The #3 Challenge Log

Roper

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Today not much gripping. I am really getting frustrated that i can't get it back to less than a 1 cm again..... Today warm up with #1, and did 1 close with left on the #2, and about 14 with #2 RH. no strapholds. Tomorrow maybe.

I'm letting a loading pin getting made in my father's company, so by the end of the week i should have it. I used the PDA loading pin for an example.

Deadlift, 5*215kg. I struggled on the first 3 reps, took a breather and pulled those last two. My goal is to get 220. Last week i did 215 three times, and today it's do or die for 5 reps, i did it, so happy me.

One arm row 8*40

Barbell row 8*110kg

Funny thing happened while doing deads, i broke the bar... Something snapped inside, and the whole damn thing where you put the plates on just fell off the bar :inno

Luckily the owner can get along, so no biggie

Nice deads, man! Maybe the owner`ll by a decent bar this time,eh? Man, 14 reps with the #2! You`re an animal! Don`t get frustrated, think how much you`ve progressed in just about 4 or 5 weeks! You`ll be closing the #4 by the end of 2005.

It`s good you`re getting the loading-pin,too. It really makes life easier.

You go roper! Hope you have got your fortuneteller certificate, cause hell yeah closing #4 would be awesome...

Well, 10 minutes ago i just received my Chocolate Thundah and MOAHS by brookfield. Damn, that's pretty fast. I ordered it sunday, today is thursday, so would did they do, shoot it with a rocket?

One question though, is the RT handle made out of wood??

?? No , it`s steel otherwise, but the outer part of the revolving handle is PVC-plastic. I really like Ironmind`s service and really nice customer service, too. I just wish Strossen wouldn`t be so much of a politician, it`s irritating when you don`t get a straight answer to a straight question. Oh well, you can`t get it all...

I heared he's a bit bureaucratic...

Today i'm trying not to do grippers. Read the book of brookfield, almost finished it. A lot of stuff in it, won't be trying everything though..

Clean and press 1*90kg, never did that before. Have to build up more speed to get under the bar.

Front bb press 4*80

Did some more work for delts, nothing fancy, tris and forearms..

Hey, today i tried my RT, well, it is a nice thing. First i did some squats, stiff deads and forearm word.

Squats 15*150kg Took a long breather on the 11th, got disturbed..Racked it for 30 sec.

Stiff deads, 4 sets nothing fancy.

Forearms, bb wrist curls 12 *50kg

Then i tried my RT. Note, i don't have the loading pin yet. I got a chain, where i put a small plate on the end. Then i got a ring, put it through a pin and then on the RT.

35kg felt easy

45 felt easy

50 still easy

Then i did some shrugs

Inspired by SHRUG

20*100kg

15*130

10*170

5*190

2*200kg

Then i tried 65kg on the RT, that was no go.... Damn. Felt really hard, couldn't even break it,

Got home, now working on grippers. Also no go. Doesn't feel right, hands all fatigued. Gonna get me some contrast baths.

grippers, read an article about jesse marunde. Made sense, so i'll try that. Still have to buy a #4 if i want to start KTA.

http://www.marunde-muscle.com/fitness/askem_grip1.html

Warm up with #1

each hand 8 reps.

#2 I did 5 sets for 2 reps. Left hand, somtimes closed, sometimes less than 0,5 cm. Right hand closed on all attempts.

I did these sets with about 1 minute rest.

#3, one attempt each hand. Both beyond parallel, but not there.

#1 each hand 10 consecutive reps, then contrast baths.

I am trying not to train too much, noticed a strenght decrease. So i will try to do 3 days on 1 off.

after 3 days, go for 5 sets 3 reps, rest and then 5 sets 4 reps, etc..,..

8 singles with #2 right hand! Leftie still can`t do any.

LESSONS LEARNED RECENTLY; I can`t prosper on a continuous routine of high-volume/high-intensity. After I added rest days to about four, there`s been this dramatic increase in performance. In part it`s the fruits of those couple of weeks training KTA-style, but I think it`s only now that the results are beginning to show,as the hands have a change to build that extra strenght. Also, I think that the problem with heavy negatives is,that if you can`t force the gripper all the way down to begin with, it won`t strenghten the close. So,I`ve started doing negatives with the #2 for my leftie, and sets of only partial closes with the #1 to hit the close.

Anyways, seems to work for the time being.

Ah,and I notice that you have joined the Veteran-club as well: :cool

Had a pretty long day at school, boring! Came home at six, took some food and a 30 minute nap ;)

Weight training

Bench 132,5kg 6 reps PR

Incline bench 3*110kg and 1 rep with 120 kg PR (pretty easy, didn't want to push my luck there)

BB curls 5*57,5kg

Dmb curls 5*26kg

Reverse curl 6*47,5

After reading brookfield, i started with plate curls, nice exercise. Did 4 reps with 10kg each hand.

