Nice video indeed, I could watch all of it yesterday throughout the day at work (some minutes here and there)...

Yes there is video of it. Also if the iso hold Magnus did was his best effort thats embarrassing. There's 150 lbs pullers that do that easy.

It would be interesting to see if those 150lb pullers could do it after barbell curling 308 x 4, THEN do db curls w/ 100lb, and THEN do the iso' hold, which, if you look, was actually more than 45kilos. Although now that I think of it, it would be interesting to see if those 150lb pullers could even just curl the 308lb barbell. Once. Using form far worse than Magnus. They couldn't. Voevoda could beat Magnus in a AW, but, c'mon people, Magnus has the stronger bi's.

As far as being certified in the #4, Magnus Samuelsson is a HUGE name to attach yourself to if you want to sell grippers. I haven't seen the video of Magnus closing it under authenticated conditions, has anyone else?

IRONMIND NEWS, FEB. 2, 2004

"1998 World's Strongest Man winner Magnus Samuelsson has long been known for his ferociously strong grip, and when he ground the handles on a No. 4 Captains of Crush gripper this weekend, he proved the point again. Although he came into strongman from arm wrestling, Magnus Samuelsson is not a pure grip specialist, but rather a guy who trains his hand strength as part of his overall preparation for strongman contests. Nonetheless, Magnus has some of the strongest hands around, and early last year he was starting to draw a bead on the world-renown No. 4. "I was peaking up to World's Strongest Man (2003)," Magnus said, "but if you do too much, your hands get sore," so he backed off. Starting again after this period of rest, Magnus has really hit his stride, and he said that since Christmas he has been able to close the No. 4 on a good day, and on Saturday, when he was the official witness for Jim Gahnfelt (going for his certification on the No. 3), Magnus said he felt good and just wanted to give it try. Beginning with only a slight set, Magnus proceeded to grind the handles on the No. 4, explaining, "If I have a good day, I can crush it with some speed." Although he has never had a chance to try a Blob, Magnus admits that he has a pretty good pinch grip, and he is a former world-record holder on the Rolling Thunder, so don't think his hand strength is limited to stellar performances on grippers."

FEB. 28, 2004

"Performing in front of his official witness today, Magnus Samuelsson closed the No. 4 Captains of Crush gripper. Not just a very popular World's Strongest Man winner and one of the top competitors on the international strongman circuit, Magnus Samuelsson has long been known as a man with extraordinary hand strength, and it seemed to be only a matter of time before he would close the No. 4 Captains of Crush gripper under official conditions. Leaving no doubt of his command over this remarkably tough gripper, Magnus closed it decisively today, in a most impressive display of hand strength."

It would be interesting to see if Magnus could curl 308 lbs at 150. Let alone when he weighs more than what he is curling.

If a 150 guy could curl double bodyweight then he would be pound for pound stronger than magnus.

Point is when you weigh over 300 pounds a 45 kg iso isn't impressive or at least impressive enough to put on your strongest biceps in the world video.

It doesn't matter. Fact is, the 150lb guys can't do it. I've never been at all interested in this "pound for pound" stuff.

If somebody is truly stronger, then they are downright stronger than the little guy, regardless of the % of their bodyweight they are curling. More is more, no two ways around it. Point is, if anybody else attempted the 45+ kilo hold after they got done doing what he did, their arm would flop down like a 10 y/o's under the weight. If Magnus started fresh with the iso, you can take it to the bank that he'd be doing alot more than he did.

Besides, it's not the "Worlds Strongest Biceps" video, it's the "Worlds Strongest Arms" which also encompasses forearms and triceps. There are a maybe few others who have stronger bi's than Magnus(Hoeberl comes to mind), but none of them have dominated every aspect of arm and overall strength the way Magnus has. I can say with absolute, 100% surety that Magnus is the only one who can easily bench 595 for a double(and claims he can do 660 shirtless), curl 308 x 4, and rep a #4 with 3 fingers. Also, you can't say "If Magnus weighed 150". He's over 6'5", if he weighed 150, he'd look like something from the holocaust. And even still, his 350lb weight comes from overall body development, not just arms. But, if you bring biomechanics into it, and consider, because of his size, the mechanical disadvantage in leverage he's working against as compared to someone much smaller than him, and the fact that he still curls 308 x 4 is insane.

Magnus is strong man no doubt and I am a big fan.

Fact is your right there hasn't been a 150lb man curling 308, if there was Magnus would have to curl 700 pounds to be impressive. Also I've seen him pull his elbows back a bit when he's curling with a barbell. So that takes away his length disadvantage some. < < But since he weighs more than what he is lifting that again is an advantage ;) .

Also the whole curl 308 x 4 and then do the iso anyones arm but his will flop down like a ten year olds isn't necessarily true considering the different muscles used (it was a hammer curl position iso ).

I'm not saying Magnus isn't one of the strongest men in the world. I'm just commenting on the video as it relates to useful armwrestling strength training since this is the infamous Vs. thread. So I commented on one of the exercises he was doing that I believed to be a good exercise for armwrestling. So like I said if thats the best iso he can do it's lacking....I doubt its the best he can do just so you know.

