But if I can’t work up to about a 700 pound lockout with it I’ll just train with straps and save mixed grip for meets. My back just feels so much better with both hands pronated. Better both strength and health-wise.

Reape was saying to another guy recently for older guys; Box squats, double overhand hooked or strapped pulls, board pressing, and support gear should be used for the bulk of training.

Yeah, definitely knee sleeves and double overhand for me. Things definitely start to get trickier as you age.

It's the mileage, not the year of the car! I think we're about the same age aren't we Eric? I turn 51 November 17.

EricMilfeld
Deadlift (off 2” plates) 165x5 (double overhand) 165x5 (hook grip) Hook Grip Lockouts 275x1 295x1 (5 second hold) I tried some Average Broz tape for my thumbs today - best decision ever. Made all the difference in terms of being able to hook grip without tearing up my thumbs or the tape tearing up and sliding around. If anyone wants to try hook grip I’d recommend you first buy this tape. Last time I tried to adapt to hook I tore a chunk of skin off my thumb doing a few reps with 450. Now it seems like I will be able to use it at Raw Nationals for whatever weight my back can handle. Pretty dang happy. Currently my mixed grip feels more secure, as I’ve got shortish thick fingers, but there’s no comparison with how much better my lower back feels with a double pronated grip Chins 119.5x10 PR!
