The Mac
Mobster, Did you use your gloves on the Dinnie ring? If so, how is it going? I read that you were going to try some "Heavy Workmen's Gloves". The type of gloves I had in mind were (if you could get them) the thin leather or wollen ones. Don't know if it would make any difference or not though. mobsterone
Yes and no. Last night I tried super setting leg press with heavy weight dinnie lifts and allowing the skin to recover between attempts helped a lot. I maxed out at 185 kilos plus the handle etc on the dinnie lift and 482.5 kilos on the leg press (x 3). I'll put 2nights w/out on tomorrow. mobsterone
I'm off to the physio today - I've been going every 6 weeks or so so that everything is 100% for training (mostly lower back and shoulder massage and manipulation). Thursday session: Thick handled dumbbell (2 big a jump) 135 kilos x 4 attempts ( ) Weaver stick L/H I could barely move the bar plus 3.25 kilos (23.16 lbs total) R/H another 1.5 inches along the broomstick (loaded with 7.5 kilos) One hand Pinch L/H to 25 kilos x 3 x 1 (55 lbs) R/H to 33.5 kilos (81 lbs) NB: all lbs inc bar and collar weights There's about 6-7 weeks to go and I'm on target for my numbers. mobsterone
What a session. I actually felt faint after even though I'd had the day off and prepared well (I have a slight oral infection which may have affected me). Started with: Dinnie Lift: Left hand to 142.5 kilos (321 lbs total) 5 kilos over target. Right hand to 195 kilos (436 lbs total) again 5 kilos over target. Leg Press To 482.5 kilos (1063.7 lbs) x 4 reps and no spot. Bench machine To 52.5 kilos a side (bench is a weak point for me) One hand deadlift using 2" thick bar (partials in rack today) Left hand to 25 kilos a side x 3 x 1 Right hand to 36.5 kilos a side x 3 x 1 Finished with Two hand deadlift with 2" thick bar (again partials in rack) To 320 kilos (705.4 lbs)* *on last few singles felt a little faint. mobsterone
Thursday grip session: Thick handled dumbbell: 300.1 lbs x 4 x attempts and 1 successful lift (frigged around with set up - annoys me) Weaver Stick L/H to 2 x 1 x ez bar and 3.25 kilos (23.16 total) R/H as before but another inch closer (couldn't reproduce effort so only 1 rep) One hand Pinch L/H to 26 kilos 3 x 1 (64.1 lbs total) R/H to 35 kilos 3 x 1 (84.6 lbs total) I adjusted the set up so I could get my fingers more on the plates and did 3 very hard singles with both top weights. 1) I may drop thick handled dumbbell in last 2 weeks and 2) I may also stop writing down the poundages in the last 2-3 weeks (don't want to give to much away to the competition eh?) mobsterone
Phew!! A little change made all the difference Thick handled dumbbell 300.1 lbs (132.5 plus) x 4 attempts = 1, 0, 0, 1 (as usual spent way too long getting setup right) Weaver Stick LH to 3.25 kilos over ez bar weight (moving up next time) = 23.16 lbs RH to 4.25 kilos etc = 25.37 lbs Pinch (this is where a slight adjustment made all the difference - see after) LH to 31 kilos+ (approx 75 lbs) RH to 36 kilos+ (86.36 lbs). All I did was adjust the setup I had been using to allow my fingers to get further down the plates. Previously I had been using/pinching 2 x 5 kilo plates - about 3/4 of an inch each and only 7 or so inches across in total. With the rod throught the centre and the inner collars tight against the plates I was only getting 2/3 of my fingers down and they would hit the collars. By moving one of the collars and allowing my fingers more room to get down (I allowed the plates to move on the rod) I could get 90% of my fingers and thumb down and so get a better pinch grip. Note the massive difference this made to the LH poundage - I had 27 kilos+ as my target (66.52 lbs) and did 4 kilos more!!
gazza
Steve You have to learn to pinch with the hand and not just the fingers. Better get your Ass into gear,i here Nick M has gone over 200k. I also hear David has hurt his back again, hope it heals well DAVID,as if someones gonna try and take your title, atleast take it when your fully fit,of coarse Mobster,Jim,Nick and the rest will still have there work cut out,if your not fully fit,but the victory is much sweeter when there are no excuses. Not that im writing you off Dave, but i am picking the underdog Mobster to do the honours this year. Steve how comes ya still usin the thick D?BELL and not the bar ya got off,of Stan Pyke.
mobsterone
Cos I use that on Tuesday and I gotta enjoy myself. I have also read Nick's log (see Saturdays post). I don't think I've got too much to worry about. We're both real close on everything except pinch grip where he is equalling David Horne's old record. So he wins one event... :p
mobsterone
Oh my aching elbows. Doing the dyno work the way I do irritates the nerve so that I get mild, thank god, tennis elbow. Anyway - I'd normally train grip on Thursdays but I have a prior social arrangement (re beer drinking) and so did grip this am and will train again tonight (ouch!) Thick Handled dumbbell - as before -300.1 lbs x 3 x 1 plus failure. Weaver Stick - all on 16 lbs ez bar L/H to an attempt with 3.5 - wouldn't budge. R/H to an attempt with 4.25 - as above and damn did it hurt Pinch - much better L/H to 32.5 kilos!! (approx 78.5 lbs) R/H to 36.5 x 2 x 1 easyish and then an attempt or three with 37.5 (failed)
Jonathan McMillan
Mobsterone, I get the elbow irritation as well with some grip activities. I found the cold/hot alternating showers worked great but then I didn't want to acclimitize to it and loose the effect so I don't do it all the time. Have you found anything that helps it? I figure if I can find a few things then I can rotate through them. Jon@han
