Jeff Parker
Right now we are all right about at the same level, being able to kink a blue, so this should be a very fun and close race. I think with reading how the other guys are doing on the bends, it will give motivation to catch up if you are behind, or to go even harder if you have a small lead. Lets get ready to BEND! FrankyBoy
Not that I will have any chance to ever bend a Red DU but I must keep the pressure high on myself since bending is by far my weakest exercise. So I ordered today some Reds to see if I can do any harm to a prekinked Red. Well, to be honest lets see first, if I can perkink it anyhow! Well, I may ask Martin. Octogen
Hey don't count yourself out! there have been a number of people to take down reds DU!
Jeff Parker
I couldnt wait to start. yellow: took it down, but my hands hurt afterwards. This has been a bending problem for me. I am going to start bending several TT's a day to get my hands more conditioned. Thats all the bending I did today, if I start to fast, I'll be out of this comp in a couple days due to injury. FrankyBoy
My first little workout towards the Red. The neighbours childs wanted to know what I'm doing in my training sessions. So I got some nails and did a little presentation. 2x 5,5 x 160 2x 6,0 x 180 1 x Yellow Nail 2 x 7,0 x 210 Actually I wanted to bend only one of these but the older kid immediately said: "I keep this one!". Sigh. All bent double underhand. All but the first 7,0 nail were very easy. However each nail was finished in about 10secs.
Jeff Parker
FrankyBoy, although I love bending, I do not know a whole lot about it. Other than the yellow nail, I do not know what kind of nails you bent. Sorry. And, since you seem to know about steel more than I do, what kind of steel should I get that would simulate a yellow? I do not have many left, and don't want to use them all up. The yellow simulators could be nails, bolts, or rods that I cut. Whatever is cheapest is best. Thanks. sammyg
thats the length of the nail in millimetres i'm guessing.. i'll have a workout up soon by the way.
FrankyBoy
Yeah, those were mm. That means a 6.0 x 180 nail is ~1/4" x 7", the dimensions of the Yellow Nail. Its easier than a Yellow though. The 7.0 x 210 Nail is considerable harder than the Yellow one, but still far away from the Blue Nail (which is 1/4" x 6" or ~ 6.0 x 150mm) So my nails sorted in strengthwise are: 6.0 x 180 Yellow 7.0 x 210 Blue 7.6 x 230 I will shorten the 6.0 and 7.0 nails and train with them next: 6.0 x 150 (should be close to a Yellow) 7.0 x 180 (should be close to a Blue) Yeah, you should do some kind of volume bending with easier nails to condition your hands and wrists. I did bend those 6.0x180 every day, even during my gripper workouts. Now I'm using them only for a specialized warmup after some (30-50) reps on the bench. the swiss
Frankyboy I see you are using DU style. I have used this style for a while in the beginning of 2004, and got some pretty good results with it (bent a 230kg challenge bar). I urge you to get into it SLOWLY, as I stopped my progression by severely bruising both my hands with this style, and even now I can feel the pain coming back if I go hard on this style. The injury was located between my thumbs and indexes (near the base of the index), where the nail ends are set (there seems to be a tendon in there). So take it easy! I personnally find the O/U less stressful, but I guess it depends on the individual. Anyhow, good luck to all three of you! david
FrankyBoy
Thanks for the hint David. Well I'm using a quite thick bathroom towel for wrapping, so it feels like bending a fat bar. This helps avoiding any injuries near the thumbpad area though. Take care, you and Anja. Edited December 1, 2004 by FrankyBoy
FrankyBoy
Hand/Wrist Conditioning The goal was to kink 20 nails of the dimension 6,0mm x 180mm (as little under-Yellow) to at least 90 degrees. I didn't finish them since my kink is far worse than my chest crush. I bent the first 12 nails, all to about 80-100 degrees. Then I rested for about 30minutes. Then I kinked the last 8 nails. For the 19th nail I tried the DO techique. Well the nail went down but not as easy as a nail of this dimension should go down. Now my wrists are numb and the skin in my palms burns like hell. Good session. Edited December 5, 2004 by FrankyBoy
FrankyBoy
My Red Nails arrived. Hmm, those are the good news. I prekinked one to about 90 degrees which wasn't that easy. Then I did several attempts to chest crush it. Nice isometrical exercises. Edited December 6, 2004 by FrankyBoy
Jeff Parker
took my nails to my aikido class at school to show some of the guys. took down a whole bunch of TT's. Even though they are really easy, they are the most impressive to show people bending cause they go down in a second. went up the Ironmind ladder 1xwhite 1xgreen 1xyellow 1xblue kinked I am going to start doing some sledge levering to mimick the bending motion. Jeff Parker
Did a whole lot of levering. 20" PVC with a 5 pound weight on the end, and 2 collars that weigh a little over a pound a piece. I could do about 10 rotations from side to side with each hand. 3 sets of these. Then did some from front to back, which was really easy. I could do about 20 with each wrist. I plan on doing actual bending on thursday. Hopefully these will help. Sammyg, how are things going on your end? Looks like frankyboy is rolling along pretty well. Jeff Parker
Took the nails to class again, everyone really enjoys it whitex1 greenx1 TTx1 yellowx1 blue kinked it more than I ever had before, I am going to have a lot of kinked blues! TTx1 yellowx1 The yellows are going down like a stick of butter on a hot day! I switched my style about a week ago and forgot to mention it. I now start the bend with my right hand on top, and my left hand below it. I can kink nails much eaiser this way. Then, I just DO crush it down. FrankyBoy
How far can you kink the blue? I have to work seriously on my kink, thats by far the worst part of my bending. I hope that the 60Ds and G5 bolts I ordered lately will arrive soon.
FrankyBoy
Good day. I decided to use the IM pads and they're working quite well. Best bends so far were: 7,0 x 210 and IM Blue. I started with 2 6,0 x 150 nails and they were very very easy. So I decided to work with harder shorter nails: 1x7,0 x 195 mm: very fast bend PR 1x7,0 x 185mm : difficult but quite fast too (<20secs) PR 0x7x0 x 170mm : Kinked it, tried 3 times to crush down the beast, but no way 1xIM Blue 5 3/4" (145mm): easy bend PR 1xIM Blue 5 1/2 (138mm) PR Motivated by these two new PBs I took the prekinked 7.0 x 170mm again. I could kink it a bit further then it went down quite easily. 1x7.0 x 170mm PR 1xIM Blue 5 1/4 (133mm) : tough bend, very hard to finish, but got it PR
Jeff Parker
FrankyBoy, I can kink the blue to about 45 degrees. I am going to try and finish off the kinked blues that I have to work on my crush.
FrankyBoy
PRs Today I met Jens Mayer (ouzo12) a grip buddy from germany and did a severe bending session (about 4 hours). I bent many many nails. Best Bends: 2xIM-Blue: even the kink is quite easy now, crush down in about 3-5 secs 1x7,0x160mm: < 30secs PR 1xIM-Red prekinked to about 88 degrees : Boy that one was tough: A 15 minutes battle with long rests. About 15 attempts total, but finally got it to nearly 2": http://www.gripboard.com/index.php?act=mod...cmd=si&img=1500
