lancep
Day 6 Program Aug 9th 2004: BruteBell Lift - 165x1, 165x1, 165x1, 175x1, 185 x 1/4 (RH only) * Almost got 185, I was getting it about 3-4 inches off the ground. It would tilt and roll out of my hand. COC Grippers - #2x10, #2x10, #3x1, #3x1, #4 x 1/2, #4 x 1/2, #4 x 1/3 (RH) #2x5, #2x5, #2x5, #3 x 3/4, #3 x 3/4, #3 x 1/2, #3 x 3/4 (LH) * RH hand was tired from BruteBell lift. LH is getting closer to getting the #3. notes: The BruteBell has a 3" diameter handle that is 6" long and globes are 13" in diameter each. I am thinking that 200lbs should be possible in the next 8 weeks with it. Next time out I will do RH & LH with it. The #4 is going to take the better part of the rest of the year I think. I have a long road ahead on that one... pics: nothing new, camera was out of batteries. BruteBell Edited August 10, 2004 by lancep
lancep
Day 4 Program August 13th 2004: 12" BruteStrength.com Economy Log Cleans - 250x5, 300x1, 340x1, 390 x 1/2, 390x0 * Just did cleans. I got a bit ahead of myself going for the 390. My technique is still for crap as I am not rolling the log up like I should. I am more hitching it up and it does not work real well. STAY notes: Will do my cleans and the rest of Day 4 stuff in the morning. Did not have enough time and energy tonight. I should be able to fully clean the 390-400 without much trouble when I get my form in check. Hopefully within the next 3-4 log sessions. I do like these 12" logs pics: 340lb 12" BruteStrength Log Clean
lancep
Random Program August 14th 2004: 865lb tire flip + BruteStrength.com Deluxe Sled drag - 7flips, 7flips, 6flips * This was NOT FUN. By far this looks like it is shaping up to be my worst event. Endurance was crap and so was my tire flip technique. I could not flip the tire in one smooth motion. BAD. STAY notes: Snapped the cable I was using on the sled drag after the first set of tire flips. Too bad I NEED TO ADD SOME SORT OF CARDIO WORK. My current level of cardiovacular conditioning is not going to allow me to do well in any of the endurance events. I am probably going to srat doing some hill runs in the morning 4 times per week. pics: none
lancep
Day 5 Program August 16th 2004: Viking Press - 250x5, 300x5, 300x5, 350x3, 400 x 1/2 * Felt really explosive on these today! Should be able to get a 350x5 next time out. STAY Seated Dumbell Press - 120x5, 120x5, 120x3 * Almost ready to bump the weight up. STAY Standing Side Laterals - 55x5, 55x5, 55x5 * A little easier. STAY notes: The Viking Presses felt really good. I am getting some of that pop back in my pressing. I should be able to make a big move in the VP next time out. Seated presses felt good as well. Most likely will end up with a 3x5 next time out and bump the weight to 130s. Next time out I am going to do some timed holds after my regular sets too. video: Rolling Thunder 180lbs Rolling Thunder 205lbs Rolling Thunder 225lbs
lancep
Day 7 Program August 23rd 2004: 2" Thickbar Deadlift - 325x5, 375x5, 435x3, 475x1, 520x1, 560x1 * Felt good on these. I did wrap the knee, but it felt fine. My grip held up just fine. After looking at the video I noticed I was slightly short of lockout on the 560. INCREASE 18" Rack Deadlifts ( bottom of weights at 10") - 495x3, 585x1, 675x1 * This felt much better this time out. Go ahead and move up next time. INCREASE Hyper Extensions - BWx8, BWx8. BWx8 * Need to add plates. INCREASE notes: I need to kick it into gear and keep myself from getting lazy. Too long between workouts! I felt good on the deadlifts, but noticed my form is not real great. I think by smoothing things out and get to getting I should be over 600 by Sept20th. videos: 2" Thickbar Deadlift: 435x3 2" Thickbar Deadlift: 520x1 2" Thickbar Deadlift: 560x1
Jedd Johnson
Those pulls are Ridiculous, Lance. Does the thicker bar even take anything away from your ability to get the bar up to the middle of the thigh? Looks like they might not have been totally locked out up top, but they came up to the mid-thigh like rockets. Your deadlift form is concise! Looks like you know exactly how much to bend your hips and then you just lift. Awesome, man. Looked like you could have given 600 a ride, too. -Jedd-

lancep
Thanks guys! That last lift felt strange. I think it was near the top but I just didn't bump my hips forward. I thought it kind of looked like I was locking my hips a bit too much but I don't know???? For me it sure does feel harder at the top, I have an easier time with the top using a regular bar. I am really liking these TB dead though.

