British Iron Grip 2007

Just got back to my hometown in Surrey, lower back a bit stiff and hands are pretty fried, but otherwise im feeling good and buzzing from picking up 2nd place in the Novice class. The trophy is amazing, and is now my most prized possesion, i will have to build a glass cabinet for it.

My moments where i felt like a shined, were the 2HP and the Vbar, lifting 77.75kg and 134kg respectively, but in both i felt like i had more in the tank but ran out of attempts. It was a big learning experience for me, having never done the 1 hand deadlift before i think my technique was somewhat unorthodox, but the lifts i did 190/185 kg i felt very pleased with and got a really good buzz doing it. Im gonna have to set myself up with this type of equipment now so i can set some new PR's before the next competition.

It was great to meet all the lads, i thought the atmosphere there was something else, really exciting stuff, i will definately be coming back next year.

Thanks to all the organisers for putting on such a good day,

Pete

One hand lift - one hand deadlift is different (and harder ha ha). Glad you liked the trophy. I asked Duncan (winner of novice) 'nice to win eh?' and he said 'I've never won anything before - it's great!'.

My hands are pretty fried but stupidly I got small cut from moving my freezer after the competition! Nuts or what??

Had a great day yesterday, messed up a couple of events but came good when i needed it. All the lads were great, some huge lifts and impressive grip strength all round. Mike, Loz and Harry did an amazing job loading which was far more tiring than what we did. Great reffing by Nick and great to watch two top athletes in Steve and David going head to head. I'm trying to trawl through some of the footage I have and pick out some good bits and I'll get them up on youtube. I look forward to going against the top guys next year in the opens, cus I thought i did ok with just the 3 months all in all grip training I had done but given another year and with the aid of my iron grip pinch dvd i won ;) i hope to get more impressive numbers next year.

Well I'm totally knackered right now, ache everywhere, and have slowly done my jobs and now want to relax for the rest of the day.

Anyway, a big thank you to Steve from promoting a great comp, Nick for reffing and to the loaders (Loz, Mike and Harry). I've done that job many times before and it's a tiring, thankless job, but without them we wouldn't have a contest.

Also a big 'Get well' to Chris James, hope the injury is not as bad as first feared.

All the competitors in the Novice field did very well, and produced some great lifts and will be a welcome attibute to next years open contest. My word of advice to these men is to get in a full balanced workout for say each 12-16 weeks period. I wish you well.

The open field was super strong, and my same advices goes out to the new contest guys like Sam, Jose, Jorge and even Chris (when he's back). Andy is well seasoned already and no doubt knows what he's doing now - good to see you again. It was also nice to meet Mike, you did Geezer's proud, and I will be one soon.

I want to leave a sentence for Steve. He was the best I've ever seen him on saturday, strong mentally and physically. I always tell him what I think, and he did himself proud. He trained perfectly for it, and he deserved to win. We shall have another go next year.

It was great meeting up with everyone, and I'm looking forward to the GGC now, back to training tomorrow.

I want to thank Steve for organizing a brilliant day and comp, the loading boys for all the hard work , Nick for his judging two events at the same time and me asking him questions all the time!!! , and David for his kindness (my son Daniel was very impressed with David breaking all the ice in his bare hands, also he said in the car on the way home "Gosh dad, that Steve Gardner is big, dad , i want to be his size when i grow up")

It was great meeting everybody and putting names to faces and i 'm looking forward to next year.

I hope Mike , Gorge and Jose get home safely (they got to the comp easier than i did and they came from USA and Spain !!!)

Congratultions to David on his 10th incredible win and to Steve who has one of the strongest hands on the planet and to all the other competetors.

Unfortunately the bicep tendon snapped and took part of the bone with it , i have to go to fracture clinic on Monday. My wifes not happy , she wants me to do the garden !!!

Thanks for all the support.

Chris

PS.... Best of luck to Elizabeth for Monday, we will be watching Friday.
