Electron
11/20: Axle and Plate Pinch Axle- walked up to the loaded axle, cold, and wanted to see if my base strength for it has gone up. It has. 225x1, 225x1 Reverse ladder: deloading was the only rest between reps. 225, 215, 195, 175, 155x2, 85 clean. Note: 225 used to be my max. It's also my NAGS class record. Being able to do 3 singles without a warm up is good stuff. Pinch Thin 35s LH-AIR! RH-66lbs LH-big air! RH-67lbs -time to bust out the camera- 1st attempt: LH-lockout! 2nd attempt: RH-lockout! LH-lockout and 5s hold! Been training for these a while, finally got the lifts. 1st NAGS qualifier for 2014. Electron
11/24: Pinch Yesterday, did 30 block set reps on my #2(105) throughout the day. Got 6 consecutive reps both hands, which is a PR. Pinch 1/2Blob- tosses as warm up. Poly40 R-5#, L-4# R-4#, L-1# R-3#, L-Air 2x35 R-9#, L-4# R-5#, L-0#(no air though) Notes I am qualifying for the 2014 Nats through 74k qualifying lifts. That's the crowd I want to compete against and outdo. Brian Burgos, Michael Hann, Light Milfeld, and especially Sakson Alex, who could've weighed in at 66k but ended up destroying the 74k. By 12/1, I want to be able to do 45 reps on BW axle. I have a week to prepare, and I'll see how I do. By 12/11, I'll max on conventional olympic DLs and see where I'm at. I'd like to hit 300. Electron
12/3: Axle max reps at BW This is the challenge I've been preparing for. Weighed in at exactly 125. 125x30 Notes: This is better than my other attempts, and I put the bar back down after reps (something that I don't do usually, as I lift on thin concrete on the 3rd floor). This drained me more than it helped me, I think. Had to hold onto the bar on the down movement to keep my floor intact. My form broke down after the first 10 reps, because my legs were feeling very weak. Did lots of lifting with my back to compensate. My grip was still good at this point, but the rest of my body had gone. Tried to go for more by switching to sumo, but hitched too much on the 31st rep, so stopped. Mephistopholes
Nice dude! 30 reps dead lifting is brutal, anyway you cut it. Wonder how many you'd be able to do if you did a partial deadlift, like from the knees? Seems like that would make it so the grip would give out before everything else... Maybe a hold would be better for this purpose? Since I can do a 30 second hold after max deadlifts, I'm thinking anywhere up to a minute with 130 on the bar. This is good stuff to try out. Electron
12/5: Pinch and AW Garrett and Michael came over. Had an inpromptu pinch comp using my 2x35s as a 2HP. Rising bar: 86# 106# 126# 136# -I think Garrett ended here. 146# -total control. 151# -Air but no lift 161# -I think Mike ended up here. 1HP-2x35s both hands Note: spun out in my hands. I strongly feel that this was happening because of two hands pinching first. The supinating tension that gives me a bit more power there was residual here, ruining my holds. At least I got the plates off the ground easy. 2HP- Bodyweight for reps. 126x5, 2 more reps got air. Got two nasty thumb tears and had to stop... Grip was still solid though. Next time, I'll try before doing heavy pinch work.
Electron
12/11: BW Pinch for reps Tried again and hit 10 reps. Video was taken but it cut off at my 8th rep. After my first set, went back and did 3 more reps. 12/13: BW Military Bench Just to see how I'd do if I post in Juha's online challenges. Got 8 reps. I haven't benched in a really long time.

I'll work on 54 and 58mm and train the strongef one.

Electron
Update. I've stopped barbell lifts for the time being, in favor of a sandbag that I made and loaded to 110. For this month I'll shoulder and carry this bag around, progressively adding weight, for many reps every day. This feels to be a great way to get my base up. My goal in this is to be able to manhandle 175lbs, and to make my legs and back stronger. Pinch is being trained twice a week still. Haven't maxed lately but will learn a bit more about the 2HP lift and am trying many things. Width... tilt... hand spacing and supination. After seeing a tidbit of information yesterday suggesting that fingers prune in water because of an evolutionary response to improve grip underwater, I tried and saw how pinching with pruned fingers felt. Did bodyweight pinch for reps, and noticed that my fingertips slipped more becaus of pruning. Hit 10 reps which usually would be easier. I did notice more things though, about grasping rust with the tips of my fingers and where the pressure was present in my hands. I'll see how I improve in this lift over time. Mephistopholes
On that note: bearhugging the sandbag from the ground and lifting it to lockout is a great workout for the lower back and the lats obviously, but also really great for the biceps. I've been doing a lot of those lately...
Electron
Bobby, curious what kind of weight you're handling with various sandbag movements. I've been messing with the bag every day and my 50k bag is going to my shoulder in 1 or 2 movements now, instead of 3 or 4 like when I began. Also clean and pressed a 40k bag. I'll add some more weight at the end of this week.
Mephistopholes
I've never really pushed the sandbag too much, partly for concern of spilling it, and partly because I have other things to lift that I just kind of default to (log, keg, farmers handles). but, the sandbag is quite a bit of fun at times. I just keep one loaded to 150lbs, which isn't super heavy, but still makes for a good hard workout if you do it right. My favorite thing, as suggested above, is to bearhug it and lift it to lock out, sometimes also carrying it that way. I read the biography of the mighty atom a while back , and it mentioned how he worked on the shipping docks at one point early on, loading or unloading huge bags of beans to/from ships, and he would bearhug them and carry them across the dock. During this period of his life, he got into a wrestling match with a professional fighter (a boxer, I think) and after it was over the guy said that the atom had this incredible strength to squeeze somebody with, and he asked him what he did to get that strength, and his reply was "beans." Anyway, I think bear hugging the sand bag is a similar exercise, which could produce similar results.

Electron
1/21 Filled up my sandbag to 60k, it defeated me. Got it to shoulder height and it threw me off balance. Also, planned on doing 2HP in preperation for the AZ comp. Then my cat got her collar stuck between her jaws and I had to restrain her and take it off. Bloody hands, so will have to heal up first. Electron
1/22 Planning out the next two months in grip work and looking forward to AZ. Will need a week or so before any 2HP or grippers for my left hand... don't want any blood on my toys. 60k sandbag can now be shouldered in 3 or 4 movements. I learned to squat and catch it so it doesn't flip me over.