I also like to lever. Strengthen the wrist. I started with some broomstick, and now i am busy levering a snowshovel that weighs about 7lbs. In our house we are not smoking, only in the garage, so everytime a take a smoke, i lever some too... combining the healthy with the unhealthy :blink

Grippers

warm up with #1

RH, 5 sets of 3 reps (went ahead of schedule, should be 2)

LH, close, but not closed 5 sets of 2 reps, errr more like attempts.

cool down 10 reps #1

Hello all,

thursday clean and press. I had a easy rep with 90kg, so i wanted to go for a PR so i tried 100kg, as in 225lbs. I did it! it gave such a rush that i couldn't do barbell front presses..... Excitement, and fatigue...

Today i did some shrugs and forearms

Shrug, 12*160kg

6*190

5*210

Note, i am not writing all my exercises, because i feel it is not worth noting. I am focusing on power and core exercises, the compound stuff, and that's where i am trying to progress at. Rest will follow as everything gets stronger ofcourse..

Grippers,

10 warmups with #1

5 sets of 4 reps with #2 RH (that totals 20 reps, never did that before)

5 sets of 5 Reps with LH

Finish with some #1 repping, 10reps.

I will stay with 4 reps for 5 for this weekend, take one off and see how close i will get on my #3. I'll post a picture of the attempt, because my guess is it will be close... (if not i won't post one :blush ) So wish me luck...

OK,I now have more time. Yes,gripping is going quite nice.I`ve just been depressed for a week,as I again went to see another orthopedist about my right knee that has been hurting for three years now, every time I do anything requiring knee flexion.

I`ve seen 5 GP`s,2 physiotherapists,2 orthopedists,1 chiropractor and 1 physioatrist about this, and in addition the knee has been x-rayed,MRI-scanned,and operated once and my hips have been x-rayed as well. And there is not a single thing wrong with my knee joint! It looks like the healthiest knee in the world, and I have never had an accident with it. But still it hurts like HELL! So everything the modern medicine had to say at the end was:"I really can`t say what`s the matter."

Great,huh? Maybe I should see a voodoo-doctor next.

Anyways;Dutch good luck with the #3 attempt!Psyche yourself well and kill the bastard! :devil

Hi,

My computer is having some trouble, so i have to 'report' from school... :(

Monday i had i really good bench day, wanted to go for a single. I did one rep with 155kg.

Tuesday deadlifts with 5 reps 220kg.. Did them rest-pause.

Yesterday i received my loading pin, so i immediately went to the gym. First my back workout, and then the RT.

I did one single with 62,5... It is really fun, at one point it went too heavy and it feels like it glued to the ground....

At night i did some RT again, holds with 30kg trying for 1 minute... Couldn't get it, forearms were fried....

I wanted to do some grippers, but couldn't even squeeze my store gripper.... :whacked

Maybe tonight i'll have some more luck with grippers

In the weekend did two workouts, going for 5 sets of 4 reps with #2.

Damn Roper, you could almost apply for a discount on all those visits to specialists..... Must be frustrating that you know something is wrong but you can't find out what it is....

I am now able to make 5 sets of 5 reps with #2. Well, it doesn't translate in a #3 close :devil A little less than 0,8 cm or something.... What to do, what to do??? Any suggestions?

Maybe i should be filing them, but wich one first?#1 or #2??

I see your motivation is a little on the downside.... I hope you will feel better soon!

Filed my #2. Yesterday i had a decent workout.

Did 5 sets of 3 reps with #2 filed one. RH

3 closes with #2 lefty

On my RT i have 37,5 kg. I don't have more weight, so i do reps with it. 3 sets of 10 reps, and then a timed hold for as long as i can.

Monday workout

Bench 4 reps with 140kg. PR

Incline bench 4 reps with 120 kg. Also PR....

ANd i did some biceps... Nothing fancy there.

Does it feel a lot different with the filed down gripper? I would suggest that you just continue couple of weeks on the same program, it seems to work so well for you so why change it? And you`re so close to the #3.

And yes, it`s a little "quieter" time for me gripwise;but I`ve experienced these ups and downs of motivation so many times, that I`ve learned to just keep on it, maybe with a little more rest, and the zeal will soon come back.

And hey;let`s think of it this way; we are both stronger in our grips than ever before in our whole lifes, so it`s quite good actually ;)

Thanks for the motivation and tips. Yes, it feels a bit different. I think it is beneficial, because it works my crush. You really mash the gripper that way. (still, i think it is a waste for my #2, but hey, it's all about the #3)

Deadlifts total of 8 reps with 220kg. Did 3 reps, and 5 singles.. (means i took some rest inbetween the 5's.

Barbell row 7 reps with 117,5 kg.

And inbetween gripper like the BBSM.

Strapholds it is than, moon. No money now for new grippers..

Clean and press 4sets of 3 reps with 80kg....

Had a really bad workout, had to use wrist support for my right wrist. I probably dreamt something stupid that made me strenuously cock my wrist against the wall for a few hours..... Ouch!