No ones attacking your hero bro......just basing opinions on the facts at hand.

Alright bro, see what you mean, as it relates to useful armwrestling strength :rock Just commenting on the past topic swing who's got the strongest bi's. I'm not really looking at AW strength, just looking at the overall bicep strength...

Also, I see what you mean about the hammer curl position using different muscles (outer bi-head, brachialis, etc.),

but, from my own experience, I know that doing a heavy set of barbell curls first really exhausts my hammer curl strength.

Btw, if you look at it, it doesn't look like a 45kg dumbbell. Looks like 50kg to me. Not that it's a huge difference ;)

Yeah glad were on the same page now with the whole thing.

I also really would like to see Magnus give his best attempt at a hammer curl hold/negative. Just to see what his numbers are.

Come on guys, AW is mostly static base strength/power. Magnus was showing dynamic strenth which is irrelavent to AW. In dynamic power few people are better than Magnus. In static power Magnus is still below a lot of people in AW any way. This is not to say he is weaker. It is just different aspects of strength. WE can not compare them. He is great in any thing with dynamic movement. However in AW where static power is the king, then he is not there yet at the top, but he is still the world strongest man. There is a guy in UK can hold a 75kg dumbbell staticly one arm (foreram was at 45 degree angle) for 18 seconds on youtube at 65kg body weight, that doesn't mean he is stronger than Magnus. BUt he is a specialist in that particular AW angle.

There is this guy in my gym who can curl a great amount of weight on Hammer curl machine, but when I grapped his arm I can pull it down any which way I want and please yet! I didn't really feel much resistant from him. But I could not curl what he curled. Seriously on AW table I can break his arm with a hard side pressure hit (but I won't :) ) but I still can't curl what he can curl dynamicly. It's just so different!

I can beat most people who can curl more than me only because of superior hand strength. and magnus showed his deal of hand strength by closing the no. 4..

Numbers don't mean a lot anyway tho..

There are many people who can and have benched 600lbs for double, mangus is strong and all but for pure static strength he is nowhere near the best ever. He is far too light in fact lol, some of the best static strength monsters are all over 400lbs. His hands though are ridiculous, 3 finger #4 close has never been done by anyone else. He is one of the best strongmen ever though, he uses his great strength athletically something those 400lb monsters could never do.

Great video!!! I watched the whole thing straight through, though I must say that I am surprised that there was no mention of armwrestling. As Europe's former best armwrestler, I expected that to be covered, as the rest of Magnus' beginning was, starting with him gaining strength and dedication from farm work, doing hurdles, starting bench competitions, then it skipped right to Sweden's strongest man. What came first for Magnus, Armwrestling or Sweden Strongman competitions, or was it at the same time?

Yes, there are a few people who can out bench him, and even fewer who can out-curl him(only Hoeberl comes to mind), but NOBODY who can do all three with the dominance he does :rock He's the only one who's elite in all those feats. No one else can rep a #4 with three fingers, bench 300kg, and curl 308 x 4. Oh, and he's drug-free, too... Magnus is the man :rock:bow

That's an excerpt from the "Worlds Strongest Arms" DVD. That was covered in the rest of the DVD, along with some other stuff.

Ok thanks, I have already watched that armwrestling video several times in the past so.

You know Cyplenkov is a strongman with not that great technique in armwrestling and he run over pushkar and semerenko. Magnus is by far a better Strongman and I think he would beat Cyplenkov at armwrestling. If Cyplenkov can beat pushkar and Semerenko that easy then he would beat mr brzenk also, so would magnus...

I'm sure 99,9% of the people, who knows something about armwrestling, disagree with your (1st) post.

Maybe maybe not...Im a big fan of John Brzenk my self, but I think he will get some big problems with Samuelsson... don't forget that samuelsson do know abit about armwrestling and he do more than just ordinary strongman training (alot of forearm training). Maybe brzenk would win, and I honestly would love to see that, but Im not sure if thats what would happen.

Once again, lets not forget what was already stated on this board, by no other than former World Champion Bob Brown, who happens to know John Brzenk very well...

In 1996 or so, when Magnus was actually actively armwrestling, he (Magnus) was BEAT by.... Bill Brzenk. That is John Brzenk's brother, who was also an awesome puller, but from what I've seen on videos, always lost to John when they faced in tournaments. (not sure about the exact record, but I've only seen him losing against his older bro, seriously). And Bill was not a heavyweight, his built looked like John's if not smaller from what I've seen in pics/videos. So he was giving up a LOT of weight to Magnus, and I'm willing to bet he wasn't half a strong as Magnus in all powerlifts or Strongman events. Yet he beat him, and according to Bob, he beat him "easily". This said, I have no idea how this debate still keeps going on! :D

yeah brundin read this entire topic m8 which was 15 pages of debate. i still reckon some people are in denial thinking magnus could take on brzenk. IMO though they are both legends at what they do and have ocomplished
