FrankyBoy
Yes it was the first time a seriously attempted a Red. I knew I should be able to get a G8 down without too much effort before I can even think of doing a Red. Since I bent even the 5.5" G8 yesterday, David meant its time to go for the Red. Well, I felt really uncomfortable with it due to the length of the Red. 7" vs the 6" and 5.5" stock I'm usually using for my workouts. I always had just too much respect to try a Red. Sometimes I wrapped it, put it into position and devoutly put it away again. Even yesterday I told Amaury (a great guy!!) and David that I'm for sure will not be able to bend a Red. They convinced me that this is just a mental block and that I can do it. So I went for it and it kinked on my first try. I was so happy with it that there was no more left. I'm sure that I'll very soon be able to bend one in total. Especially since I already bent so many prekinked Reds. Even the 30 degrees Red was down in much less that a minute. Ok, doing this with the IM pads ist just another story. But I crushed down some Reds with the IM pads too, so I've at least an idea. I'll post some vids of my bends soon. Nice job on the bends. Was that the first time you tried a red that wasnt prekinked? I have not even tried a red yet, and I wont be untill I can take down the blue on a regular basis. ←

Jeff Parker
I was feeling very blue today, so i decided to try one Sucess! The blue nail finally went down! Took about 30 seconds to! It was not with the IM pads though, I used some imitation leather I had laying around. I will try and get some real leather today for further use. By the way, the bend was closem to 1/2" off center. The crush down was plenty hard! Edited February 10, 2005 by Strongmantobe
FrankyBoy
Excellent!! Fast and off-centre so there still something more in you. Not long time ago I found the crush down of a blue hard too. But you'll adapt very very fast, believe me. In no time you will wonder how you could ever think a blue is hard in the crush down. Congrats man. Time to get some G5s! I bet you can already kink one! Keep up the good work.
FrankyBoy
Some volume work. I'm pausing a bit with DO due to a numb area on my left index finger. (where the nail runs over the last joint) I hope that the nerv will reinnervate soon. Good opportunity to train my DU bending. I focussed on the kink since this one is still weak. My crush down is far ahead of this. My goal is to achive at least a 30 degree kink so that the whole bend is considered as a DU bend. I bent: 11x6,0mm 2xYellow 3xBlue 2x7mm 2x7mm hard (not a fully kinked) 2xG5 (not fully kinked) My limit for a 30 degrees kink is around the Blue. The G5 was 12,5 degrees. I really have to work the kinking part!
Jeff Parker
How do you know what kind of bolt is a G5? Since I do have a lot of the IM stock, do you think I should start cutting off a half inch or so on the blues after I can take them down on a regular basis?
FrankyBoy
G5 bolts have 3 lines on their head, G8s 6 lines. Standard size is 6" x 1/4" You may check the earlier vids I posted where I hold the bolt's head into the cam before the bend. Yes, cutting off is a good idea since bending stock usually varies from 5" to7". I would like to see you trying a G5. I'm sure you are ready to work with it also, considering your strength in the kink.
Jeff Parker
Ill do some more blue bending on tuesday, and if that goes well, Ill get some G5s and give them a try on thursday. I will be doing a strongman contest on May 7th, so I will have to stop bending anything hard about 3 weeks before that. I would think as long as I dont do anything more than a yellow and nothing at all a week before I should be ok. I just dont want to get injured and not be able to compete. I really have to work on my shoulders for the contest. there will be a viking press for reps with 225, and I am not quite there yet.
FrankyBoy
Nothing spectacular today. During a chat with Greg Amidon I mentioned my thumb index finger joint and he showed me another technique to grab the bar. I warmed up and went for a G8. It felt a bit unusual first but then the G8 gave up. Later I had a hard time to get the ends of that G8 so close that Greg was satisfied. Afterwards I prekinked a FBBC 5/16" x 7" bar ( 50 degrees approx) and crushed it down fairly easy. Next I failed on a 7,6mm x 178mm nail. These nails seem to be around the Red so I found a cheap alternative for the Reds.
