Saturday:

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class/practice

Class went well, didn't get subbed against the purple belt today! woo. Also, I'd like to mention that because of my grip, I was able to prevent myself from getting heel-hooked (a leg submission). The guy had my leg, but because I had his other wrist, he couldn't finish it, and I eventually got out. yay.

Rolling Thunder singles (up to 150)

I did these AFTER practice. Boy was that stupid. I couldn't get 150 with my right or 140 with my left.

I also went for a 4 mile jog this morning before this all ... which was not a good idea, either. haha I was tired for practice, but hey, I ate like a pig this week, so I need to get some extra cardio in.

Wrestling Takedown class/practice

It went from 1:00pm to 2:45pm. I shouldn't have gone to this today. My allergies started going crazy last night, and I kept waking up during the night with congestion and stuff. When morning came, I was all stopped up and hacking mucus up from my throat. I wasn't sick, but I had a major sinus thing going on. I'm doing better now, though. Thank you Dayquil.

I couldn't even get the 2 35lb plates off of the floor today. I locked out w/ a 35lb plate and a 25lb plate w/ my right hand, but couldn't lock out with it with my lefty.

Rolling Thunder singles (up to 150lbs)

Almost locked out 150lbs w/ my right hand, and almost locked out 145lbs w/ my lefty. I got 150 like 2 or 3 inches off of the ground like atleast 5 or 6 times, but just couldn't hold on long enough to lock out ... same thing with the 145lbs w/ my left hand.

Rolling Thunder timed holds and wirst rotations (w/ 125lbs)

Just to practice controlling someone's wrists, I used a lighter weight and then tried turning my palm (while holding onto the RT with 125lbs) inside towards my body and then I'd rotate my palm outward away from my body. This was very hard to do ... esp. with 125lbs on the Rolling Thunder after doing like an hour of RT singles. I figured this would be good training for controlling someone's wrists as they are trying to twist out of my grip (by rotating their thumb outwards) in wrestling or bjj.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class/practice

Class went well. We worked on omoplatas and triangles and their different setups. Got my first guillotine choke on somebody, too. I got it on a wrestler (surprise, surprise) who put his head on the side as he tried to take me down. He was a small guy, though. Either way, I'm happy I finally got a gillotine choke on someone. The main reason why I haven't gotten it before is ... well, I usually don't go for them ... but my coach yelled 'guiillotine' and I went for it and whamo!

Tuesday:

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class/practice

Class was good. We worked on escapes from north/south position and some reversals/sweeps. Also, I submitted my first 220lb + guy today. His name is Haigan, and he is a real big dude, real nice, too. I went for an armbar but to no avail and then I got him kinda in a triangle, but his shoulders were so big and my legs are so short that I couldn't get a good lock with my legs, and as I was trying to triangle choke him, the pressure on my ankle was too much, so I had to let go. He eventually got side-control for a few minutes but couldn't work anything ... he was trying for some keylock but couldn't get me. Then finally I was able to get out from underneath him, eventually was able to take him down, and then keylocked him. I didn't want to go for a keylock, because that is what I always used to do and I want to work different subs, but I got desperate and we were both so tired .... Then I went up against one of my buds who like 5 or 10lbs lighter than me and we rolled for about 10 - 15 minutes. I submitted him in a sweet armbar, so I was happy about that!

Joints and body were sore from lifting yesterday ... but my cardio was surprisingly good today. Got a big day in school tomorrow. Reviews for exams and I am receiving a couple of achievment awards in school for my German and Spanish classes. I have to be at work at 6am tomorrow morning, though, so I better get to bed!

Thanks, LiftingKid! Bjj is going great. I've been learning a lot, I am getting stronger and getting better endurance, getting new submissions, and also getting swelling in my ears, yay!, haha. I actually went for my first toe-hold today ... only to realize that I figure-foured it with his toes pointing away from his body rather than inwards, so that didn't work too well, ha! I'll get it next week hopefully ... I find that it is easy to transition from an armbar attmept that has gone wrong, to a toe hold ... or even a kneebar for that matter. I think there is a competition in June or July ... hopefully I'll be in town for it, because I'll be doing some traveling during the summer .... What has been going on with you???

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class/practice

Class went well. We worked on some sweeps. Live matches went ok. I got triangle-choked twice by a guy with a lot of experience ... didn't keep my posture. Actually, the second time I got triangle-choke by him, I actually kinda slammed him and got out (but I didn't slam him hard at all, just enough to get out) ... and I stopped to see if he was ok ... yeah, that was dumb, he put me in it again and choked me. So I won't be checking on him anymore if a slam him, ha. Then I went up against a purple belt, and I did NOT get subbed, yay. He totally beat my positionally, though. Then I went up against another fellow whitebelt of mine and got a rear-naked choke and a kimura (from my guard) on him. Didn't get subbed either. I went for a toe hold on him, but it didn't work out (see reply above to LiftingKid), haha. Cardio felt GREAT, actually. I have wrestling takedown class tomorrow.