lancep
Day 8 Program August 26th 2204: Close Grip ( 16" ) Bench Press - 245x5, 295x5, 335x3, 385x1, 425x1, 445x1/2 * These felt great today. Hit my goal of 425 & went 1/2 on the 445. Phyc'ed myself out on the last one. Spotters are good STAY Top 1/3 Close Grip ( 16" ) - 405x5, 460x3, 495x1, 545x1, 585x0 * Super explosive up till 545. Then 585 would not budge. STAY Bottom 1/3 Isometic Close Grip - 225x8sec, 225x8sec, 225x8sec * Really felt the strain here. Tris have about had it. STAY DB Extensions - 70x5, 70x5 * Could not do 3rd set. Tris are fried. STAY BB Curls - 135x5, 155x5, 175x3 * Hard, hard, hard. STAY Seated DB Curls - x, x, x * Too dead to do these notes: All in all today went very well. I am really feeling the explosiveness coming back at this point. Hopefully this will start carrying over into everything else. I am really shooting to hit that 445 next time out.

lancep
Day 5 Program September 20th 2004: AM - Bike for 30 minutes. Mountain program. Viking Press - 250x5, 300x5, 300x5, 350x5, 400 x 1 * This went well again, I will keep increasing reps until I hit 400x5. I will probably jump to sets of 8 on the others. STAY Seated Dumbell Press - 125x5, 125x4, 125x3 * Endurance took a crap here. STAY Seated Shoulder Rack Lockouts - 315x5, 375x3, 405x1 * Killed me, keep the weight the same and shoot for 5x5. STAY Standing Side Laterals - 55x5, 55x5, 55x5 * Death. STAY notes: The day went well. I am making steady gains on the Viking Press and am happy there. Big endurance troubles. Hopefully the cardio I am adding helps a bit there. But I think the increase in reps will help too. Kind of build strenth then endurance. Once my endurance catches up DB presses will go up quick. lancep
I sent off my entry for the Jan 22 Snowman 2005 yesterday. I am really going to bust my ass to get ready for the contest. I really am going to keep focused on keeping my diet clean and to improve my endurance. Here are the events for the Snowman, good ol strongman type stuff... TIRE MEDLEY - 3 FLIPS WITH AN 800, 2 FLIPS WITH AN 1180, 1 FLIP WITH A 1350 - 90 SEC LIMIT, NO TACKY! PRESS MEDLEY - CLEAN AND PRESS A 200 LB ROCK, A 240 KEG, A 280 AXLE, AND A 320 LOG. 2 MIN LIMIT DEADLIFT - A SHORT PULL - 6-8" RANGE MOVEMENT - MASSIVE LIFTS WILL BE DONE. EXPECT 1500 LBS OR MORE! STRAPS ALLOWED. THE LOAD - 5 DIFFERENT OBJUCTS LOADED TO A 52 IN PLATFORM - 245LB ROUND STONE, 280LB QUARRY STONE, 300LB ANVIL, THE TURD(330LBS), AND A 400LB CONCRETE FILLED KEG CAR LIFT & HOLD - FACING OUT, SIDE HANDLES, STRAPS ALLOWED By far the tire flip is going to suck for me. I need to go hunting for some monster tires. I have a 860lbr. But that is a long ways from 1350! I will also probably do the KC Pro-Am as well Febuary 26th. I am REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO 2005! lancep
Day 7 Program September 21st 2004: 24" Rack Deadlift - 585x3, 675x2, 765x1, 855x1, x, x * These were fairly easy. Would have been good for 1000 probably. My Ivanko weights are too thick and don't leave much room on the bar. I will have to make some kind of bar extension or something. INCREASE Car Deadlift Hold - 555lbx1:05sec , 645x50sec, 735x55sec * These are not fun at all, they just plain hurt like hell. Start with 735 next time then jump to 825. INCREASE Car Deadlift Reps - 735x5, 735x5, 735x5 * Easy need to jump to 825 next time out, shoot for a 8x8. INCREASE Hyper