David Horne
1. Title: David "Iron Grip" Horne versus "Napalm" Jedd Johnson Inch Dumbell Hold 2. From 27th Nov 2004 - 27th Feb 2005. 3. All our lifts will be posted here, with links to photos and videos as they are done. 4. Rules, pick it up with a thumbless grip and hold for time. Timing starts from the dumbell leaving the floor till either it comes out of the hand or you put it down. Best to not fully stand up to stop any part of the dumbell touching the legs. Well the other day was the first time I held the Inch (for 3 secs) as I haven't used it for ages, and neither has Jedd. I really appreciate Jedd's effort, and am glad he took up the challenge. As I've said to him he will be one of the dominant forces in the grip scene next year! This should be real fun. David
FrankyBoy
David, I'm glad you found such a powerful opponent. Who else could take this challenge against you? Best of luck to both of you. Thats going to be really interesting. A challenge at the top level.

David Horne
1st Session Cranked the music up loud and got on! Inch Holds (thumbless) R/H 3 secs/ 4 secs/ then just a lift. L/H 3 attempts just off the floor. Then holds on the bathroom scales, and other training. So with 3 months to go, it would be nice to increase at maybe a second a week, but who knows. I looked in my old training books and my best in the past was a 9 secs hold, so when I get past this it will be a pb. I'll probably do 2 of these a week, but I think that the other on Thursday may be hindered by Tuesday nights armwrestling training. All for now, David
mobsterone
As an added incentive I think I got 7 seconds with my right hand at the GGC AFTER all the other events, plus hub lifting (just) and Blob lifting (I also had a go at 6 x 10 but it was too wide). David Horne
Very good Steve. As one who is very good with thick bars, can you lift and hold the Inch with a thumbless grip? A different strength is needed then. I've often wondered about this. Large strong hands definitely suit an ordinary grip, and strong fingers and wrist suit a thumbless grip. Looking forward to the info. David
mobsterone
I think I could do it but have never tried?? Sorry.

neilkaz
Holding that "thing" is hard enough (I only hope that I can get strong enough to do it someday), but holding it thumbless is mind bogging ! Awesome job and this will be really fun to follow over the next few weeks. ..neilkaz..
OldGuy
My son and myself have lifted far more on 2 3/8'' and 3'' thickbars using the thumbless scoop than we have the conventional way.
gazza
Steve At the 2002 brits didn,t you lift 90k or there abouts thumbless on a 3.5" dbell,i know it was revolving, but probably not to far off the inch. you reckon you could train to do the millenium thumbless
David Horne
2nd Session Inch Holds (thumbless) R/H 5 secs/ then just a deadlift. L/H 2 attempts just off the floor. Then other training. I was suprised that I did ok today since I'm still recovering from tuesday nights armwrestling. David

FrankyBoy
One question David: How do you hold the Inch during the lift: Globes parallel to the legs or inch between the legs?

FrankyBoy
Thanx, David. Now I'm wondering how Jedd is doing the lift. If I remember correctly he lifted the inch (with thumb) in front of him, with the palm showing away from the body.
David Horne
I'm sure he'll have a play and find what position he favours. David
