MattM
What contest do you and Kelly have coming up? Nice work with those trees. Haha thanks Mike! I'm going to be competing at Iron Battle of The Mississippi In Iowa this Saturday, and Kelly's training for the Winkler Harvest Festival in Canada in three and a half weeks. I have a couple questions about what weight I should open with on the dumbbell press, I'll try and drop a line your way tomorrow if you have time! carusom1
Cool. Anytime... Also, I forgot to tell you when adding to your lockout deadlift. Snatch-grip Dead. So, that makes: High Rack Pulls Dimel Deadlifts Snatch-grip Deadlifts

MattM
Mike: thanks! Where would you suggest I put these lifts in my training? I plan on training the yoke, a carry medley and squats Tuesday, and car deadlift, wheelbarrow carry and keg carry & load Saturday. I can put them anywhere you think is best! Kelly: You put this up fast, thanks man!! carusom1
It's difficult to implement the accessory dead while training for a comp. When you're on a regular schedule (non-contest specific), you can do the high rack pulls, followed by the snatch grip or pause deadlift, and then dimel. MattM
CONTEST SUMMARY 1st Place in 231lb class at the Iron Battle of the Mississippi, qualified for nationals. Max Circus Dumbbell Press, 3 attempts: opened with 185 and hit it, went for 195 and hit it, then had a narrow miss at 205. I had won this event with my first attempt, but wanted a PR. I could have tried 205 again but had another pressing event next and saved my energy. 195 x 1 Circus Dumbbell 205 x near miss
MattM
CONTEST SUMMARY (continued) Log Medley: Clean and press four 240 logs starting at 10" diameter and going up to 14" diameter. Keg Carry & Load, 3 kegs for 10ft weighing 230, 260, 290 to a platform about 30 odd inches high and stood up: Took a bit over 18 seconds to finish, I forget the exact time. Time to beat was a bit over 25 seconds. I really had a good time, I came ready and met some really great guys from Jakked Hardcore Gym. I also got interviewed after I won the first three events but I don't know who the interview was for!

Looks like training is going well for all of you. Haha thanks Mike! We had almost 20 min to warm up so that helped, plus the first lift I did was 145 because I didn't have a clue what the big dogg DB they used weighed unloaded and without the lid. I found it much easier to press with the lid on and hit 175 before we even started! :p. All of us qualified, but I'm not sure if Kelly can make it because he told me there was some work conflicts . Very inspiring stuff, exactly what I want to do someday. Oh and a 14 inch log, wtf!?!? I didn't even know they made those, 240 on that thing is killer! Keep hammering your basic lifts and you will be well on your way! Once you are comfortable start including events you think you need work on and it comes together. Also if you have an axle I would suggest you use that instead of a bar... Pretty soon it's going to hurt like hell!
