FrankyBoy
Thanks alot Gerry. 10/03/2006 Hard Bending session Lesson of today: SHINY BASTARD STOCK IS HARD!!! Warmup: Bench Rowing Curls 4x6mm nail from 90° (former rev. warmup stock) 1. Attempt: 6 1/4" Shiny Bastard: NOTHING but a small kink and nicely hurting middle fingers 2. Attempt 6 1/2" Shiny Bastard: Same kink as above , brought it to 45° in a vice then tried again. Was a long long trip but brought it under 2". 30-40mins. 3. Attempt 5 1/4" x 7.6mm common german nail PR 8mins A bit mind boggling since the crush down was not much easier than with the Big Shiny. FrankyBoy
Thanks Toddel. After the 6 3/8 Shiny I went for a 5" x 7.6mm common nail. Got it to 20° then my indexes gave up. My old nemesis: The kink on short bars. I'm a pussy . Later some heavy negs on Blobs: Gave my 25kg (55#) Blob from Heavy Grip Tools everything 15 (!) times but that beast was glued to the floor. Now my palms look pretty funky from the bending.

bencrush
Hey Franky, wanted to tell you again that it was awesome to finally meet and compete with you at the BBB2! You did a great job man! Very well rounded and definitely handed me my ass all around. I am considering taking your advice and building my bench press strength up to help on the crushdown. After watching your explosive bending and great crushdown-then your advice about the benching-I thought it might help me to test my max and then start the same routine you're on. Question is, what is your max bench these days? I read back to April when you tested and it was 115kg (253) so I'm guessing you're around 300 or pretty close now. FrankyBoy
Ben, it was great to meet you and I have to admit I'm pretty proud that I could win OUR little contest. After the call for the first 5 places I was SURE John messed up the scoresheet since I didn't find any event where I placed better than you. Its a bit sad that I had so little time to talk to most of you guys. Concerning bench vs bending: Even though the absolute bench doesn't neccessarily reflect ones bending strength I'm pretty sure that for an individual with a decent bending form, he WILL increase his bending ability by increasing his benching strength. My bench currently is about 280-290# (good guess btw) limited by my triceps stength which I don't consider that essential for bending. FrankyBoy
Well, BBB2 is over, what a great time I had with all the guys. Special thanks to my hosts Greg Amidon and Chris Rice and their lovely wifes Jonni and Teresa. It was a honour you let me and my girl Heike reside for two days in your homes. Greg drove us over to Chicago and visited a great museum with us. Still can't believe that I was in a german submarine with u. I learned sth about gripper calibration, Greg invented a smart way of measuring the crushing strength of a gripper. He measured all of my grippers I had with me AFTER he let me make my guess on the relative strength of those and his meaurements turned always out to be as close as possible. Chris drove us over to Columbus and we made a (for males) very challenging shopping tour inside one of those unbelievable big malls together with Nick Rosendaul and his wife Andrea. In the evening we met with Doc and his wife Angela, had a great meal in a steakhouse and great fun talking. I'm still recovering but its already much better now, Chris seems to be right about youth and recovery times. I'm pretty happy I got Chris into bending. After a little coaching session concerning upper body position, hand placement and position he started to melt some serious steel without the risk of injuries of his old style. Keep them coming Chris.
