strapholds and overcrushes probably work the close portion the most.

what's the best technique for improving your closing of the last inch or so of the gripper?

Make sure your hand position on the gripper is consistent and for your particular hand the sweet spot.

Practice makes perfect.

This is something often taken for granted in closing grippers.

The last inch?

Well I'm that far away from closing my #4. So any tips are highly appreciated here. :tongue

But seriously:

You should aim for an intermediate gripper first before thinking about closing an gripper that hard. For example: If you are currently aiming for a #3, a Super Master might be a good intermediate.

Your gripper is good for doing negatives with it: Set is a good as you can and then close it further by pressing the gripper against your tigh or leg. You don't need to close it completely, close it just a bit further than your normal positive attempt.

Then release it from your tigh/leg but fight against the opening.
