nockowt1
Do you have a pic or vid of how you use the spacer?
CoC#3
i think some of the pics from the british iron grip 2007 show it in action, i'll see if i can dig these up in a sec... what i mean by 'using the spacer' is setting a gripper, then inserting a 20mm block between the handles to ensure the set is just wider than parallel and then close the gripper. It is harder because it requires a pause of the gripper and takes some of the explosive power away that can be generated from merging the set and the close if you like. The reaosn i am doing a lot of training with the spacer is that this is how grippers will be contested in May. Last year i did not prepare well and did very little work with the spacer and was only able to close an easy #3 rated at 2.96 with each hand. CoC#3
8pm 11/01/08 FBBC hard gripper came yesterday. So i played with that for a while,. I rate it around 3.6. Came within about 2-3mm of a close LH. Disappointed to not close it. Usual #3 closes inserting spacer. MM1 closes inserting spacer. 2 hand pinch tore my thumb webbing. rolling thunder, thumbless new pr of 97.5kg LH and 95kg RH (inc weight of pin/handle) got 100kg clear of the floor with both my LH and RH loads of reps/volume with 90kg, and 85kg. Very happy with this, especially after aweful grippers and pinch.
The Mac
8pm 11/01/08Very happy with this, especially after aweful grippers and pinch. The two may not be unrelated. Glad to see you seem to be over your cold!

CoC#3
cheers lads - i was quite happy with those lifts. Maybe i can add 20kg before the comp, i have only done 3 workouts with the RT in this manner so far. I am buying a new RT aswell to train on. Mine isn't exactly stiff but it doesn't feel new anymore either. today i had a great session, trained after work instead of before for a change, 13/01/08 8am-10am loads of arm work including ez bar curls with 45kg for a few sets of 15 and some concentration curls. thumbless RT warmups then loaded 95kg inc pin, handle and made 6 out of 10 attempts with my LH and 2 out of 10 attempts with my RH. The failed ones wer very close. loaded 100kg, got some air with my LH. I WANT 100KG BADLY!!!! went down to 90kg and did a few more reps with each hand did a few more at 85kg. did a few with 65kg. rear levering when i mop the floor at work do some rear levering with that over the sink - i mop every morning at 4:30am and do my levering with the end drenched with water so it is heavier. I need to get a weaver stick made up though so i can train this properly. also did some stuff with 8lb sledge vice gripper a few closes RH, higher rep mainly for a pump. LH is too torn up to do grippers of any sort.
The Mac
Sam, I made my Weaver Stick set up in less than 5 minutes - all you really need is a tape measure to get the correct length and something to cut the notch at one end. Hell, you don't even really need the length to be correct to get a useable training tool - that is what Maths are for.
odin
Sam, you're on a Rolling Thunder ROLL! Big numbers and still rising ever higher! Edited January 13, 2008 by odin
TAT 70
Trainings going well mate When Mobster showed us the weaver stick he used an e-z bar.U can get them from Argos for about £5.
Paul Savage
ive got a bar with a handle on from work now, but you can just use a power rack pin too, they may not be long enough but will still train the event well with the use of standard plates an a lock - wouldn't recommend using it without wraping up where you grip though, bruised up my palm pretty bad
CoC#3
thanks for the tips got 4 days off work - paid holdiay. Going to make the most of this and get some hard training in. 4am 15/01/08 GRIPPERS - RH, 7 closes of the MM1. 3 closes of the #3. reps with a #2 hammar sports VICE GRIPPER 9,7,5 for reps and overcrushes can't push this hand as i can't set grippers because my setting finger is torn up nicely! LH, no sets of #1.5 and #2 MM1 closes, didn't count how many FBBC HARD x 1 #4 to 1/4'', 3/8'' (crap) 2 finger work (ring/pinky now have tears that have opened up again, lol...) - #2x5, #2x6, #2 no sets missed by a fraction hammar sports VICE GRIPPER - up to an overcrush on 11,8,6 (lost a bit strength here but felt solid) hands are strong at the moment but old skin tears are holding me back and i am still too immature to know that a few days off grippers would do me good, ha ha... mobsterone
Tape them up then. I suffer from the same 'immatureness' and so use squares of tissue or zinx oxide tape to protect my hands. I've three small cuts / tears right now.
CoC#3
I read in your log you use the squares of tissue on some 2 hand pinch singles. Do you ever do any gloved 2 hand pinch Steve?
mobsterone
I did a little just before the xmas event. Warmup sets only. Indeed on the day I got a gloved and towel covered but hard 80-kilos. There is more benefit from keeping the hands warm IMO.
CoC#3
Agreed. I wear woolen gloves for about half an hour before grippers/pinch - my hands have def. felt more 'warm' at the start of a session.
CoC#3
10pm 15/01/08 MILITARY PRESS 50kg for 4 sets of 7. GRIPPERS LH - 12 reps on the #2 (no set) for 2 sets using a square of tissue to protect my skin tears. Felt good. 3 sets of 5 with 2 fingers on the #2. 1 set of the vice gripper on an easy setting. RH - A few reps with the MM1 wider set, again with a square of tissue to protect skin tears. 3 sets of 10 with the #2. (wide set) THUMBLESS RT worked up to 95kg with LH and Rh (inc weight of pin etc...) - no PRs but the RH lift was extremely solid here and didn't feel like it was going to slip loads of singles with 85kg with each hand. Hold at lockout etc... 85kgx3, 85kgx3 Going to take a few days off this lift and shoot for 100kg next time i feel 'on' PINCHING Still suffering with webbing tears (they are recovering) so did wide pinch as it is better than nothing. 5x5kg plates x full DL 4x5kg lifts with 2 and 3 fingers etc...
