mobsterone
True. I think you'll be hard pushed to find any current competition organizer or promoter who's made a buck/euro/quid from putting on any event grip related whatsoever. I've been very fortunate in the past to have made a few from shows and via the heavy initial sales of my gripper e-book. But from putting on the British?? Not a penny. As per the above what we need is, at least to begin with, free promotional/marketing type help from someone with expertise in that area. Whether it's blog and e-zine layouts, posters and promotion of competitions or marketing of athletes... we need a certain flair to whet the taste buds of fellow strength nuts (those that watch WSM etc) and then to broaden the appeal. Because we are so involved at a grass roots level it can be very difficult for us to see where any such problems lay. We need the eye of an expert in marketing to look at not so much 'do they like what we do' as 'how can I make this appealing to others'. One earlier idea suggested is a DVD/documentary. Even a short hi-res promotional video via youtube would be a start. Something in sepia with lots of chalk, torn skin, gritted teeth and so on with a dramatic hard rock background topped by some deep voice to get the juices going. Check the short clips from professional looking (roid related) Bigger, Faster, Stronger for an idea. Look at StrongmanTVas well. Good solid editing and cutaways helps. Lines like 'from your backyard gym to the WSM stage grip is important' would be picked up by trainees. Some beefy forearms as well wouldn't go amiss. mobsterone
You might be right. The set up was not 6-kilos. We have a much heavier pin (ours is solid and not a 2" hollow one like tgat used here) than the one they used there and our total set up with handle, loading pin and clip weighs 5.4-kilos. I'd say there's was around 4-kilos. The weights were as they have been stated just not in order of who won. If I am correct I did 95 + about 4-kilos for 99 left handed and 100 + about 4-kilos for 104 right handed which gives a total of 203-kilos and not the 207 kilos shown. unequipped
the hollow loading pin (2 inch) plus the rolling thunder ist 3 kg. i dont know, why not adding 2,5 kg to the weight of the plates? an expert should ask hermann korte.

They didn't add the weight because it would have confused the loaders. It's worth mentioning that 5 languages were being spoken on the day. Plus if it was 3kilos why add 2.5kilos?? Hubgeezer
Well, now that I have looked at the numbers, I think congratulations are approprito EVERYONE! Very fine performances by every single person. For the record, I did the math on what I think I would have done based on where I am now, being realistic, and not "hoping or dreaming or wishing or exaggerating", and found that I would have finished, just barely, in 11th place. My hat is off to all of you! Mike
