I hope someone lends Carl a light and narrow CoC 4 to let him shock the world again.

Updated.

Carl owns all the records, and is number one across the board. The undisputed GOAT.

Finally in the 200lb club!! An absolute massive PR from nowhere!! @CannonThese Hulk grippers may be the best bridge gripper ever. The long handles really help with leverage and the handles being the same diameter as a Robert Baraban make them so comfortable in my hand. Not only did i get the handles to touch but was tough enough to hold it there as well for a dominant close. Very happy about this achievement! Ill be parallel setting 4’s in no time!

Solid close! Handles were clearly touching and 186 is no joke - that was awesome!

Table No Set (TNS)

9. Sergey Vasilenko - Heavy Grips

A question regarding the rules for TNS.

In the video linked, he places the gripper inn his palm with the other hand, but he doesn’t “set” the gripper by using the off hand to force the handles closer.

Is it a total/table no set when the closer uses his off hand for the initial placement?

I read an old thread a while back were it was stated that TNS is short for table no set, because one had to pick the gripper up from a surface with just one hand and then close it without any involvement from the off hand.

Could someone enlighten me regarding the rules for TNS closing?

In my understanding, a TNS close must be restricted to one hand only.

I am by no means an expert or a veteran gripster, but I think our sport will benefit, if we handle the set the same way as the close, i.e. handles touch = close, handles don’t touch = no close.
For the set that would mean: card bends in CCS attempt = no close, TNS with anything else than one hand = no close, dubious parallel set = no close.
So I’d say the definition you referenced is correct 👍

My understanding is that the definition is not quite that stringent. In the video you referenced, he only uses his off hand to place the gripper into his hand, but he does not apply setting force. He even re-adjusts his fingers slightly before making the attempt, showing that the gripper is not yet under tension. This qualifies as a TNS.

With regard to the name, it did originate as “Table No Set,” but people at the time also referred to it to mean “Total No Set.” I remember an old thread discussing it where people were joking “But I don’t have a table in my gym, so I can’t do these!”

Agree. I’ll try and find that thread. There were also people who insisted the table added something. Total No Set is a better description.

This is what that thread was about. In TNS, you should not place the gripper with your off hand. That was the argument for the literal table because it guaranteed the off hand didn’t do anything. But I think many agreed that however the gripper arrives in the gripping hand, as long as it was handled loosely, dangled by the coil, held by one handle, anything that confirmed it was totally out of position is acceptable.

If someone carefully laid the gripper in their flat, open palm and proceeded to “no set” then that is not TNS in my opinion.