Extensions - BWx8, BWx8. BWx8 * Lazy ass, should have held a plate. INCREASE notes: I need to get the blocks made so I can practice the partial dead outside the rack. Sounds like at the Snowman we will be pulling from blocks. I am not to sure what to do about the lack of room on the bar. I will figure somethig out next time. The start height on the handles is 18" on the Car dead setup so I might want to drop that to 15". Wish I would have done 2" thickbar deads too, next time I guess. Videos: 24" Rack Deadlift: 855x1 Car Dead reps: 735x5
lancep
Day 8 Program September 23rd 2204: Close Grip ( 16" ) Bench Press - 245x5, 295x5, 335x3, 385x1, 425x1, 445x0 * Felt like hammered crap today. Could barely drag my ass to the gym. Top 1/3 Close Grip ( 16" ) - 405x5, 460x3, 495x1, 545x1, 585x1/10th * 545 went up easy. Could barely break 585 off the pins. STAY Bottom 1/3 Isometic Close Grip - DND, DND, DND * Didn't do these today. Somebody was using the other powerrack so I couldn't have the safety pins from that one. DB Extensions - 70x5, 70x5 * Fairly easy, jump to 75s. INCREASE BB Curls - 135x5, 155x5, 175x3 * Not too hard, probably increase by 10lbs next time. INCREASE Seated DB Curls - x, x, x * Too dead to do these notes: Today I was bummed out. My uncle died after being sick for a long time so it kind of sucked. My mom is taking it hard. So needless to say I really wasn't into it 100%.
tarudriller
Hey Lance- Sorry to hear about your uncle. I lost one of mine last November under similar circumstances (long illness due to cancer, he fought like an S.O.B. but it was just too much) so I understand how much it sucks. BTW I was just giving you grief a while back about the Raiders, as a diehard Packer fan I know all about rabid loyalty! Oh yeah, your workouts.... lancep
Day 2 Program: September 28th 2004 Press Medley: 180lb rock, 225lb keg, 270lb 2" axle, 300lb Log - done, done, done, miss. * Wow this was humbling! I could not breath at all by the time I got to the log. I will bump up the weights on the rock, keg, & axle next time. 3/4 INCREASE 180lb rock press - 180x5 * I am not to familar with the rock lifting. VERY VERY aukward! I will probably go the 200lb rock next time. INCREASE 225lb keg press - 225x2 * I am kind of getting the hang of this lift now. I will do much better next time. Move it up to 240lbs. INCREASE 270lb 2" axle press - 270x3 * I should be fine to move up here too. Head to 280lbs. INCREASE 300lb 8" Log - 300x2 * This was very very iffy. I will use the 12" log next time and I should be A-ok. STAY 12" Log Incline Press - 230x5, 250x5, 300x3, 340x1, 360x1/2 (From dead stop on chest) * More or less crapped out here. Should have gotten 360lbs! STAY Flat Dumbell Press - 160x3, 160x3, 160x3 * That took almost everything. It's OVA ROCK! Flat Dumbell Flys - x,x,x * Dead, did not do. notes: This was a very very tiring workout for me today. I did about as well as I thought I would on the medley. The Snowman is going to have the weights of: 200lb rock, 240lb keg, 280lb 2" axle, 320lb Log for the medley. I think I should be able to finish in the next 2 sessions. Then I will work on improving my time. By the time I got done with all the pressing I did not have much at all left for the gym work. I expect my fitness levels to improve at a fast pace though. videos: Quarry stone press: 180x5 Keg Press: 225x2 2" Axle Press: 270x3
