FrankyBoy
Its the original LGC vbar replica. 1" in diameter 24" in height. If you like you may order that replica from Arne Persson. Arne Edited October 15, 2004 by FrankyBoy

FrankyBoy
Thanks Josh. Actually I wanted to lift more than 130kg on the vbar at the germans to enter the top-20 list Mikael provided. And now? Now I got the information that the organizer of the contest will use an own bar.

bencrush
Franky, good job on the AA deadlift. When you can get your knees locked out, you'll have a 16.5 pound PR! Right on man. It's just around the corner. Do you pull conventional or sumo? I am a poor puller either way, but can pull about 40 pounds more (double overhand) on a 2" bar using the sumo pull. It might work for you. It seems to put the hands into a slightly better position for exerting maximum force on a 2" bar.

It definitely easier to get the full deadlift but I'm having more problems in the first phase of the lift. Keeping balance is more difficult of course. How narrow is your grip when doing the sumo style?
Mikael Siversson
10-15-04Vertical Bar Day All weights excluding the bar (~2.5kg) Well done with the v-bar. It does not quite weigh 2.5k though. Its 1.5-1.6kg.
FrankyBoy
Thanks Mikael. Yep, the bar weighs 1.5 kg, just checked it. I always assumed its 2.5kg, don't know why.
Mikael Siversson
If they do decide to use the LGC v-bar in the German championship after all, try to make sure they use calibrated plates. I will not add any v-bar results to the list unless calibrated weights are used in competitions where a LGC replica was used. From my own experience, using anything but competition plates (e.g. Eleiko etc.) or calibrated weights could easily mean that 140k on the bar could be anything from 135-145k. Mikael Siversson
Arne and myself calibrated the weights (with a 1.2'' hole) used for the LGC and Europeans against Eleiko competition plates (using a high quality scale).
FrankyBoy
Agreed. I still try to convince the organizer to use the LGC bar. Little hope though. bencrush
Franky, I use a grip width of approximately 8-10 inches when I sumo deadlift, double overhand on a thick bar. Closer is fine as well. I've seen a picture of someone with their hands touching in the middle of a bar. Seemed to work for them. I don't remember where I saw the picture, but they had a nice bit of weight on the bar. FrankyBoy
10-19-04 Only a light training today since I'll meet Thomas Becker and Erik Franz again this weekend for a last show-down before the contest. I did two sessions because I felt quite sick in the first one. Got 5l of cider from a friend yesterday. That says it all. Couldn't lift 70kg lefty and had tremendous trouble to get 75 righty. Some hours later I did my second session. Much better without alcohol in the blood. Left: 70kg Right: 80kg Thats ok.

FrankyBoy
10-23-04 Last training before the germans this saturday with Thomas Becker and Erik Franz, first and second of the germans last year. Top Lifts were: RT 193lbs (Thomas without the weight of the handle and loading pin) IM Pinch Grip Block 55lbs (Thomas and me) SH: 17secs with a #3 and 5.5lbs (me) A.A: 320lbs (Thomas) Wooden Pinch Block (70mm): 83lbs (Thomas and me) Clay Rolling Handle: 149lbs (Thomas, without the weight of the handle) VBar: ~250lbs (me, last event hands very sore) Erik had a very good attempt on my MM1 replica: <1/8". I wasn't in a top condition yesterday because I already trained on friday with Straphholds, RT and Apollons Axle. Now a full week rest and the games may begin. 14 competitors will participate. I'm already very excited before my very first competition.

FrankyBoy
Today was the contest. About 5-6 hours of pure fun. I took second place with winning the grippers and the vbar events. Apollons Axle: 145kg (320lbs). I'm very very satisfied. This log will end here. I'll focus now on my match again bencrush getting the GM closed no-set. Thanks guys. bencrush
Congrats Franky!!! What gripper did you close? And how much on the V-Bar? Your AA went through the roof. Was the AA conventional or sumo?
FrankyBoy
Thanks Ben, the 2nd event was a Straphold with a hard #2 (topped many RB210s) and 2.5kg for time on the IM narrow strap. I got 37secs the 2nd and 3rd 26 secs. My vbar result was ridiculous low, but that wasn't my fault. I only had to lift 115kg to win the event. The 2nd in this event lifted 110kg, a weight which I acutally wanted to use as start weight for both hands! I tought I would have to live about 125kg+ to win. My A.A. lift was conventional. I didn't dare to switch technique that short before the contest but I will test the sumo style. The 145kg was my 3rd (and therefore last) attempt and was very safe. Congrats Franky!!!
