Respectfully disagree on Julius’ style being harder. If it didn’t make his pressing easier he wouldn’t be doing it. Plus, he doesn’t do it nearly to that degree with lesser weight. Kirill demonstrated better control at 738 than any 700+ bencher ever has. It appeared that it wasn’t even a max, and that he likely could have doubled it in the same strict fashion.

but!… I do agree with you that it’s not on the athletes in this case. The refs get the ultimate say. I don’t feel that julius’ style is “cheating” necessarily.. it is sloppy tho.

I'm not saying Julius'style is harder, just that the judges make him pause longer due to his form. (i.e. his chest sag)

Kind of a shame Krill never went for more though. I feel like that might be a 'Russian' thing though since Andre Malanachev (I definitely spelled that wrong) always looked like he left some in the tank.

It may be due to how strict the Russians ref events. I’ve heard they were rough on a grip comp there.

That guy's insane! It's just weird he's never put up numbers close to what he's doing now in a contest. I hope he's not faking. (It doesn't look like he it but I'm just saying)  we haven't seen anyone go from geared lifting to taking the world record raw since Vlad did it with the squat when he did 500kg. (Now 525kg)

I haven’t looked into the guy closely, but have seen some of his lifts. It does appear he has a slew of people calling him fake. But most of that does seem to be based solely off the fact that he hasn’t done any official lifts to match his gym lifts.

As I said above, I haven’t taken a close look, but his stuff at a glance appears legit.

id love to see him nail a 700+ bench down in a meet just to be official, though. Once it’s official he goes down in history as one of less than 10 men or so who’ve done 700+. I damn sure would if I could.

I believe he is legit. People doubt him but its because he hasnt done a big contest. No brad castleberry about him. He seems to have solely focused on benching for the past few years and its took off.

We will find out soon as as its just been annouced yesterday that him and maddox have just signed up to do a head to head bench press battle contest at Iron Wars in january 2022.

That's gonna be insane! It would be nice to see 2 800+lb benches back to back! Just hoping they both stay healthy

Yes imagine that, Its possible that could happen. January is still quite far away so fingers crossed no injuries or anything from them.

I asked Kirill why didn't he went for more. He told me his goal was the break the WR and he did that. If he kept on training he could easily gone above 350 KG but he will out his body in so much risk. He said he wasn't healthy being that big, couldn't sleep well and and and. He said people wanted to see him get stronger and stronger while cheering him, but if something happened to him then the people will forget him and soon he will be something of the past and no one would remember him, instead talking about the current champion. He said his health meant to him more than what anyone else wanted. That seems to be his ideology.

Kirill should know that it’s likely he will never be forgotten. Even in the event he had pursued heavier weight and received a retirement injury, history will still list him as the guy that ANNIHILATED Spoto’s 722, with his near effortless 738 bench record. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind he had another 20lbs in him (minimum) had he kept going.

can’t say the same for the other official 700+ benchers before him. They all pretty much appeared to be at their peak, based off how the weight moved, and other factors such as years lifting, age, etc.

for kirill to comeback now would be a mistake I think.. Julius is already too far ahead, is much younger, and likely has more years and room to grow for kirill to intelligently risk trying to catch him.

also, a lot of folks seem to overlook this.. but what makes kirill still equally as elite, or maybe even more so, as Julius is the fact that Kirill wasn’t even a bench specialist. He had and still does have a few standing records in his overall powerlifting exploits. Julius still has much work to do before he matches or bests kirill overall.

so to relate to those reading along, it would be a lot like a guy coming along in grip TNS’ing and certifying a #4, but still sort of getting his ass kicked in a well rounded grip comp by top performers. that’s what comparing Julius and Kirill is like. To be fair.

…that’s right now, tho.. Julius could change every bit of that in years to come.

What he means is, if he got injured then no one will be there for him. Like Ronnie Coleman (which he gave this example). So why bother to go more? That is his attitude. And yes, he was and still is super strong. He isn't AW specialist and yet he did beat SB. His grip is out of this world and in his prime, he could've easily be top 10 around the world. To be honest this threat made me so excited for the match between Daniel and Julius. If it wasn't for their match I would've flew Daniel to me and get him on camera to do bench and grip.

Ah I see. Yes, with that logic, he does make a good point. Not many lift at kirills level for years and walk away injury free and healthy. He is a blessed man, for sure. A big strong freak of nature. That knows when to hang his spurs up, no less!
btw isn’t he like 6f7 or 6f8? I tend to forget how massive he is at times. He’s basically Thor size. when watching him on video he sort of moves like a normal size proportional athletic guy. Albeit jacked! He doesn’t move like other guys his size do tho.. (which I suppose is a good thing?) so it is easy to forget how huge he is, even when seeing him collab on video.

I’m excited for the Daniel julius battle as well. As a handful of you know, bench is my favorite lift. So to see 2 titans battle it out at never before seen levels on the bench, live, and in my lifetime is so cool! To say the least.

I can say this- Daniel definitely looks the part! Not many walking around built quite like that. And his build is definitely one that suits a super heavy presser. That factor alone is one that suggests he’s definitely capable of the weights he claims.

If I remember correctly, Kirill is around 6'6" / 6'6". Very close to Hafthor.

I really wish Daniel is legit. I mean he is very big, he is Iranian which many are built big too. But it would be disappointing if he was a fraud.

But big doesn't always mean strong. Big can also be like a balloon. There is this Armwrestler called Mahdi Abdulvandi. Very strong guy and a food friend. According to him he is naturally between 140 to 150 KG and 175KG + with PEDs. He is like 6'4".He eats like a cow. Lota of veggies, rice, potatoes and bread a day with some meat. He did amazing in my grip temple too as a first timer. Forearms bigger than Brian Shaw. But he hasn't won anything major in AW. In fact, if I remember correctly he once had a very hard time against a 80 KG guy or lost to him. Another guy called Jaro who has bigger hands than Khaled by a tiny bit and is around 6'6" couldn't even beat me in thick bar which is my weakest grip. Heck he couldn't even lift my 125 fbbc inch.

My point? I hope Daniel is legit and not just a big guy with big mouth. Being that strong will definitely make it very interesting to see the rivalry between his and Julius.
