Cleaning Grippers

Recently, by chance at the supermarket, I found a cleanser formulated for aluminum. It is called CAMEO and comes in powder form. It costs a little more than a dollar. With it you can easily make your grippers sparkling clean and shiny. The knurling also feels as sharp as new.

I used to use Comet, but this new stuff I found is a lot better. You cover the handles with a paste made from hot water and the cameo cleanser, leave it for a while and then remove it using hot water and a toothbrush. On the Comet container it does say not to use on aluminum. Cameo is for aluminum and also stainless steel.

OldGuy... can you use it on the spring as well? I'm thinking the answer is yes.

I am thinking of trying out a product called Naval Jelly for aluminum.

I found it in the paint dept. of HomeDepot.

I have used the other Naval Jelly product for iron and steel corrosion

removal and it is fairly caustic..............

I did not read the NJ label for aluminum, did not have the time, but

will get a bottle tomorrow (Monday) and give it a try on a test gripper

what about aluminium wheel cleaner...........anyone tried it????

Did not try Aluminum wheel cleaner. However, I did try OldGuys' Cameo and

the Naval Jelly Aluminum Brightener.

Both performed well, I do not think one product has a superior edge over

the other one. It will be up to personal preference which one you want to

use.

The only thing I can say would lean me toward the Naval Jelly would be the

ease of application. You just brush it on after you wash the gripper in soapy

water and allow it to percolate for 5 mins, then wash it off and rub dry.

You will have shiny new looking grippers with both products though.

A more cautionary approach is needed in using Naval Jelly. You do not want

to get the product on your skin or any surface you do not want damaged..........

So a little common sense is required :)

The cameo cleanser works good. I let the gripper dry standing on it's spring, and

then when dry apply a small amount of 3 in 1 oil to the spring. Now to try the cameo on my aluminum truck wheels. Nothing else has worked!

OldGuy,

I read on the label Cameo should not be used on polished or mirror- finished

surfaces.......... Do your wheels fit this surface material?

Actually, it says "not intended for use"
