Thought i would make a run at 225 for reps. Felt great. New PR

barX20

95X10

135X10

225X10 (PR) This was fairly easy. Might have had 11 in me but wanted to save something for SCT work.

SCT Bench: Did these a bit different. Since i only had 310 lbs and that's all my bench is rated for, I had my wife help me get it into position and then push down hard on the bar. Had her push down on my hands afterward as hard as she was pushing. Probably added 40 or 50 lbs. Next time I might have her lean on it. :laugh

1 set X 15 Seconds

I looked up 10X225 on the 1 rep max calculator and it says I should be doing about 300 for a max. Why on earth could I not push 280 the other day? I felt really good today, but my max should be way more than 275. Even on a weak day.

Two other points:

1. Goody, I used the elbow correction and had absolutely no pain. Felt great! That might have helped the strength a bit too i guess.

2. 15 more reps and I'm ready for the combine. Anybody know if the NFL needs a 42 year old linebacker? :laugh

Just get that 40 time down to 4.5 and you should be good to go

I was under the impression that 25 reps is on the low end for NFL recruits, at least abstracting out the weakling QB's, kickers, etc.

I might be slow, but I make up for it by not being able to jump very high. :blink

Sure, rub it in Rex. Slow and weak. Don't forget to call me old. :dry

25 reps with 225lbs on the bench puts you with the upper level linebackers tested out at this year's combine. Hell...the best linebackers got it for 30 reps.

MIKE - I'm glad the elbow correction helped you out, bro.

I'm stronger than 2 WR, 4 corners, and a kicker! Sign me up! HAHAHAHAHA

Started a new workout that should have me blowing through my bench goal on Thursday of week 9. Here is the bench portion of it. I've never actually used a program. I have always just done what felt right that day. So trying something new, and the fact that somebody I have a lot of respect for designed this for me, has got me very excited. The whole concept of going back in weight a bit to work past my current max and hit a goal has me feeling a bit funny, but like I said, I have confidence this is going to work. So I'm going to follow it pound for pound and rep for rep with no deviation. Plus, it really hammers home what everybody was telling me. I was training for rep strength, not max strength. The rest of today's workout is on my log.

Bench: All reps except first two warmup sets were performed with ultra strict form, a pause at the bottom, and an explosive press -

Warmup:

BarX20

95X5

135X2

155X2

175X2

190X2

205X2

Work sets:

215X2

190X4

Day 2 of the Bench plan Mr. Sorin designed for me. Full workout and notes are on my log. Goal is 300Lb on Thursday of week 9. This is Thursday of week 1. Here is the bench portion:

Flat Bench Press:

Warmups:

barX20

95X10

135X3

185X1 (this may be too big of a jump - where my brachialis started hurting a bit)

195X1

205X1

215X1 (this went up so fast I actually had to grab it tight at the top because it felt like it would have flown out of my hands. Very different from my old slow reps)

Work sets:

240X1 (This was supposed to be 230X1. When I pressed it, it felt heavier than it should, I forgot to take off the 5 from each side)

195X4

Incline press (Richard stressed to me today to use a full range of motion if i can on seated and incline press. These were paused reps all the way down to my upper chest, with explosive press:

175X6 (Judging from my energy level, I felt this was a bit heavy so i lowered for last 3 sets)

165X6

165X6

165X6 (Good thing I lowered it )
