A few years ago I used the slingshot frequently, and I saw three main benefits: 1. As you said, it helps to alleviate shoulder problems. Basically, you don't have to stop benching. 2. If programmed well, it gives you a killer lockout (because it doesn't help much at the lockout part of the lift). 3. The nervous system gets used to bigger weights.
