barbe705
8/ 24/13 grippers and tga pinch. pinch was terrible. grippers went well. closed my 159# mm replica for several singles. my 166 elite felt like a brick though. scrapped it after pinch. might have been humidity, might have been all the running around the day before. either way. barbe705
another note. i have cut most thick bar out of my gym work. except for axle on squat day. the hope is my hands will be fresher for the full grip sessions. seemed to work with last sundays grippers but not pinch. tues and wed were back to back and had rack pulls DO. so, hoping that with some time the added freshness will help things trend up going forward. The 159 i hit was joshes. wanted to make sure that my 159 wasn't rated wrong since i have no idea who rated it or when. I don't keep very good track of those things. barbe705
9/7/14 crappy session. grippers were off. thumbs were still cut up from wed. did some 1hp holds and 2hp holds. inch db lifts were hard but got reps in. not sure what the deal was. did solve the reason my thumbs got so cut up though. 2hp got turned around and I only beveled the one side. whoops. barbe705
attended the griptogether at chris rice's. had my notebook out the whole time and managed to take about 3 notes. worked up on 2hp at 64mm to 232 about half way. started over at 58 and worked up again to 242 with 247 breaking the ground. played around with some thick DB and and small items for a bunch of attempts to help chris plot out the medley. did some squats and pressing with josh and nick. no idea what i did for squats or pressing. long day. sunday i wasn't good for anything. it has gotten me super excited to train again this wed.

barbe705
9/21/14 pretty low vol sunday. after my thumb got inflamed doing a bunch of inch pulls I've been trying to hold back a little bit. CBT grippers 20mm week 2 day1. (skipped the intro section since i have already been training for a while) 2hp 58mm 50x3/100x2/150x2/170/190/200/220 5x1. these went insanely well. pulled easy and pretty quickly between reps. will try to bump 5 pounds for a couple sundays and see if I can still hit 5x1. 2hp holds 170 3x10 sec. at the new width this was really easy as well. will be bumping the weight up. 2" v-bar 50/100/150/200/225 break/225 1/2 way. all lifts both hands. rice hub 30/35/40/42.5/45 break thin hub 10/15/20/22.5/25/27.5/30 30# both hands might be a PR. need to start a reocrds board for basement. too hard to keep track flipping back through notes. barbe705
thanks jon. been trying to stay focused on some goals and train rather than test. not always easy to do. 9/24/14 CBGT 2.2. bumped the percentages on the grippers a bit. I think that for the first month I'll still be feeling my way around a bit to get the right %. but, since there aren't grippers at KK and gripmas has Silver bullet hold I don't really need to be at my peak for a while. building a wide base hopefully. IM holds with 35# blob ss/w RP 32.5# blob holds. 5 sets. so hard inch trainer 135# SSw/ rev climber curl 12.5#x10. 5 sets goose neck hold 90#/front lifts 6# @ 15"x5/rear levers 6# @ end. 5 sets
barbe705
9/28/14 grippers and 2hp. stopped things early, seems like i tweaked something in my left middle finger. feels better today but, still there.
barbe705
10/1/14 CBGT 3.2. was wprried about tweaked finger on these. after warm up i didn't feel it at all and proceeded as normal. IM holds with 35# blob ss/w RP 32.5# blob holds. 5 sets. the RP sets are brutal and no where near ready to bump up. even thinking about dropping down a block. inch trainer 135# SSw/ rev climber curl 12.5#x10. 5 sets. last 2 sets of inch i bumped to 140#. goose neck hold 90#/front lifts 6# @ 15"x5/rear levers 6# @ end. 5 sets
jvance
Brent, forgive my apparent ignorance... Unsure of the above terminology: "IM holds with 35# blob ss/w RP"... ??
barbe705
no problem Jon. it's block weight holds supere setted with block weight holds. the first is index middle the second is ring pinky. for the ring pinky i try to not use the off fingers to rotate the block into better position. makes it a lot harder for me, really hits those 2 fingers and that side of the palm. if i use my IM on the RP sets i can do a much bigger block more easily. i go 10sec IM left, 10sec IM right, 10 sec RP left, 10 sec RP right. since I run it all together like that it also hits the thumb pretty hard as well. in fact, i feel it more in my thumb the next day than i do on my 2hp days. and i usually hit a good bit of thumbs stuff on 2hp days. jvance
Oh ok thanks Brent, sounds like a great way to target specific areas of the hand.
