V–Bar Deadlift PRE–TEST 11-14-2023

...

Here are the results:

  •  2½” V–Bar 255lb - Decent Lift
  •  2½” V–Bar 277lb - Broke Ground
  ....

Actually measured my "2½” V–Bar" because I thought it was a little larger than that...

Turns out it is nearly 2 ¾"!  Now I don't feel quite as bad about missing 277lb.  🫠

COMBO: Gods of Grip Baby Inch Dumbbell and Two 50lb Scale Weights (245.8lb Total) 11-25-2023

Last day of 52 and tried a few stretch goals to close out with a bang.

This was the closest I got to actually achieving any before I turn 53.

Full lock out (and other grip goals) will have to wait for another day.

Musical Inspiration: "I'm So Sick" by Flyleaf from the album "Flyleaf" released in October 2005.

Fun Fact:  I first heard this song while watching "Live Free or Die Hard" (released as "Die Hard 4.0" outside North America).

Thanks John!  I think my posterior chain is still a limiting factor.  Need to ramp up the full body and "leg day" exercises in 2024...

Yes, don’t forget leg day.

Yeah...for the last couple of years...nearly every day (that I worked out) was grip day.  I need more balance...

POV 2” Rope, Unruly Sled, and 4 x 45s 11-26-2023

Light birthday workout just for the fun of it.

Kids got me a Smashing Pumpkins shirt for my birthday, so I went all in on the mid 90s look...

...with credit to Dave Tate for inspiring the sleeveless EliteFTS flannel.

Musical Inspiration: "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" by  the Smashing Pumpkins from the album "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" released in October 1995.

Scale Weight Push Press = BAD IDEA 11-28-2023

Trying to put a fresh spin on leg day because (a) I'd rather be doing other exercises I enjoy but (b) I really need to do lower body work to bring my numbers up.

Turns out scale weights were not the answer.  60lb of scale weights and a 60lb weight vest are a bit unwieldy.

Not the most comfortable or natural movement either...plus there's the risk of dropping a 30lb weight on my head.

Musical Inspiration:  "Balls to the Wall" by Accept from the album "Balls to the Wall" released in December 1983.

Hey Doug very impressive , that looked tough, we watched it a couple times. I don't think we will attempt this lift any time soon.

Thanks John.

Yeah...it seemed like a good idea right up until the first rep.

  • Getting into position was fine, but when I started moving the instability was more than I anticipated.
  • Plus after the first couple of reps, my thumb webbing started complaining about the corners of the scale weight, which was unexpected.

I think I'll stick with dumbbells for push press or kettlebells for goblet squat going forward.  🤔

Not grip related, but it took every ounce of willpower to order grilled nuggets and a fruit cup from Chick-Fil-A instead of my usual deluxe sandwich (with bacon) and waffle fries.  Oh...and diet dr pepper instead of coke (or the occasional oreo shake).

Baby steps on the path to wellness.  hahaha

if it makes you feel better. Yesterday  I had a chicken finger sub and pizza for lunch. After work i had two more slices of pizza 4 beers and 2 cheeseburgers.

I've actually been trying to eat better but its hard sometimes.

Agree it's hard sometimes...  I'll be good for a while (limiting beers and avoiding triple cheeseburgers) but it's easy to backslide into bad habits.  Hopefully it will get easier.

In actual grip news...my Black Friday purchase of 2 7/8" Vertical Cannons from Arm Assassin Strength Shop arrived today.

Wrapped so well, I "cheated" and used a little knife to help open them...  😇

They look stellar and now I can't wait to do a retest on my v-bar deadlifts.  Thanks @Lucasraymond!
