I still plan to continue this through the winter but am working cold showers back into the mix to ensure I maintain the adaptation. The great thing lately is that my cold water at the coldest temperature has been 49-51 degrees which keeps it a challenge. I will continue to log ice baths but will not be logging cold showers on here. Edited January 7 by Buccos1

It seems with my reduced girth around the waist, my traditional crush method does not work nearly as effective. I ended up crushing something in my lower rib which caused immediate pain but somehow stuck with it and finished the shoe. . (I've had multiple kidney stones over the past ten years and surgery about 7-8 years ago for one of them.) This one woke me up at 12 a.m. and I was able to endure it for about two hours but ended-up going to the ER, where I waited for another 2-3 hours (in a lot of pain) without being seen. Finally, after having thrown-up two times in the waiting room and still no prospect of being seen, I left the ER. I went home to get pain meds and was able to "tolerate" it until early afternoon the next day, where I decided to try another local hospital (To be continued). Buccos1
Sat (12/30) Cold Plunge 39.5 degrees - 3 min. Not much resolution with the kidney stone and still a lot of pain. I decided to do an ice bath, hoping to kick-start something. Nope. Probably not a good idea! After enduring what felt like an eternity, in trying to warm-up afterwards, I started to get a fever a few hours afterwards. Trying to shake this off until late at night, I had to relent and ended up in the ER a second time. This time, I was able to get-in relatively quick. A CT-scan showed that I had two stones, one in each kidney. Bloodwork and testing showed that the stone was causing the kidney to swell and shut down due to infection. They gave me a ton of medication and told me that I needed to return if I developed a fever. It was suggested that I be admitted but I was hoping to get through this without an extended stay. Again, in the early morning, I had to go back to the ER. Again, there was no urologist on staff but testing showed that there was an infection so they transported me to another hospital and I was admitted. They were planning surgery in a few days. Unfortunately, I had an elderly roommate whose wife was in the room almost 24-7. She complained non-stop about everything. "Why's it so cold in here!?" "This is the worst coffee I've ever tasted. They should be ashamed." The build-up of this was driving me crazy in a short amount of time.

Sorry to hear this Carl! I cannot even imagine how much pain. So the surgery is to remove a kidney stone? That sounds like an outcome which could have instant relief. I hope this all goes smoothly and quickly for you.

We actually had the surgery scheduled and I asked if it were possible to wait a few more days to see what happens. I started pounding lemon water. This, coupled with some of the medications they were giving me, helped to pass the stone the "old fashioned way." The kind of surgery they had slated was the invasive type, with the laser and basket. I had this done about ten years ? ago and it was pretty brutal and I was hoping not to go through that again. The second stone hasn't started moving yet but I am taking the pain meds with me everywhere, just in-case. Fingers crossed!

Of the five kidney stones I've had over the past fifteen years, this was the first one I was able to pass. I wasn't expecting anything but was pretty amped when I heard the rattling sound in the strainer, when I was peeing on one of the 4-5 times per-night, due to the crazy water intake. Now to try to do the same with the second stone from the imaging, when it starts the painful upcoming journey. 1