Jeff Parker
You got a heck of a crush down on you franky!
FrankyBoy
Thanks! But even that crush down is very limited obviously. This morning I chatted with Martin Kotte about bending (what else). So I decided to cut a FBBC bar to 6" prekink it and give it a go. Thats some tough steel. I could barely move it a bit further. The prekink was 58 degrees and after my attempt it was 74 degrees, then it stalled there. Pic of fbbc 6" crush down attempt
Jeff Parker
Blue nail is no longer a problem. I took down 3 of them in under 10 minutes. First one took about 25 seconds, then took a 2 min break, second one took a little over 30 seconds, then took a 3 min break, and the last one took about 1:15. The crush down on the last one seemed impossible, but I got it done, along with a lot of red strain marks around my eyes and nose. I put more effort into that last one than almost anything I have ever done. Thursday to do list: Pull out red nail wrap red nail try to bend red nail cower in shame as I kink it so little you have to roll it on a table to see. FrankyBoy
Good job on the blues! (Not long ago I told you the same about some Yellows!) So yesterday was your 'Red-Day'? Everthing where it should be now? Actually I wanted to rest til tomorrow to go for my kinked Red again. Then a grip buddy gave me a new order: Try to chest crush a 8,8mm (=11/32") x 7" nail Whoa, thats inbetween the 5/16" FBBC and the 3/8" FBBC. I prekinked it to 66 degrees and had a hell of a fight with it. Couldn't get it under 2" though. It stalled at 66mm (~2 1/2"). If someone cares: 8,8mm x 180mm
Jeff Parker
I warmed up with a yellow before I tried the red, and my hand was hurting real bad. When I did the blues, I strained something in my right hand, and it still is bad. So... I didn't try the red. I will try it when my hand feels better. Thats a thick piece o metal you crushed down. You got pretty close to the 2 inches though!
FrankyBoy
A single full bend today: 7,6mm x 180mm PR I failed to bend my earlier kinked Red though. (Was at 10 degrees). Today my new order for volume bending arrived: 44lbs of nails.
FrankyBoy
Bad session yesterday. Warmup up with some easy nails up to the Yellow. Then went for some new PRs: G8 5.5" : just kinked FBBC 5/16" x 7" : nothing besides hurting fingers Next workout will be next saturday. FrankyBoy
Good session today! Warmup 3 x 6,0mm x 7" 1 x Yellow Workout 1 x 7,0mm x 7" 1 x 7,6mm x 7" 1 x 7,6mm x 6.5" 7,6 x 165mm 1 x 1/4" square x 7" THE SQUARE 1 x RED THE RED Since I have still a little flu there was not much left for the crush down during the Red Bend. Its a long time ago I had so much trouble to crush down a Red. Who cares. Mission completed!!
Jeff Parker
Congrats!!! I am going to watch the video on monday at school, they have a fast computer there, mine is really slow. You won the contest hands down!! My hand is still strained so I havent done any bending since my last post. I gotta ask, how does it feel???? FrankyBoy
Hope you heal very soon! Well it was an interesting bend. There was no question for me that I'll get a complete bend after I kinked it that far. I crushed down too many Reds to fail here. Then shortly after the 90 degrees point that stupid nail stalled and suddenly I had to fight with the bar. Never expected that. After showing the nail in the cam with shaking hands I turned off the cam and fell on my knees: blank screen. Took me a moment to stand up again but my hands kept shaking like stupid for about 5 minutes. So it wasn't just a bend this time it was a hard hard fight to get it down. But I won. So I'm more then pleased with it. Thanks for the challenge strongmantobe. I would probably never had gone for the Red without that challenge, not with these serious damages in my left arm/hand. If you check the vid you'll see how asymmetrical the bend looks. Thats due to my left arm. Actually I'm bending with my right and I'm just holding the nail with my left. I gotta ask, how does it feel???? ←
