Thanks! Its on this harder steel where I'm really learning how to hit harder. Its like i start with my arms and chest but it wont budge until i get my lats involved. Its just a lot of muscle to activate all at once. So thats what I'll be focusing on, activating every muscle i can at the same time to hit harder sooner. Just rewatched the recording and my first hit on the 6.5x9/32 bar was 9 seconds and it didn't even move until after 7 seconds lol. That was the first bend where i really felt my lats engage before it started moving.

Sounds like some isos might be beneficial

Bending today.

Some progress today but no new completed bends. I attempted to record a 6.5" x 9/32" cert bar DO from ECGB. At 5 minutes I was 3/8" away from finishing but the bar left the frame so many times without me realizing it, It would have been a fail anyway. I learned a lot though. Drill rod is a humbling experience, my crush needs so much work. Bent my first grade 5 bolt today also, but was out of gas around 90°. I'll save that bolt to work on crush another day. The IM yellow and 60d were the easiest they have been today, slow but steady progress there.

All DO

6 timber ties

1 ECGB 6.5" x 9/32" failed by 3/8"

1 IM yellow nail

1 60d bright

1 grade 5 bolt 6" × 1/4" failed by a lot

I want to keep going today but the elbows say to stop.

Great work. You will get that DR next time if you're fresh. Btw the 9/32" DR is a very good practice bend for the 5/16" CRS. If you can put down like 4-5 in a workout, I think you're ready for a IM red nail (not the cert) or the Horrido A2/BSC Moose certs (although the Moose is somewhat harder than the others).

Thanks for the feedback and encouragement. A few weeks ago i told myself i wasn't going to buy a lot of steel and just stick to nails because they were so much cheaper. I guess I lied lol. I have so much steel in the mail right now. An assortment of bolts from Horrido, Bars and bolts from BSC, 5/16" O1, crs, and ss from ECGB, and blue and red nails from iron mind. I'll have a lot to work towards and a lot of variety to play with. This should keep me busy for a long time.

Blobs today.

Took a while to warm up. Plenty of successful lifts with the half 75 and a few on the half 85 with my right hand. Left hand felt mostly strong on the half 75 today. I didn't really track anything today, i just lift until i couldn't anymore. Tried lifting the half 85 and half 75 at the same time with no success as well as transfers with the half 65, but it was fun trying.  Hands are sore from bending yesterday which probably effected today. Adjusting the workout schedule to spread things out a little better.

Video of nothing special, mostly the fun but failed attempts.

Bending 2 days ago.

Forgot to post this. I had somewhere to be right after my workout. I didn't really plan this out, but I felt good and decided to attempt the ECGB 9/32"x6.5" cert bar again. I got it down to 1/16" inside of 2 inches in 3 minutes, so a success. Crush is brutal on these things for me. Just waiting to hear back from Devin to see if everything is clear in the vid. Either way, I'll do another on Monday or Tuesday. Behind that I bent a 1/4"x6" drill rod and 2 IM yellow nails.

And the bend was accepted! I go by my middle name, Mitch. So it's listed under Mitch Jones. I don't know what I was thinking when I signed up for grip board under my first name.

Out of excitement, I celebrated with 2 more bends. Another 9/32x6.5 cert bar, and attempted a grade 5 bolt again. Bolt was a finally a success after several attempts over the last few weeks. Today has been a good day.

Pushed my back too hard too soon and aggravated the injury I had a few weeks ago. So I haven't really trained anything to let it rest. Tonight I felt pretty good although I likely still have a few weeks of recovery left to feel normal again. Since I felt ok tonight I tried some bending. I bent one grade 5 bolt 1/4x6" DO and was too gassed out to bend a second, although i was able to kink it half way. I'm having a lot of trouble putting even a kink in anything as thick as 5/16" even if it rates lower than thinner bars. I'm not sure why that is. I'm going to just focus on increasing the number of bars i bend per session and only bending bars that i know i can bend, Maybe that will be best for a while. I have about 110-120 grade 5 bolts to work on.

Now that I'm all worked up and adrenaline pumping, its time for bed lol.

Bending today.

Since injuring my back again, I slowed down a lot in grip training. I did some blob lifting about a week ago, and bend a few bars here and there. I had to take about 5 days off from everything from my hands feeling bruise and pain shooting from my palms up the ulnar side of my fore arm. All healed up now. Focusing on higher volume of somewhat easy steel to develope hand toughness, finishing up with a harder piece of steel. Today I was able to bend my first 5/16" diameter steel. The kink to me is a completely different animal compared to higher rated but smaller diameter steel, don't know why.

