MalachiMcMullen
Deadlifts 225x5 315x5 315x5 335x5 365x1(failed the 2nd rep. All in due time) 315x5 Did a bit on the cardio machines and managed a solid dragon flag today too. Haven't done DF's in awhile and a friend wanted to know what they were. I, being terribly inconcise, decided to try and show him. It was tough, but I got it
MalachiMcMullen
I feel I should mention that my form, for whatever reason, was off today. During my last DL session, my form was great, but I didn't want to go any heavier for my knee's sake just yet. Today was the opposite situation. I wanted to go heavier and I felt I had 375-385ish in me today, but my form turned into a strong stiff-leggedish kinda deal today. Not exactly sure why, but my legs weren't doing much. I did these DL's after a 10min session on a cardio bike, but I can't imagine that would have any effect whatsoever on my performance in the DL. I barely broke a sweat on the bike. My CNS seems to be fried for the time being. School is very mentally draining at the moment and focusing elsewhere is difficult. I don't know why I lifted like shit today. I have plenty of excuses but saying all of them wont make me lift more. Edited October 28, 2009 by MalachiMcMullen
MalachiMcMullen
Had a good press day today. No one else was in the weight room, aside from the attendant. She ended up being a spot for my 245 press and the 225x5 immediatly after. Flat Bench 135x10 185x5 205x5 225x5 245x1(had 2 for sure, but I had no confidence in my spotter) 225x5 205x5 185x5 2DBOHP 60'sx5 50'sx5 40'sx5 Did a few curls and a bit of cardio. MalachiMcMullen
I'd like to add that I haven't squatted in about 2 weeks. My mom and little sister have the flu(not swine) and I don't want to risk getting sick thanks to a weakened immune system ala squats. MalachiMcMullen
Did some very minor 2HP today. Messed with 141 a bit and did probably 8-10 reps with 161ish. I used a slipped-grip for all of these.
MalachiMcMullen
Did some pressing today. My presses are coming back strong, so I'm happy about that Flat bench 135x10 Incline bench 135x5 185x3 205x3 225x1(difficult, but felt like more a groove thing than anything) 185x5 185x5 185x5 Did some OAC negatives and assissted OAC's. Getting better and better at those too.
MalachiMcMullen
Deadlifts 210x5 300x5 370x1(felt strong, good form, decent speed off the floor) 420x0(meh, I was not expecting to get this at all. I hovered it though and my form felt solid, so I'm getting back up there.) 370x0(a big attempt usually wipes the heavy lifting out of me) 350x5 "reps" and I use that term loosely. The first rep was tough, legs came up too fast and it went slow, the preceeding reps were faster, but with about 10-30 seconds between each rep. 320x5 300x6(It was on the 4th rep of this set that a woman, who had just entered the sparsely populated room, came up to me to say "You know that's very inconsiderate. All the sound you're making is distracting." It was at this point a flurry of argumentative responses flew through my mind. Why has no one complained? Oh yes, they were busy doing things and not concerning themselves with what someone across the room was doing. Why not give me a bit more time, just in case I was about done anyway? Perhaps if I had been screaming out loud and beating my chest after each rep she would've avoided me completely and gone to the front desk. Anywho, I decided to be cordial and not argue. I apologized and went on doing my thing... and laughing. Did some one arm-one leg deadlifts with some DB's. My left leg is noticeably shorter than my right, and I feel my right back far more than my left during a regular DL. After being introduced to this DL variation, I think I'll continue with them in all of my pulling workouts from now on. They hit each side of my lower back pretty specifically and they give a good hamstring/glute pump. Did some crappy levers and done.
MalachiMcMullen
Squatted today. I have been cleared for full squats, so that's exactly what I did. Back squats 135x10 205x5 245x5 275x3 275x3 275x3 245x5 245x5 Felt great to squat again. This actually wasn't a bad squat session for me. I don't feel super sore, my knee is handling everything like nothing ever happened to it, and I have improved my form over the last few months of sporadic squatting. Did some 2HP also. My hands were sticking like glue today. There was A LOT of moisture on the device that made for a pristine pinching surface. A thorough steel-wooling and a dab of chalk ensured that any drops today would be from a lack of strength. I worked up to 193-194lbs. I weighed in at 192 on the same scale, so I pulled BW+ again. I'll get that elusive 200 by Gripmas. No doubts.

MalachiMcMullen
Bench tonight. I felt really really taxed for whatever reason. I was mentally drained today. 2DBOHP strict 65'sx5 75'sx3 75'sx1(need to get back to doing these, these sets felt too heavy) Flat bench 135x10(CG) 185x5 205x5 185x5 185x5 185x5 185x5 185x5 Did a few random things and done. MalachiMcMullen
My levering has been sucking camel hooha these past few weeks. I've been trying to do these extremely strict with my body leaning forward onto my platform. With my body leaning forward, I can't tilt my head or mount the platform like Jeff did at MGC to get my head closer to the sledge head. Doing a 16 is super hard in this manner. I've been making use of Bob's way of levering, with the hammer rotated slightly in the hand, and it's been a bit easier on my thumb pad. My grippers have been absolute shite. My 2HP is going up and so too is my axle, however slowly. 2" Axle rows 120x5 200x5 singles I did some axle deads today but didn't focus on grip. Unless otherwise stated, all of the below was done with an alt grip. 290x1(DO grip and an all-time PR, but my bar is bent) 290x a handful of other DO near-misses. I got it all the way to lockout but had to set it down quick. 360x5 singles 380x2 singles(Post Op PR) 400xhover, Getting close to where I was before surgery. I could get 405 on a moderately strong day for a few singles before surgery, and I had never done heavy pulls on an axle, so this was a PR. 400x0 380x0 360x1(I switched which hand positions to see what it would feel like. That ended up turning this rep into a grinder.) 290x5 SLDL 290x5 SLDL 2HP 141x1 161x3 (No set downs) 189xhover 161x1 171x4 singles 189x possibly 1, it was dark in the shop by this time and hard to see. My brother was spotting to see if it got high enough and said it was, but I'm not so sure. It was Eaton-close. 171x3 singles
MalachiMcMullen
BTW, that possible success at 189 would've been 1lb less than BW.

You have to lower it until the handle touches the stop (without a bounce) and get it back up again. I'm not even going towards my head - I'm going off towards the shoulder a bit - it's more comfortable for me - you can of course lower towards your head if you choose. I know all that, but I figure if I train in an annoyingly strict manner, I can only be surprised come comp time + adrenaline. I've been levering to my shoulder like Bob does with the hammer tilted a bit. I actually find the whole lever a bit easier that way. Oh yeah, and I plan on pulling BW at Gripmas. I plan on either breaking 200 off the ground further than I have in training or doing a full pull. If I fail at either, I promise I'll try my hardest to keep composure!!! MalachiMcMullen
Pfew, I haven't updated this in 2 weeks. Ooopsy. The first tuesday in Dec I did another bench workout and promptly had a back spasm during a light deadlift that rendered unable to stand the next day. Thankfully, it was 100% muscle pain. I am not exactly sure what caused it, but I don't think it'll happen again. The bench was just 205x5x5 The bench for this past Tuesday was 210x5x5, did some weighted wide grip pull ups in 3's starting at +45, going to +55 and dropping down 10lbs at a time and doing triples until I got to +25 and started doing 5's. MalachiMcMullen
Feeling extremely under-motivated today.