barbe705
Oh ok thanks Brent, sounds like a great way to target specific areas of the hand. i wish i could say who but.... someone mentioned that someone else had used RP block weights to help their gripper closes. I really liked this idea because i think it makes sense. it's also easy on my skin(big issue for me with grippers). and, it seems like it should have carry over to pinch and thick bar. barbe705
10/5/14 spent several hours painting in the morning so, didn't get too much done. also cleaned the dogs teeth, which is brutally hard. CBGT 4.1. i guess this is my deload week. it took a minute for me to adjust the percentages to where i needed them to be and it took me a second to get used to training like this but I think it's working. it seems like the lower % work along with the variation is challenging but not wiping me out like I was before. looking forward to testing in a bit. 1HP 50 3x1, 60/70/80/90M 85 3x1. at least today left hand was stronger on 1HP. all 85# lifts were good lefty and 1/2 way right. Normally i don't do 1HP 2 weeks in a row but, I will be repeating this to see if it was a fluke. also all weights are 8# heavier. empty set up weighs 58 but i call it 50 to keep bookkeeping easier. 64k inch bell. several attempts both hands. some lifts, some misses, some really crappy lifts. so, thanks to Josh for loaning me this until his work calms down. barbe705
10/7/14 4.2 CBGT. deload, no grippers. blob holds 10 sec 35# IM, 32.5# RP 5 sets inch trainer 135 1 lift 64k inch db 10x1 on edge flats facing me. ss/w reverse climber curl 12.5# 5x10 goose hold/hammer complex 5 sets. goose to 100# and levers to 7 reps each. barbe705
10/12/14 CBGT 5.1 no problems. still feel like things might be a bit too easy but, I'm pushing some other things hard so I'm not worried about it. we'll see what happens when I test and make some decisions for the next cycle based on that. 2hp 54mm 50x3/100/150/170/190/200/210 2x1, 215 2x1. this is even narrower than my new pinch width. felt ok but I was weaker. got some work in at a different width anyway. I'm trying to use different widths more often and see what happens. still not sure if I'll wave widths, alt weeks, or what. 2" vbar 50/100/150/200/215 3x1 ssw ext holds. inch trainer 135# 1 each hand 64k bell on side flats away 3x1, flats toward me 2x1. flats away is much harder due to the deformation of handle. rev rail tie and 2 60d nails. Tom Scibelli
Brent, how does the 64kg bell compare to the gracie bell--have you tried that one before?
barbe705
gracie bell has a perfectly round bare metal handle. it's actually round stock welded in. the 64k has some shape to it. it also has a bit of grain from the sand casting and the paint is kind of waxy. I would say they're very close if you hold the 64k bell the easy way. over the top the handle feels a bit wider and i haven't worked on that lift yet.
barbe705
10/15/14 CBGT week 5.2. went well. I'll be happy to get through and test and start over. I haven't had any problems getting all the reps in which makes me think I might still be using too low of a gripper. on the other hand, it's not easy. wait and see, only a couple more weeks. IM holds with 35# blob ss/w RP 32.5# hex holds. 5 sets. switched from the 32.5 blob to hex. I wasn't getting the full holds in RP. unfortunately this is a pretty easy step down. may have to bump time or something.... 64k bell lifts plus rev climber curls 12.5#x10 5 sets. did 3 lifts flat sides away 6 lifts flat towards. the away lifts were partials and hard. had been painting all day so hands weren't exactly fresh. also tried some over the top lifts. did not break the ground. frustrating lift, I can feel it in my thumbs for a couple days afterwards so, I know I'm straining and getting work in. the real question is"does this carry over to any other thing?" goose neck/frontraise/rear raise. 100#/6# @15/6#@end. 10sec/7/7. goose necks were hard today. maybe the harder style bell lifts wore me out, or the painting. def be a couple weeks before I bump weight or hammer reps again. prob won't happen till after KK. but, with the deload for that I might have a bump when I come back.
