The Ironmind gripper closing poundage rate is measured from a different point on the handle than where the Beefs are measured. The Gripboard figured it was a better thought to go by wire sizes, spring depth set and handle spread, to determine the toughness of a gripper and where they may line up

Hubgeezer
I'm having a HG100-HG300 (almost no difference between HG100 and HG150), I aslo have the CoC#1 and CoC#2 but I would like something that falls in between HG250/CoC#2 and my HG300. Does the BBSM fall in between the CoC#2 and my HG300 or is it about the same as my HG300? Regards ← My understanding of your preference sounds like you want something between an Iron Mind #2 and an HG300. I presume your HG250 is easier than your IM #2. I presume also that your HG300 is newer, and therefore a "tougher" one than they had been running, which would make it around a 2.75 by my estimate. I had heard from someone on this board that his HG300 was easier than my SuperMaster when he gave it a squeeze. My new HG300(purchased May of 2005) was, as I said, a 2.75, maybe 2.80. Here are your options: Beef Builders Super Master, which has been reported from being a 2.2 to 2.7. My opinion of mine is that it is a 2.4. PDA 262, which prides themselves on accuracy, and it was targeted to be exactly between a 2 and a 3. I call mine a 2.3. RB210, which I have the experience of two. I have a seasoned one acquired via trade that I call a 2.2 to 2.3. On Saturday, I tried an unseasoned one, never really used, that I failed to close, 1/32 of an inch away. That would make it a 2.75-2.8, as that very day, I easily closed my favorite gripper, my Super 2, which I rate a 2.6. In terms of surest thing, and easiest to get, I would lean towards the BBSM. Your last option would be to go with a RB240N(narrow), which might translate into the mid to high 2s, and or go with a Beef Builders Grand Master that was designed to be narrower spread. and you might get to the mid 2s. porkchop
I agree with Hubgeezer. My BBSM is between my 2005 IM #2 and 2005 IM #3. I also have a BBGM which is between my BBSM and the #3. acorn
Paul, thanks for compiling this list. It's really helping me plan. I can't afford to buy the wrong grippers, or too many needless grippers. Thanks My question is regarding my 2006 CoC2 versus my 2006 HG300. I feel like they are very close, where others have the HG300 compared to their BBGM, which is harder than a #3. I really don't think I just gained enough strength that I didn't notice I jumped all those grippers. Is it possible I just got a crap HG300? The spread is barely 2.5", which was also disappointing. I don't think it seasoned yet, because right now I only have about 20 attempts on the HG300. My question is how I can figure this out? The bathroom scale thing didn't really work for me. I suppose I could buy a CoC3 and see where I'm at... The HG stuff that I have seems to be be all over the place poundage wise. My hg300 is between my BBSM and #3 based on the bath scale and calcs it was around 2.8 and the bbsm 2.5 But I also have a HG350 that is exactly the same pressure wise as the HG300 because of the mounting and spread. When you used the scale what readings do you get with the HG300? I think mine was around 162lbs and my #3 was a bit over 170lbs for comparasion. pdoire
Go to the BB's...the Hg's as Aaron has said can vary WIDELY. A BBSM by wire is a 2.7 and a GM is a 3.0 Practical experience has showed that a BBSM can vary from 2.4 to 2.8 and the GM from 2.6 to tougher than a 3. So my BBGM is a bit tougher than my BBSM which was a "Cert" gripper from Warren Tetting...so it is a 2 3/4 spread with a flush mount...another words right where it should be. The BBGM should be a 3 (it is the same wire size) but spread, mounting depth and steel composition can all make a difference. Grippers VARY..not because they want too it is part of the manufacturing process, they would cost far more to be made to more exact tolerances. Good Luck!!
