carusom1
Matt- Thanks. I was thinking about this yesterday while doing incline. In 2004 I hit 365 on the incline; so, that's how far I've come in 8 years . Brouse- I've been planning on ASM for several months now. Been cancelled twice, and now is at the Olympia. 083012 Farmer's Hold: 3 x 5 sec x 430 430 x 15 sec finger-tip grip 335 x 30 sec (PR) Stretch Edited August 31, 2012 by carusom1

MattM
Looks like that deload you took a while ago really paid off in PRs! Do you generally back off volume and increase intensity to peak (at the Olympia) or do you do the opposite?

Do you generally back off volume and increase intensity to peak (at the Olympia) or do you do the opposite? Normally, I will decrease volume while increasing intensity. Although, this cycle the volume has been backed off for a while due to schedule changes and will probably maintain that over the next couple weeks. 090612 Stone Shoulder: 365R, 365L (left PR) 240 x 10 R 200 x 10 L rep PRs Stretch Edited September 7, 2012 by carusom1

carusom1
Thanks Matt and Collin, for posting. Placed 2nd, which is not bad but my performance really wasn't what I had expected on some of the events. Overall, I'm glad I got out of there relatively injury free. The stone training I did the week before the show had injured my bicep much worse than I orginally had anticipated. The tear was deep and I had quite a bit of bruising. With therapy I was able to relieve the pain and had good range of motion. At the contest I ended up straining the other (right) bicep again. I need to figure out what's going on and correct my technique. Log: 430 fairly easy The 445 clean was relatively easy, but I didn't get under the log enough to get the press. Yoke: 850 in 7.8 sec; 950 in 11.2 sec Didn't make it to the 3rd round which was a huge disappointment. On the 950 run the yoke slipped off my back half way through the run, and I'm not sure why. Yoke is a good event for me and I knew if I was in the final round that I had a good shot at winning the event. Stupid mistakes I can't afford. H-stone: 400 x 227ft Every time I've done this event my breathing is my limiting factor. This is the first time my posterior chain completely gave out on me and I didn't put the stone down due to lack of air. I thought I had 250+ for sure -- have to keep working on this as well. Stone Shoulder: 330 x 4 (almost had the 5th) The stone felt very slippery and I was a bit apprehensive due to the bicep. Really suprised to see everyone struggle with this event. I thought 10 reps was going to win, but it ended up being half that. DB Medley: 200, 215, 230, 245 (easy and fast) missed the 265. With some more time and training I will be able to get up to this and more. Farmer's / Barrel: 330 tanks x 22ft (thicker handles) I knew before the event began that it was going to be extremely difficult due to my hands being swollen. I don't know what caused my hands to swell so bad but the farmer's might as well of been 150lbs, I just couldn't grab anything. I know from training that after performing the Circus DB (3" handle) I would get a case of "fat palm" -- consequently, if you've ever benched a ton of weight you'll know what I mean. Very frustrating, especially considering the hold work I put in and made good progress. Need to get some thicker handle farmers since this seems to be a all they use in the pro league. Car Dead: 5 reps Of course, I don't know the weight but everyone thought it was pretty damn heavy. A lot of zeros on this event. Suicide Medley: 240 Sandbag / 230 keg / 350 duckwalk / 1000+ sled 75ft I think I got the sled maybe 2/3rds of the course. Not bad but I would like to actually finish this damn event some day.
