barbe705
10 25 08 saturday was supposed to do pinch today but was really gassed. this wevening when we were watching tv I did my grippers though. left hand 10x1 RB300. I'm still not close to getting it but, the fight is a lot more comfortable and I can hold it "not closed" longer. right 4 attempts on the RB330. did not close. closed it enough to get it out of the choker though. progress. I've noticed that all of the hammer work is taking a lot out of my grippers. Hopefully when I take some time off for gripmas I'll get rested up and close something big. Or at least big for me. had a thought last night. I don't know if I ever oiled the RB's when I got them. I plan to do that today. I'm not sure what difference that will make in a choked gripper. I still think the 1's are easier. the wrists were very sore from saturday. I think that it's a good thing I have to skip the gym Monday and Tuesday. Paul Knight
Brent, didn't realize you had a log! I read through it and it looks like you've had some good gains on your 2HP - I may have hope after all What did you pull on the Euro at GGC as your warm-up? I forgot. barbe705
I pulled 206. I still have nightmares about that. I think I've added about 15 pounds since then. but, I use plates not a pinch device so, we'll see how it translates. I started training pinch 2x a week and it started to come up. Just write up a plan and stick to it. I thought I was addressing things until I started writing them down. looking at it on paper makes you realize that your skipping some things. I really think the logs are a good idea. plus you can get feedback from others which is really important to me since I train alone. I tried to do some plates curls tonight and it sucked. my wrist needs so much work. I did manage to pull 265 one hand deadlift with both hands though. I may have to finally start a training log - seems like a good idea to record progress to figure out any probs w/frequency and what-not thanks Brent
barbe705
for 2hp I use 2 45's I have that have a nice bevel on them. they still cut me up a little but, it used to be really bad. I use the 2 wide 35's with a pipe for some progressive block weight training. that way I can micro load a block weight of a constant width. I didn't stick with it though. I seem to get more out of regular block weights. but, like I said, i didn't really stick with that. I've also started doing some pinch work with my 2 old yorks. they're super huge and super beveled. they also have a funky texture. i think I'm going to start using them a lot more. for a while at least. they're the old deep dish type. they feel completely different than a normal plate. they fell... hollow? I like them. I can't say enough good things about having a log online. at the very least you need to record everything in a notebook. barbe705
When I do hammer rotations I use a 2" piece of black pipe with an end cap and collar. It's 24" long. Since it;s thick it taxes the grip more. and, since I can't go heavy on those taxes the grip more is okay. I also do them seated with my arm resting on my leg and only my wrist moving. barbe705
thanksgiving block weights 45# 3x1 +5 2x1 +10 2x1 +5 2x1 took a diamond dc0 to 180 degress. bent a 14" piece of 3/8 square into a "u" and then hearted it. the legs were way off center. it was almost all one leg. "u"ed a 46" 3/4 hr round to 8" had a go at a 42" 3/4 HR round. took it to 13 inches. the 46" took about 2 minutes. I think that more practice with long bar would really pay off. some of the positions are really odd. more force and lest waste would result from practice. saturday dec 1st block weights 45# 3x1 +5 2x1 +10 2x1 +5 2x1 front levers 4x5 5#. using a leverage bar with a 45 degree angle at the handle. completely strict. barbe705
tuesday 12.2.08 2hp very thick plates 90x3 110x1 120x1 130x1 140x1 150x1 160x1 170 broke ground. blockweights wide 45# 2x1 +5 2x1 +10 2x1 +5 2x1 all of the block weights were with a hold at the top. the first 2 sets of +5 had about a 10sec hold. these are getting much much easier. front levers 5x5 5#. I've start using a small angled pipe for these. It's shorter than a hammer handle but, I do them with my arm resting on my leg. no swing at all. i think they're going to pay off big time. rear levers on floor 4x5 10# hammer rotations with club 5x4 played with grippers a little, nothing to report. This was the last workout before gripmas. I'll still be doing something on my scheduled grip days. the plan is to follow my plan but, super super light. follow it up with some soft tissue work and a contrast bath. hopefully that will leave me ready for the big comp. messed around with the block weights a little. front levers 5x5 8# still need to get stricter before I move up weight. rear levers 5x5 14.5# lots of swing at the new weight. rotations with club(5#) hard, no need to go up weight yet. slim levers off and on for the rest of the night. barbe705
Post gripmas report I was happy over all with my results. the grippers showed that I've been wasting time on them 2x a week(I hate grippers) the one hand deadlift went exactly like I thought it would. I couldn't really get the feel for the event and it showed. the 2hp didn't go as well as I wanted but, it did go like I expected. About 6 weeks out my numbers started to go down. I think I allowed my training to stagnate. hopefully I'll be able to keep from doing that again. if the comp had been 6-8 weeks ago I think I would have been good for 220. I think that there was a degree of mental unfocus as well. but, that has has improved by leaps and bounds. the weaver stick I made a mistake. I trained mostly with hammers for the event. I need to do more lift specific practice. I know I could have done a lot more if I had practiced the actual lift more. it was the MGC hammer lever all over again. medley. for some reason I seem to be good at the medley. go figure. While I did get a couple of the items i missed afterwards it wasn't easy. I think that my real weakness here was a lack of prepping the area and a lack of conditioning. When I got home my gymboss interval timer was there waiting for me. so I'll be hitting the intervals shortly. thursday night it all starts up again. barbe705
12.18.08 thursday first workout post gripmas. this next couple of months are an attempt to shock my pinch into shape and improve my wrist strength. block weight deadlifts 45#x1 +5x2 +10x4 +5x3 the final +5's were really easy but, I couldn't have done anymore +10 work. block weight with only ring and pinky 37.5x1 40+5x1 45#x3 thick TTK 3x10 10, 12.5, 12.5. left hand had trouble finishing the sets. right hand was fine. may go up to 15 next workout. MMS grippers 10x1 BBSM. holy cow did this suck. towards the end they weren't even closes. I don't know if it was all the block weight work or if I'm still tired from Gripmas. It could be that I've only done choked work for quite a while and my set is way off. my big gripper night I do grippers first. I guess I'll see how that goes.
