don chi
I"m going to start my grip log with my workout tomorrow. Writing this so I will definitely start it seeing as I've been meaning to for a month and a half.
don chi
2/26/06 Grippers #1 2x5 each hand for a warmup #2 closed 11 out of 12 with the right did 12 negs with the left closed most down to about 1/8" before forcing extensors 3x8 with thick rubber bands Pinch grip (4x4) 25 lbs. both hands 35 lbs. both 45 lbs. missed both switched hands with 25 lbs. 35x wrist curl 3x10x70 reverse wrist curl 3x10x40 Pinch grip is pretty weak hope to improve it some. I'm really concentrating on crush though. I'm focusing on closing a #3 (like everyone else who can't). I feel fairly confident on the #2 so I think I will purchase a #3 for some negatives. Sticking with the #2 for my left, pretty darn close to slamming that shut. Now I have to try throwing a baseball with my son, should be interesting. don chi
Just curious about some opinions. I've been working grip since January and started with the coc #1 then made it to the #2 in February. Moving to the #3 now seems kind of quick even though I'm closing the #2. Is two months long enough to condition the hands for such a jump? I'm just wondering if any one has any experience with such a situation. don chi
3/2/06 Thursday grip machine 2x8x75 two hands 20 two handed singles w/125 alternated hands for negatives 10 each hand extensors 3x8 with thick rubber bands Two handed pinch grip (4x4) 50x1 60x1 70x1 80x1 90x1 levering front 2x8x8 rear 2x8x10 rotate 2x8x5 90 lbs on two handed pinch was heavy man. I can't believe you guys do it one handed, god bless ya. Hands are feeling stronger every day. Did some serious land clearing yesterday hauling different size logs around. I thought my hands would be tired but they felt good. I think I will start to post my other workouts on here too. Hopefully it will inspire my weights to go way up as they are pretty measely. There's no need to jump to the #3 yet anyway, take down the Super Master first.
don chi
3/7/06 Tuesday grippers coc #2 rt hand- 2x2 3x1+1assisted close(just missed) 2 singles left hand-8 assisted singles(back of hand a little sore) rt hand- #1 2x10 extensors 3x8 thick rubber bands pinch grip (4x4)- two hands 50x1 65x1 75x1 85x1 95x1 20 lb hex block tossed back and forth until dropped 1x9 1x6 1x9 wrist curls 3x8x75 reverse wrist curls 3x8x45 Left hand started to get sore across the back and crush felt a little off on both hands. I guess it was just one of those nights. Might start to do more reps one night a week instead of heavy singles. Work has been keeping my hands busy lately so maybe that may account for the fatigue. Oh well quit whining and get to it right? I think I will follow Left sides advice and invest in a BBSM as opposed to killing myself with a #3 all the time. A lot of veterans here seem to have taken that route and they sure didn't get that strong by accident.
don chi
3/9/06 Overhead squats 1x12x empty bar 1x10x10 1x10x25 Regular squats 4x12x125 Bench press 5x8x120 Barbell row 1x12x75 1x10x85 1x8x95 1x6x105 1x10x75 I felt pretty tired, almost skipped it tonite. Said screw it and did it anyway. I felt strong after warming up.so the workout went pretty good. My legs are finally getting a little more strength in 'em. Long way to go but feel confident short term goals will be met. The left hand is feeling real good, must have been a weird night the other night. Might still try going a little easier next workout we will have to see. I just have to remember it is a marathon not a sprint.

