I was also thinking about alternative approaches, one of them requires extra package:

1) cut the hole in cert gripper's package from the back;

2) take out and modify gripper;

3) put the gripper back;

4) glue the back carton from another package to "seal" it.

That's pretty creative.  My method used the existing packaging.  I'll share more about it once I'm successful.  I messed up the first attempt.  I'll have it done later in the week.
