the swiss
I see issues with the v-bar, were skin state is crucial. Also I am not sure training vbar with gloves will be so good because good v-bar lifting comes from finding the perfect position in your hand, and lifting with gloves might teach you a wrong groove. Also, Franky: you should put the effort on your weak points, not your strong points (IMO).
FrankyBoy
David, assuming one has already developed a perfect technique with the vbar. Then his lift depends just on the stength he 'squeezes' the vbar, or? And that you should be able to train with the gloves since the friction is worse than barehanded. I will do both: gloves lift on the vbar and bare-handed attempts but the gloves definately prevent myself from any skin loss as in my pinch workouts. And there we already saw good results, didn't we? My weak point are the grippers, btw !!!! And as I mentioned earlier, I currently can't do max singles on grippers righty so I looked for something else and thats the volume approach. FrankyBoy
Thanks Toddel. 07/04/05 Gripper Volume Workout using the Trainer !Ouch! Day 3 of week 1 of the the gripper volume workout. I'm starting to hate that program of beavis and butthead. FrankyBoy
Skin in the palms burns even when just doing a simple fist. A Rocky Mountains of callouses is growing in the centre of the palm. I'm working a lot with Arnica oil on my hands. Oh man, and later the day I have to do the next session.

FrankyBoy
So are your hands still alive Franky. ← Not really. 07/05/05 Pinch & Grippers Good news first: Grippers on volume doesn't affect my pinch. I got a new PR in the 2-hand pinch, so volume grippers and pinch, that fits. Holds with Gloves 1. Step: Exact calibration of the pinch apparatus setup. Warmup 2x31,5 1x51,6 1x61,5 Workout 75kgx1s (PR) just broke off the ground After that I immediately tried my new 20kg Hampton plate and did a hub-lift the 22kg (48.5lb). Here's the vid: 22kg hub lift 70kgx5s 65kgx9s 60kgx14s 55kgx21s Standing Wrist Curls with Pinch Apparatus 1x7x51,5kg 1x9x46,5kg Gripper Volume with Trainer Wenn doing other grip exercise before the grippers Greg and I agreed to not go too far with the grippers. Day 4 of week 1 L: 42, R: 70, Tough to do the grippers directly after the pinch. Next time I'll better split the workouts. So I made a pause, ate my dinner and continued the gripper workout afterwards: L: 50,58,60,50 R: 90,100,90,86 Overall Left: 260 Right: 436 Hands are really on fire during the sets. Righty the fingers hurts, lefty the palm. Quite interesting. The harderst part is to open the gripper after the very last rep.

the swiss
wow!! good news about the pinch, and congrats on the pr! scary stuff. about Vbar and gloves: I see your point, but for me, technique, placement and friction are so crucial I think adding something between hand and bar would ruin it. I don't have this problem with the pinch, but then again maybe that one of the reasons my pinch is so bad (no technique?!)
Mikael Siversson
I personally don't find the v-bar to be a very technical lift. This is well exemplified by the fact that I pulled 125k lefty first time I ever touched one (the original LGC v-bar). Three years later, I still have not pulled more than 140k lefty in training (quite a bit more with my right hand though). If I just grab the bar from above, without thinking about placing it in a specific spot in the hand, I can still easily pull within 10 per cent of my max. I think v-bar is mainly a test of hand strength in combination with wrist flexibility and pain tolerance. DO benders are probably at a disadvantage here as their bending style does not promote wrist flexibilty anywhere near the same level as in DU and reverse style bending. Most of the top 10 in the v-bar record list are not DO benders.
FrankyBoy
07/06/05 Active Rest Did a little (Finger) extensor work and some sledge rotations. Furthermore I treated my right elbow with some icy water baths and massages. Felt really good afterwards.

Last v-bar workout was just 5 days ago. Even with gloves the skin needs more time to really heal. I have found that 7 days rest was still not enough so I added yet another day. FrankyBoy
Thanks for the hint guys!! I really appreciate your help. I will do 7 full days of rest now between the vbar workouts. Theres only one weak point and thats right under the middle finger in my palm. Luckyly this area isn't effected neither in the pinch nor by the grippers.
