danegarreau
WEll i have had some time to think about the whole Ironmind deal, so here it is. Allthough i think it sucks what they did i am going to try to get certified. I still want my name with the rest of the great grip guys out there. But as of right now i am going to try to certify on the mashmonster 0, or whatever its called. I will keeep training and hopefully by the show of strength i will be able to close it with the 1'' rule. After this i will focus on certifying with ironmind. odin
#3x1 negitive, hard as crap to hold closed, only manged about 2 seconds closed. It is awesome that you can hold it closed even for a second, especially at your age! I enjoy reading your log and your reactions to how you are doing, keep it up. foggymountainmuscle
Dane, hang from a chinning bar inbtween spine compressing sets. Hold until you feel you've lost the tension. This always helps me get rid of unnecessary back pain.
danegarreau
3/19/04 Warmup BenchPress 190x5 190x5 190x5 Felt prettty good, a one rep improvement over last week. Micheal, thanks for the tip, i have been just laying on the floor, it seemed to help but i think hanging from a bar will help more.
danegarreau
I have a new picture in the gallery of a 25 pound hub lift.
foggymountainmuscle
Saw the pic, pretty cool, I hope to be able to do that with my gym's weights. Right now I can hold onto a 10 pounder with a 2 1/2 on it. Hubs kinda suck, they're short an expand out, but I have a good idea what 25lbs. feels like in the hub lift, pretty darn heavy, and it sure would feel good to take it as high as you did. Chalk than one up on the year end goal list. I'd reccomend placing a 2.5 pounder on top of your hub lift. Depending on where you let it lay, you will make the fingers or thumb work harder. Plus you're going to have to use your wrist to keep it level. Good work!

Micheal, i know what u mean about some sucky hubs. The hubs on my weights suck, but my friends are perfect, go figure.

My hands are only 7 1/2 inches, hopefully it won't be too big of a factor.
danegarreau
3/22/04 Warmup Deadlifts 365x8 PR Felt good, form was good for all 8 reps. 365x8 Felt good but he last rep was hard. 365x8 Probebly the hardest set i have ever done in my life. Felt like i ran a relay. Pullups 170x6 170x3 170x3 I was too tired to even more, but somehow i mangaed to get 3 reps. Shrugs 225x8 PR 225x8 225x8 Grip felt fine the entire series of sets. 1 hand Plate Pinch 50x1 50x1 50x1 70x0 Tried to get it but it was bolted. 70x1 Assisted with the other hand just enough to get it up. 2 hand Plate Pinch 90x1 wayy to easy 110x1 still to easy 115x1 120x1 125x1 130x1 PR Pretty hard. A very good workout. Really had to push myself mentally and physically. It was the first time i tried the 2 hand plate pinch, i think i am gonna use it as my main way of progressing my pinch grip. My new goal to be able to pinch 2 35s by june.
foggymountainmuscle
What did you use for the two hand plate pinches? 2 45s + more plates or did you tie some on there or added them to the outside?
danegarreau
I used 2 45s with a 2'' dumbbell handel in the hole to add plates onto. It was kinda ghetto, but it works.
danegarreau
3/23/04 Warmup 9'' Log Press 145x7 crap couldn't get 8 145x7 same result 145x6 shoulders and tris were gone Seated 90 degree Dumbbell Press 45x8 hard and strict as crap 45x8 45x8 EzBar Curls 90x8 Horrible form, felt like 200 pounds 90x8 90x8 Dumbbell Curls 35x8 perfect form 35x8 Perfect form 35x8 perfect form Grippers #1x1 #2x0 no set atttempt, 1/8 away #2x1 no set Pr #2x0 no set, 1/8 away #2x0 no set, credit card #2x1 no set Plate curls 30x1 30x1 Felt pretty solid.Try for more weight next time. 25x1 IT wasn't the best workout every but i made progress. My entire back was sore as crap, stiff and hard to move. That is what i am going to blame my poor performance on the log press on, even the clean was hard. But i did achieve a PR in gripers, been trying to no set it for a couple of weeks now.
danegarreau
3/25/04 Warmup Squats 255x8 PR hard as crap struggled after 4 reps 255x6 the last set took it all out of me 255x2 I figured i should stop after i barely even got the first rep. Bottom Position Squats starting nipple level 295x1 385x1 PR walked in place for about 30 seconds 405x1 PR walked in place for about 30 seconds 425x1 PR only walked with it for about 15 seconds, felt pretty heavy Grippers #3-2 attempts, closest was 3/8ths #3-3 negitives #2-10 singles, including 1 noset close It was a good workout, my squats kinds sucked, but the Bottom position squats went well. I now feel very ready for the 375 yoke at my upcoming contest. I think the reason my squats didn't go well was because of my super hard workout on monday, i have noticed this trend for a while now. When ever i go superhard on deadlifts my next weeks lifts suffer.

Incline 140x8 140x8 140x8 Form was kinda sloppy on last couple of reps Closegrip 145x8 PR, hard 145x7 145x7 3 Board Press 155x8 155x7 155x7 Tris were demolished after this. Nail Bending Timber Tiex2 Was really easy Timber Tiex1 Kinked it behind my back 1/4''x6''x1 Kinked it really easily, but couldn't finish it off because chest and tris were so fatigued. A pretty good workout.
foggymountainmuscle
Impressive bend after all that Dane. What is a 3 board press? I thought it was like a lockout, you bench with 3 boards on your chest, stopping the weight far away from the chest. I've seen that before so I assumed it was what you ment but I see you using light poundages so I now have no idea what they are. You should try floor presses, those build some RAW arm pressing strength.
Jeff Parker
I was looking at your gallery and saw u had a thickbar. Did u make it yourself? If so, how? I am looking into competing in a contest in MI in June and the thickbar overhead press is one of the events. It would be nice to be able to practice that event. Thanks
danegarreau
Foggy, yea a 3 board press is just a bench press with 3 2x6s laying on your chest, it really fries your triceps. And yes the poundages are light, only because after dong bench, incline, closgrip presses my triceps are done for and it is all i can handle. Thanks for the complement on the bend, i remember about 2 monthts ago i couldn't even bend a 8x1/4 piece, now i can bend a 6x1/4 piece very easily(if i don't trry it after a bench workout). Strongmantobe, yes i did make my thickbay myself. I just bought a 6.5'x2'' piece of cold rolled steel from a steel suppleir, and then bolted on some collars. Very easy to make, but the bar does get alittle rust on it after a while. It only cost about 40 bucks and was worth every bit of it.If you have any more questions about it just ask.
