We went to the county fair today and walked by an Army National Guard pull-up contest.  My wife wanted me to try it, which I gave a brief thought to, and turned it down.  It was hot and I really didn't want to embarrass myself.  The contest indicated that if you could do 5 dead-hang pull-ups, you'd get a t-shirt, and if you made the leader board, and were in the #1 spot at the end-of-the-day, you'd win a gear bag.

We ended up walking by it again about an hour later and I was talked in to trying.  My best-ever consecutive pull ups was several times at 10 reps.  That was when I was 190-195 though, and I am closer to 215 now.  There were 3 people tied in first with 11 reps and a bunch of people with 10.  I was hoping to get at least 5, but when I started going, I felt pretty strong and kept banging them out right up to the 12th rep and first place.  At the time, it was about 4:00 and there was 1 hour left in the contest (going-on since 11 a.m.).  The guy told us to come back in an hour, but unfortunetly, my four-year old wasn't going to last any longer and we had to leave.  Not sure who ended up winning or if my score held up, but it was pretty cool to try it.

I made my first attempt at Steel Shredder 9, with the 1/4 x 5" Grade 5 bolt.  Definitely not what I was expecting.  It just melted in a few seconds.  Not even close to the trouble I was having with my similar dimension Grade 5 bolts in training.  I documented the attempt, but didn't bother submitting it due to the ease-of-bend.  The next attempt will either be a much shorter Grade 5 or a 12.9 bolt.

I made two attempts at Steel Shredder 9 today, both 12.9 bolts.  The 12.9 felt similar to a Grade 8 bolt.  Both went down pretty good with speed, with the 4.75" bent in about 20 seconds.  I made an attempt at a LP0 afterwards in thinner wraps, but my hands hurt too much to finish it on the crush.
