Magnus
Frank, When you do your hammer curls, you are using a tricep bar right? Do you ever incorporate individual dumbbells when doing them? The reason I ask is I have a nagging sore left wrist and hammer curls are the only bicep work I can do free of pain right now... These are all using DBs now, so that's an 80 in each hand. I haven't used a tricep bar for them in a while. IMO, if I had to pick just one type of curl, it would be the hammer, because it incorporates the inner, outer and brachialis pretty evenly. So if that's all you can do, you should still be fine. Friday, 1/14/11 Boom! Benchpress: 135 x 10 135 x 10 135 x 10 225 x 6 275 x 2 295 x 1 315 x 1 325 x 1 350 x 1 - PR! 355 x 0 (it was going up fine, but the bench almost tipped backwards on me) 355 x 1 - PR! Easier than 350 went up! Added weight to the other end of the bench this time. 360 x 0 - just worn out by now. 305 x 3 225 x 14 So stoked. Previous PR was 345 @ 294lb. 355 @ 249 is a huge PR right now. Another friend of mine also hit a PR of 290 as well. He'll have 3 bills by next week. Magnus
Monday, 1/17/11 Head cold today...didn't feel like doing much volume. Close grip Benchpress: 135 x 10 135 x 10 225 x 5 275 x 2 305 x 2 315 x 1+1 forced T-bar rows: 90 x 10 180 x 10 225 x 10 270 x 10 315 x 8 Another friend came over to lift today. He never did T-bar rows before and wanted to give them a try. He ended up doing 270 x 10. Not too bloody bad for his first time. Magnus
Saturday, 1/29/11 Benchpress: 135 x 10 135 x 10 225 x 5 275 x 3 305 x 1 315 x 1 335 x 1 355 x 1 365 x 1 - PR! 305 x 4 305 x 3 225 x 12 - close grip Very happy with that. Haven't benched really since the 17th, and I had a head cold all week on top of it, so I would've been happy if I could still do 345 let alone 365. Gonna attempt 375 next week. I've also been taking Powerfull, and I'm pleased with the results of that. Barbell rows: Taking it easy on these. I hurt my lower back pretty badly at work last week, so I'm being careful with back work for now. Light weight/high reps for now. 135 x 20 225 x 20 225 x 20 225 x 20 1-arm barbell rows: Just messing around. Felt pretty easy. 185 x 3 Edited January 29, 2011 by Magnus
Adam Moyers
How is everything going Frank? I hope all is well. Are you still planning on certing the #3 and possibly the #3.5 before you turn 20?
Magnus
How is everything going Frank? I hope all is well. Are you still planning on certing the #3 and possibly the #3.5 before you turn 20? What's up Adam! Nah, lost interest is grippers pretty much. I can still slam my #3.5, but they've been collecting a lot of dust lately. Now that I'm working 40+ hours a week a night shift, the only thing I really care about fitting in is my regular lifting. That, on the other hand, has been going really well, with exception to the fact that I blew my back out a few weeks ago. But apart from that, bench has been doing great. Lost a good 40lb of bodyfat too. Got on a good supplement routine and it's been working out great.
Adam Moyers
Work can do that sometimes. Sorry to hear about the back, I hope it heals up quick. Good job on the fat loss man! I think your last PR posted was 365 on bench right? Is it higher now? I've finally got in a good routine for grip and bending. I'm also training for my first strongman competition on April 30th. Magnus
It's still hovering around there, but I'm trying to hit 405 by the end of May. Within the next week I'll be adding Kre-alkalyn and Scivation Xtend to my current Jack3d/Powerfull/B12/proteins and gainers stack. Hopefully that gets the ball rolling again. Fortunately, my back seems to be feeling 100%, but I'm easing back into the heavy back stuff very slowly just to be safe. Good luck on the strongman comp! That's something I'd definitely like to get into eventually. Edited March 23, 2011 by Magnus

lifesnotfair
Hey Magnus, Nice to hear about the fat loss while keeping strength, awesome! May I ask what's up with all those Bench sets? Was that on purpose or do you really think those are good warm-ups for your working sets? I mean... before even hitting 300 pounds your total volume lifted is inmense. If your goal is volume then I can understand, since you did a bunch of heavy singles... I wonder why would you tax yourself with all that volume before the singles? I know for such a strong guy like you the sets at 135 and 225 will feel "easy" and you'll think you're doing no harm by doing that before the heavy singles. But believe me you're taxing yourself even if you didn't feel it. If you got 365 with all that volume prior to it... I'm sure you'd have gotten more had you warmed up correctly. But again, if you're doing a lot of volume on purpose then I take all this back! You're strong! Glad to see you logging things again. Magnus
The 225 x 12 (which was way easy) was because my buddy repped out on 225 and got 10, so that was just me being a tool I stopped at 12 just for the sake of not fatiguing myself. Ordinarily, my warm-up always goes like this: 135 x 2-3 x 10 (really just to get loosened up) 225 x 3-5 275 x 3 ...and then I move on to the heavier stuff. Magnus
I've been doing everything else besides bench, but I've forgotten to post it. Hitting deads again after the bulging disc issue. Starting at lighter weights to take it easy for now, but I'm going to attempt to add 10lb a week. Last workout I worked up to an easy 417. Nothing to write home about, but considering I've gone through an injury and haven't done any off the floor work for months, I won't complain. Pull-ups are also getting considerably stronger.
