vulcan was an improvement. before nats I was hitting level 15 and closes were about 1/3 good, 2/3 almost. all 3 of these were solid closes. tried level 16 after this and it felt like a brick was between the handles. but, a good sign.

warm up

MM2 attempt. This went ok. the video is uploading for judging right now. I think the second attempt was good but, the vid is terrible. oh well.

ccs 3x3 RB 210. easy right but, I wanted to take it easy after the mm attempts.

1hp 70/75/80/85 miss. i was rushing these after all the time spent on the mm attempts. I think with a bit more break the 85 will go.

45# block 3x5

cup lift 45/90/135/180/225/250. 250 is very close to where I go out.

stub 10/20/30/40 miss. after all of the above the stub wasn't there today. so i repped out at 25# 7 left/9 right.

Nice 2HP work and your wrist roller, is it a thick or normal one? Has the stub hold given you any carryover to other lifts? Good lifts here

didn't get my last couple of sessions before WSH up here. so, WSH results:

9th overall. missed the WR n the stub but I did float 55#. I had pulled it a couple times in training but, something happened to my right index finger that robbed me of that last couple % of strength.

the placing shows what I have known for a while. I need to bring up my grippers and my wrists. wrist work is something I left fall off and before I know it it's been 2 months since I did any wrist work. not any more. grippers I have been working on. Chez really prpomoted the use of rubber bands on the vulcan to progress between levels. I'll be adding that in directly. all in all I did about what I expected and am already gearing up for my next leg of training.

You kicked some serious butt this weekend. I was really impressed with your thick bar lift and stub. The highlight for me was after the contest when you lifted Jedd's monster block weight and held it for a few seconds at lock out. That thing is ridiculously wide and I couldn't imagine lifting it myself.

my elbows and wrists are still bothering me from WSH. I don't think I have ever taken this long to recover from a comp. I think that worrying about making my weight class caused me to be slightly dehydrated. didn't drink enough and now I ache. hopefully this will all clear up shortly. the 2hp was a max test since I have some new things I want to try.

vulcan ccs 3x1 14/13, 14/13, 14/13. right was good, left might need to drop down another level still.

filed BBGM overcrush 3x

behind back wrist curls w/ axle 5x10 110# added

wrist dev 4x5 level 1.

skipped some block weight work because my elbows and hands are still bothering me from WSH. I've been doing a lot of rehab and they are getting better but, I'm trying very hard not to push and just let things heal.

Those are really strong CCS closes on the Vulcan.

they seem to be. my best with 20mm is level 15. I tried that with a ccs and it was awful. I think that this sort of taking it easy period is going to pay off huge once things are totally healed up and I'm really going after again. but, I've had a couple of injuries in the past that just hung around forever and I'm trying to prevent that again. so, work as hard as I can without making things worse and rehab/prehab all day long.

The one thing I don't understand is why my fingers hurt so bad. the elbow issues are from WD, I get that. but, I have some pretty real pain in my finger joints. since it seems to be mostly index I'm guessing the stub? it's part of the reason I'm skipping the pinch pull comp. I'm pretty sure I could take the WR in the coin but, I don't want to make this all worse by training it hard for 5 weeks.

Where is the pain in your finger joints; base of finger or tips? I strained a tendon in my right ring finger prior to the Arnold and it took til just before Nationals to heel. Fatbar and standard bar lifts were painful, could the adjustable thickbar at WSH have bitten you? Did i hear of others who injured themselves on this as well?

For the adbistable thick bar does your middle finger get bottomed out?

Have you ever tried the D-Flame for inflammation?

the reason I'm blaming the stub is that this all started while pulling stub at the end of a workout. adj thickbar is a good guess to since that would have been trained same session.

the pain is mostly in the distal most joint of my index. and to some degree ring finger on left hand. another things is that it does seem to move around.

sitting here right now I have another idea. our mocked up adj thickbar didn't have as much clearence as the horne version. fingers could get kind of wedged. it's possible that the fingers were being stretched out under load. god only knows what that would do to me? strained cartlidge? strained tendons? bad case of ouchy finger?

anyway, it does seem to be getting better. while I am taking it a bit easy I'm also training pretty hard. i am watching it and am prepared to back off if need be.

andrew, I pulled 340 for 9 DO the saturday after WSH. my grip did fail but, it seemed to be humidity. no pain at all from that during or after.

Were you tearing any cards off and on during prep? I messed my index and middle fingers up bad one time doing multiple tears in one session for a fundraiser. Took a while to heal.

I haven't torn cards in forever. and, I also haven't tried the deflame.

I have been taking extra fish oil. it feels cool enough tonight that I'll try to wear my gloves to bed. that always helps but, it's been too warm.