All DO.

Bent 10 60d bright nails in cordura

Bent 1 Horrido 4.8 bolt in cordura

Bent 1 Horrido A4 bolt started in cordura. Added a horrido pad for the sweep because my hands hurt to much at that point to keep pushing in cordura alone. Failed close to the end of the sweep, no gas left. I'll finish the sweep and crush next workout when I'm fresh.

Bending today... again.

I felt pretty recovered today, so decided to bend. Warmed up on a IM blue nail and tried a Horrido A2 bolt. To my suprise, I felt it start to kink and just leaned into it. I'm glad I recorded this one. Video (below) submitted to Jan as a cert attempt. I tried to bend an IM red nail after and only got a slight bend in it. Followed by 5 60d brights to help condition hands. Left shoulder started not feeling right, so I stopped. Happy day.

Long video, but bend starts at 4:20. A2 bolt in IM pads and Horrido pads.

60d all cordura.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've been dabbling in a little grip stuff here and there the past week. Waiting on my left thumb pad to heal up. I can bend 60d brights and IM blue nails with minimal pain, anything rated 400+ hurts quite a bit. It's certainly better than a week ago. Hopefully another week or two it will be 100%.

I bought some 5/16" HRS for something new to try. It feels hard. 7" hurt my hand and I have no idea what it rates. I thought it would be easier than crs, ss, O-1. I also bought a bunch of 9/32 O-1 I may cut mostly to 7" to get some volume. I should be able to get several of those bent per session.

Can't wait to give these bars a proper try when I'm healed up. HRS is cut to 6, 7, 7.5, and 8". 4 pieces of each.

Should get 25 pieces of 7" O-1. But I might cut one piece at 6" for fun later.

Bending and grippers today.

I did chest and back at the gym today. Never been a very strong person, but today I hit a new pr on bench press. My max has been 195 for over a decade. Today I hit 205 easy, then 215 for a challenging rep with a little more in the tank. Pleasantly suprised. Bending probably wasn't the best choice today but I just practiced my kink. I'll finish them when my chest is recovered. Thumb pad slightly better, still not quite 100%

DO in IMP and horrido pads, 2 hits each. 4 pieces of 9/32"x7" O-1

5 iso hits on a red nail

Grippers Right hand only

Warm up 35rgc x20

CCS

64rgc x1, 75rgc x1, 85rgc x1, 96rgc x1, 102rgc miss

79rgc 1 set 7 reps

78rgc filed 1 set 10 reps, deep set

Cool down 64rgc x10, 35rgc x20

Bending today.

Went well. Higher volume of harder bars/Bolts. Finished off the 4 pieces of 9/32x7 O1 that I kinked a few days ago. Removed some skin from my fingers attempting a piece of 5/16x7 O1 from ECGB, but no blood lol. Fun session.

All DO

Warmup - IM blue in IMP

2x horrido A2 8mm x 180mm bolts in doubles

1x horrido A4 8mm x 180mm bolt in doubles

1x ECGB 5/16x7" O1 cert bar in doubles - Failed on kink

4x O1 drill rod 9/32x7 pre-kinked from last workout, 3 in doubles, 1 in single cordura

Grippers, blobs, bending, today.

Grippers Right hand only, felt good and made progress on the rep gripper, i'll go up to 85rgc next week. Pinch felt weak today. I was going to bend Saturday, but bent a few bars/bolts today.

Grippers RH

All ccs

35rgc x10, 64rgc x5, 75rgc x5, 85rgc x3, 96rgc x1, 79rgc x9

Cool down 64rgc x15 mms

Blobs

Half 75, 4 lifts each hand. Few lifts slipped out

Bending

All DO in doubles - IMP and horrido pads

Horrido A4 5/16x7

O1 dr 9/32x6 - crush was brutal on this

G8 1/4x6 bolt - haven't tried to bend one of these in a while, I've never been able to budge one. Got it bent pretty good this time, but ran out of gas on the crush, very springy.

Still sore from chest and back at the gym yesterday, probably should have waited until Saturday to bend. Fun day.

Great work man. You can see from the bend radius that that's one mean G8.

I went to bend a few bolts and ended up punching myself in the jaw pretty hard when a 5/16x7" grade 2 bolt snapped at the threads. After that I just bent a horrido A4 and a 1/4x6" grade 5. After a few days rest, maybe friday, I'm going to try a horrido A2 at 6".

With hardened bolts, this can be an even bigger problem (more dangerous). I recommend wrapping the thread side deeper.
