I've been wanting to try cold emersion for a few years but could never get enough courage to start, or tolerate cold water much longer than a few seconds.  Over the weekend, we took a trip to the local pool, which was very cold.  I HATE swimming in cold water, which is the only reason I haven't really liked to swim over the years.  But today, I said WTH and jumped into the water with my kids.  After the initial rush of adrenaline wore off, I started to realize that it wasn't that bad.  So I ended up spending the next two hours swimming in a cold pool.  There were a lot of people visibly shivering and I heard a lot of complaints about the water temperature.  I was kinda shocked that I wasn't one of them, as I had felt in the past.

Fast forward to later that night and I amped myself up for a few minutes and decided I was going to try my first cold shower.  I ended-up staying under the cold water for almost fifteen-seconds, which seemed way longer.  The water temp was at 60 degrees.  My water running at the coldest is 57-58 degrees, but I wasn't ready for that.  It was definitely cold but I'm pretty happy I was able to overcome that fear/major dislike today.  I'm going to try this again tomorrow a little colder.

I started doing the Wim Hof cold shower challenge, which adds time of cold water at the end of your regular shower, in increasing time increments.  This is turning out to be a lot of fun.  Definitely challenging but awesome when you are done.

Did my first ice-bath today, which was pretty cool.  I used 40lbs. of ice and was able to get the water temperature to 55 degrees.  I looked at a lot of cold plunge options, all of which were way too expensive.  So, I ended up settling-on a 100 gallon Rubber Maid stock tank which works perfectly.  Ended up staying-in for about 5 minutes.

F45 - cardio day

Cold Plunge
52 degrees (3 minutes)

I recently attained my certified personal trainer designation and started looking around at some training options for part-time work.  In considering F45, I wanted to try a session to see if I would be able to do this type of functional training regularly.  Surprisingly, I got through the entire session but it was pretty brutal.  I am definitely not conditioned for this but it was kinda fun.  Not really my style though.

I am still trying to incorporate cardio into my routine but have not been successful with it.  I'm hoping at my lower weight, I will be able to start working cardio-type exercise into my routine consistently.

I've been taking daily cold showers for over a week now and just did ice bath #2.  Instead of posting about cold showers, I will just update ice baths in my training as it mimics cardio with the associated biomarkers.  It's been tough getting and keeping the water cold with the recent hot weather.  I've already bought almost 100lbs. of ice and haven't been able to get the water colder than the low 50s.

My cold plunge tank is in the backyard, near the woods.  I've been getting a ton of bugs and leaves/debris so decided to purchase a cover for the tank.  It has a drawstring and is reflective, which hopefully, can keep the water a little cooler in summer.

Got a little overzealous today with the ice bath and wanted to beat my early temperature.  Even with 70lbs. of ice, I wasn't able to get it any lower than 51 degrees in the evening.  I started to shiver after about a minute in the 49 degree temperature; wanted to stay-in a little longer but I knew it wouldn't be a good idea at that point.

Sun (7/16)

Cold Plunge
57 degrees (9 minutes)

It's been tough getting the water much colder than 55 degrees with the recent heat.  I've been dumping about 60lbs. of ice in the tank to get the water in the mid-50s.  I'm going to have to buy another 20lb. bag, I think, to get the water down closer to 50.
