You were awesome Kelly, I'll never forget that 500 x 17 deadlift! Well unless I get alzheimers disease haha.

What bout the contest...

congrats on qualifying for nats!! Reno, this year?

Ha, it's posted now, you're the only one who will read it who wasn't there to see it, so this is special for you, lol!

I never really considered the whole qualifying for nats thing. I just realized tonight that the 265 weight class doesn't exist there. Heavy Weight Men is 231 - 300 now. I should either gain or lose 30 lbs, lol!

Let's dirty bulk together... :kiss

That deadlift was impressive!!!

Great comeback after battling back pain for years -- shows a lot of resolve!!

:mosher :mosher :mosher

So, how many pro cards are they going to give out now that the weights are all different for multiple classes? Weird.

Thank Mike!

I guess there is a 265 class that is scored separately. The weights are the same for 231-300. Then for SHW, they have heavier weights. That's the part that is different. The only way to figure these things out is to ask JDef. It would be nice if some central organization would post info on a website, but that's a crazy idea.

Deadlift

3 x 495

2 x 545

1 x 585 - video skip to 1:40

Arm over Arm Prowler

40' x 4 plates

60' x 8 plates - 1:45, took forever, grip was tough for me

Ab Wheel

1 x 20

First time going this heavy in a long time. Not much heavier, I've done 565 for some reps, but still I'm happy with this. Doesn't sound good compared to 500 x 18 touch n go though, lol!

First time using a lever belt in a long time. I like the added support, but it was making me round over a bit. Think I was good for a bit more.

Log

Strict, with ankle extension

2 x 2 x 230 - PR

1 x 2 x 230 + 1 push press

Haven't done mush strict log before. I've always avoided it, probably because I'm bad at it. Usually bothers my shoulders too. Knees still ache so decided to try strict. Went better than expected. Found a groove that felt good at the bottom, which is usually my worst spot.

I get the same problem with my belt and rounding a bit on the deadlifts. My 4 inch belt touches my ribcage and my hips. Never really worried about it because I was fat and used the rehband. Now that I've lost a little weight it just hurts.

I was reading an article a while back, and the guy was talking about using a 2 or 3 inch belt for deadlifts. And also playing with the positioning of the belt. Still 10mm. The website is: www.bestbelts.net

Price is pretty steep, but its got me intrigued. Maybe when grad schools over...

The article was on t-nation.

Hey Collin-

I've been tempted to do the opposite. I ordered a Bob's Belt, the big one that is 5" wide. I just figured I should have one, lol. I haven't used it yet. It's a prong belt and I'm sort of claustrophobic and worried I'll get stuck in it.

I still need to try it w/o the rehband. It feels good, but I wonder if it changes my deadlift too much.

7/12/14 - Sat

Box Squat

14" box again, which is 1" lower than normal.

2 x 1 x 455

Doesn't seem like this is super low, it doesn't look below parallel, but this was hard today. Flexibility seemed to be an issue.

Shrugs

20 x 405

20 x 495

Curls

Pushups

7/15/14 - Tues

Bench

10 x 135, 185, 225

4 x 275

3 x 315 - felt great, like an empty bar.

1 x 335

1 x 370 - narrow grip to here, index finger about 1.5" from the smooth

1 x 405 - medium grip, pinky in 1.5" from rings. 30 lb pr

this wasn't exactly the plan for today, but 315 felt so good I just had to go for it!

Log

3 x 160 - strict

3 x 210 - strict

1 x 230

1 x 250

0 x 270

1 x 270 - i'm calling this a technical PR, my old ones were jerks

Turned these into push presses. My knees are getting a little better, which is a relief. I've pretty much always done a push jerk. I learned something last week when I forced myself to strict press the log. A way to rack it better. When I get it right, the press feels good.

Slingshot Bench

10 x 315 - paused

405 bench video - skip to 1:15s

270 log - skip to :30s

Yea, so I'm pumped about this! Benching 405 has been a goal for 6 years.

Matt, thanks again for the nice lift off.

Thanks Mike! Yea, I hope I have a little more in the tank. There is a max log at Winkler, and just 2 weeks left to train. Gotta do some yoke training too. Weight is 850 and I've only attempted up to 750 before, lol.

7/17/14 - Thurs

Deadlift

all full reset reps, for a change

lever belt, no rehband

1 x 495 - DO. happy about this, finger is getting stronger

8 x 545 + 2 shrugs. slow set. puked in my mouth after 1st rep, determined it was too much to swallow, spit, proceeded. pretty close to PR range.

(shrugs were for power stairs training)

Rope Pullups

7, 10

Ab Wheel / Ab Rotation

2 x 20 / 2 x 20

8 x 545 video

1 x 495 DO video

Been about 2.5 months since I sprained my left index finger, and it's starting to come around. Still some swelling, and range of motion needs work, but the rehab seems to be helping.

Deadlift went much better than expected. I just wanted 5 clean, full reset reps. 5 weeks ago I did 8 x 545 touch n go, so I'm really happy with this.

Are they really strong? Maybe I need to reconsider.

Matt, I don't really have experience in spit/swallow, you know, not ever being a bodybuilder I never have had to practice that.

So jealous of that workout area. I miss. Ah.

You're a little lose throughout the T-spine. Try contracting the erectors around the thoracic spine -- it'll pull you chest up some and keep a more neutral, stable spine you can push off of throughout the movement. Eric lillebridge is a really good example to watch.

I saw Eric at Dubuque, he was doing the meet next to the comp! I think he missed a thousand pound raw squat :/
