Pops Grip Machine - (all bands) 90 x 5, 135 x 5, 175 x 3, 205 x 2 (5 sets)

32 card stack tear.

Quick one today, just making up for what I didn't do yesterday. Went well. Left ring finger didn't bother me too much.

So I tried to do some lifting (pressing) today anyway. Bad idea... Haha. Not worth posting. I was only up there for like 20 minutes and called it quits.

However, I have noticed my strength has depleted quite a bit over the last month or so, so what I'm going to do is military press twice a week for a bit to really focus in on it and get those numbers back up, so I won't be doing the log press for a while...

Planning on starting light and using a really gradual approach to progression for this. Hopefully this will work for me. Something's gotta give.

So I'm sick. Real sick. I'll be taking the whole week off work and training.

BUT there are a few things about this that are good...

1) Ive got time to read.

2) I've got time to think. About all sorts of thing, but especially about training. And I've revised my schedule to make it a more back-to-basics sort of approach, with a slower and more deliberate method of progression which I think will help me get back on the horse when I can start training again.

3) in a weird way, this is allowing me to get some much needed recovery time, for my body as a whole, and for my left ring finger in particular. It's already feeling a lot better simply because I haven't been doing anything. Hopefully it will have healed back to almost normal by the time I start training again, because I want to make a run at the grippers :)

Thursday 7-4-13 at YMCA

Axle military Press - 75 x 5, 100 x 3, 125 x 3, 150 x 5 singles

Axle cleans - 125 x 3, 145 x 3, 165 x 3.

Bottom squats - 95 x 5, 135 x 5, 185 x 5, 225 x 5.

Axle four finger deadlifts -

1st 2 - 75 x 3, 125 x 3, 145 x 3, 165 x 3 singles.

Last 2 - 75 x 3, 95 x 3, 115 x 3, 125 x 3 singles.

36 card stack tear - torn into 3rds, not bad, considering I didn't mean to tear it into 3rds!

Obviously I was taking it easy today, but it really felt great to be back to the iron. Everything went smoothly, and I'll start progressing on this new scheme soon.

Yeah these are $1 per pack, and a bit harder. I think they're supposed to be right under bicycles in terms of difficulty.

So I've been bad about logging stuff. I've been training, just not logging. I will fix this tomorrow.

No they are plastic coated.

I think bikes are kind of the standard. Not super tough, but not easy. I know there are several brands tougher than bikes, but they're harder to find. Bikes you can get anywhere, and they're decently hard.

Bikes are made of some sort of different material, like linen, so when you tear them, you have to go through all these fibers. Mavs are plastic coated paper, but they're of a decent thickness, and slippery.

Do you know where the vegas/used casino cards lie?

I used to be an avid card magic practitioner and still have a sizable bicycle collection, but am not wanting to tear any for comparison.

I think they're are supposed to be effin' hard. Maybe vegas being the hardest. I could be wrong, but that sounds correct....

If not those, I know there is some casino card that is supposed to be really hard.

Well, I've torn whole bike decks on several occasions. Albeit slowly, but I've done em. Also strained tendons in my elbows doing it. Haha. My poor form allowed me to power through it, but just so.

But my goal is to be able to do it swiftly and smoothly, which I can't do yet, and which I can't even really practice for at the moment because it hurts my left ring finger too much. I can do 36 cards in a maverick stack in what I would consider acceptable fashion. When I can, I will work on this again to progress.

Did you get jedd's ebook? You should, it is an excellent resource.

Got Jedd's ebook.

I almost cornered a Maverick deck the other day (settled for halfing it), should put up that video.

My arms are very strained too, you gotta rest with this stuff.

Do you have the Ironmind Anvil or a homemade version? And what is your one rep max with it? Or have you not tested it, except for reps. Just curious because I have a superbly crafted one (not Ironmind though) that I trained with for the first time yesterday and am enjoying the feel of it immensely. I think it will be pretty close to the Ironmind version in terms of poundage though. If someone wants to do a short-term trade (Ironmind for the one I have) I am open for that. Strictly so I can compare the two versions and see if I should buy the Ironmind version also. One for each hand.

Mine was made for me by a machinist... It's bigger at the base than the ironmind one, and slopes to a narrower point.

Honestly ive heard the ironmind one isn't that great...

My max on is 170. I pulled that one time almost by accident. I don't know how, I think I got lucky. Haha. Unfortunately I cant really train it right now. I do my grip training in the garage and it is wayyy too humid to lift that thing. It just squirts out of my hand. Haha

Yesterday, Thursday 7-18-13 at the YMCA

Axle Military press - 75 x 5, 100 x 3, 125 x 3, 150 x 2, 150 x 2, 150 x 2, 150 x 1, 150 x 1.

Deadlift - 135 x 5, 225 x 5, 315 x 3, 375 x 3, 415 x 2, 415 x 2, 415 x 2.

Axle bottom bench - 125 x 5, 145 x 5, 165 x 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

Axle rows- 125 x 5, 145 x 5, 165 x 5, 165 x 5 165 x 5.

RT

Left - 125 x 3, 150 x 3, 160 x 3, 170 x 3, 180 x 3, 185 x 2, 190 x nope

Right - 125 x 3, 150 x 3, 160 x 3, 170 x 3, 180 x 3, 185 x 1, 190 x nope

So yeah, I've been bad about posting. BUT i have been training, and though I have been playing around with it a bit, progression is coming steady and I've even gained a few pounds back :) My goals right now are to regain both my power and size that I've lost, and I think that is coming along well so far. But I'm not going to fill in all the sessions I haven't logged.

Yesterday went well, just progressing on with the military press and deadlift. Still playing with the bench a bit, on how I want to apply it as a secondary lift.

Gripping lately has been an issue simply because it has been so damn hot and humid here. So I've just been doing what I can, without so much concern for going to my max every time, or keeping to a strict rep/set scheme, because right now everything grip wise is kind of up in the air due to the climate. When it cools off a bit, grip training will be more normal again and I can approach it as such. But right now it's just a matter of doing what I can in this heat, since no matter what I do I can't seem to keep my hands or the equipment dry.

Good to see that you're posting again. And that you've been training.

My RT broke 100 for the first time. Slowly but surely, catching up to you.