Wrestling takedown practice

Well, practice was ... interesting. After working on some different takedowns and throws for about an hour, we had live matches for about 40 minutes. One drill we did was where everybody got in a line, and one person got in the center of the mat, and that person in the center would be "king of the mat" until he got beat. So we'd just go at it to try to get a takedown. Well, there were two very big dudes there. One was a collegiate wrestler who was 6'4", 270lbs, very low bodyfat, and had over 20 inch arms. yeah. Then there was another guy who was about 5'10", but he weighed 320lbs, and he was very quick actually. I had to go up against both of them. The huge collegiate wrestler guy with huge arms and shoulders beat everybody, including me. He was extremely quick. We were all in awe. But, I eventually went against the 320lb guy who everybody was losing against (except for the other huge dude), and ... I beat him! woo! I somehow got an inside trip on him and the mammoth went down. It was pretty funny. So now I can say I have officially taken down a 320lb man @ 155lb bodyweight. We all had a good laugh. Then we went in groups of two's and did live matches. I did well against the highschool state 189lb Greco-Roman champion, actually. It's almost like I've got his number or something. I got him down like 10 times, and he only got me down 2 times. I also beat another high school wrestling wiz who I usually lose against, but I got him this time.

Overall, though, I was very unhappy with my shot. The only reason I got those two high school champs down was because I have a good sprawl and I am stronger than they are. There is nothing wrong with having those advantages, but the thing is, every time I shot on them, I got stuffed, so my shot needs work. I keep going to low, keeping my head down and not keeping my posture when going for double and single legs, and since I'm a short guy, it is that much easier for my opponent to KEEP me down there since my posture/back is bent and my head is down. In a nutshell, I need A LOT of work on my shot.

I will be leaving for London, England tomorrow and will be traveling around England (and also to Paris, and then to Arizona) with some brothers and sisters of the church for the next 2 and a half weeks. I ran 4 miles today. I ran the first 2 miles to go see my dog (who lives at my mom's friend's house because our backyard is way too small for a big dog like him), then I played with Willie (my dog) for a while, and then I ran 2 miles back home.

I have a lot of incentive to complete each 2 miles as fast as possible. The first 2, because I want to see Willie so bad and pet him and play with him ... and then the last 2, because I want to get home as soon as possible so I can go take a shower and get all of Willie's hair and stinkiness off of me! haha

:D:D:D I know, I know ...

Thanks on the RT! Actually, today in the gym, this big tall guy walked over to me and asked what I was doing, so I explained to him what the rolling thunder was and the purpose of it. Meanwhile, I've got 160lbs on the RT, and he goes, "Can I try it?", and I was like, "Be my guest.", and he just walks right up to it and picks up the 160 like it was nothing, and I was like, " ... " .... It's good to be humbled every now n' then, haha. He was a pretty strong guy, anyways, doing reps with 225 on incline bench, and he had really big hands, too, which obviously help in thickbar stuff. :)

Thursday:

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class/practice (11:00am - 12:45pm)

Today went very well. We practiced a certain roll where we trap the opponents head and leg together, roll them over, and slip into side-control or take their back and go for a number of submission like RNC or arm-bar.

The live matches went well, too. I went up against another fellow whitebelt who trains in muy-tai (spelling?) and bjj. I was able to get him in a triangle choke, two key-locks, one rear-naked choke, and a gi choke. I did not get submitted. woo.

The next guy I went up against was a big blue belt. The first half of the match was me being too aggressive and not being able to catch him in anything, and becuase of my lack of defense, he was able to sweep me, and the last half of the match was basically me defending all of these different gi chokes he was trying to pull off. He was never able to submit me with any of those chokes, but the last half of the match I was definitely losing positionally ... and it is definitely no fun defending chokes for 5 minutes straight!!! haha

Then I went up against a 260lb dude who is a two stripe whitebelt (I'm a one striper). Actually, I totally owned this guy. I'm not sure how he became a two-stripe white belt, but we only went at it for like 4 or 5 minutes, and in that short period of time, I was able to arm-bar him twice and also get him in a key-lock. I'm not trying to brag at all ... I was just surprised at how easy it was to catch him those 3 times. I can definetly say that my thickbar training helped in controlling all of the three guys today! Thank you, Rolling Thunder and 2.5" FBBC Crusher!!! hehe

Hopefully I'll be able to make it to Saturday's class/practice ... that is, if I don't wuss out like a pansy!!!! Yeah, I'm talkin' to YOU, unseenbeat!!! haaaa :)

Reading all your BJJ posts it seems like your getting the better of most of the people there! Impressive stuff :rock . How come your not a higher belt yet? you seem capable of it. What do you actually have to do to go up a belt?