I got a pain in the back of my hand about a year ago that put me out of crush for a month, it started the same way. It's your extensors, do elastic band expansions, and contrast baths every day until you can workout without soreness. If you work seriously at it now you can kill it before it becomes a serious injury. And get that Super Master as soon as possible, I promise you will love it (It's a nice strength level, not too hard, not too easy), and you will love the knurling. I know I do. Plus it's the way to get from the #2 to the #3.
don chi
Thanks Left side, your advice is much appreciated. Thanks for your time man. I will definitely be getting that gripper soon. The hand is feeling real good but I'm still gonna try the stuff you said just to be sure. 3/11/06 grip machine left and right hand seperate 1x10x25 1x10x37.5 1x8x45 Rt hand 3x8x50 Lt hand 3x8x45 extensors 3x10x medium-thick bands pinch grip (4x4) two hands 50x1 70x1 80x1 90x1 missed twice? hmmm 25 lbs passed back and forth 31 times levering front- 1x8x10 1x8x8 back-2x8x13 rotate-2z8x7.5 The failure with the pinch suprised me because I felt pretty good. Taking a break from heavy negs on the grip machine was good. Still got a good burn. Will probably start working extensors more often taking Left sides advice. Lever felt good, have a long way to go before bending. Don't want to start out the gate with too much going on.
Left Side
You're bending until you reach a certain lever goal? That is a very intelligent approach. I had no such patience as you.
don chi
I figure I should try to pace myself somewhat. Bending sounds like it would be a lot of fun but I think I'll put it off for a while. 3/13/06 Monday Overhead Squat 1x12x empty bar 1x12x10 1x12x25 Regular Squat 4x10x130 Bench Press 1x10x100 1x6x120 1x4x145 1x2x165 Barbell Rows 5x10x85 Workout felt good suprisingly. I was dog tired from a busy day. Really glad I got up off the couch and headed to the garage.
Left Side
Bending is a lot of fun, and you are strong enough to start if you wish, just go slow and train smart.

The pain in the left is gone. Doing light extensor work on all off nights(thanx Left). The main goal is of course the #3. Second goal is 150 two handed pinch. I want to hit the bending eventually, but want to hit other goals first. Or at least get some more conditioning time in.

Felt real good today after the little rest. Yesterday gave my hands a break with a day off of work and training. Hands felt real fresh and felt strong. Just about got that 100 lbs pinched but gotta be honest with myself that way it will feel much better when I clear it completely. The EZ curls with the gloves may have made a difference with the grippers by keeping my hands warm. Equipment gets pretty damn cold in the garage. I'm going to use it as my standard warmup to see if it makes a difference.

Hands, wrists, and forearms are totally fried tonite. Felt pretty good. I'm starting to think that I will have to restructure my program to help out my pinch. I might put grippers on their own nights. They are my main goal after all. It's really tough to improve on everything at the same time, but it sure is fun trying. I will also start splitting grippers and pinch to see if my pinch improves. I'm wondering how to mix them in together. Combining legs and grippers one day and Pinch by itself perhaps? Anybody who happens to stop by is very, very welcome to add opinions and input.

Well, I don't do any of that split routine stuff, but if you want to work lower body on a different day, I'd suppose it'd be okay to work grippers then, and I also work pinch on separate days than grippers mostly. don chi
I know what you're saying Tim, I much prefer whole body sessions. My problem is time. Shorter workouts more frequently are much better for me timewise. Thanks alot for the input, Bud. 3/28/06 Tuesday EZ Curls 1x1235 2x12x40 Grippers Right hand Left hand 2x5x#1 2x5x#1 1x2x#2 1x1x#2- 1/8" off 1x1x#3 to parallel 8 forced singles w/ #2 4 forced singles w/ #3 1x5x#1 1x2x#2 just missed 2nd 2 forced singles w/ #2 1x17x#1 extensors 3x15x medium bands 2x12x manual resistance First workout with the #3 and man was it tough!! Hopefully in 6 months I can look back and wonder why it was so hard. Trying to hold that thing closed was like holding back a damn lion. The funny thing was once I started killing my right my left responded like it was scared to death. I came 1/8" or closer just about every time on the #2. Definite progress! First shot at deads in years! Making slow and steady progress for the most part. Things are going to start getting busy so I have to remain disciplined. My sons baseball season starts soon in addition to his hockey, but I'm sure it will work out. Looking foward to hitting the #3 tomorrow. I have to fit it between my sons early hockey practice and my daughters birthday party. An understanding wife is extremely important!!!! don chi
Been torn up a bit lately with a couple of nearly ruptured eardrums. Lack of appetite killed me. Today was 4/10 and I messed around with some singles with the #1, about 15 each hand. I also did 4 sets of extensor work. Massive, I mean massive loss of strength. It will probably be a slow road back.
