Rick Walker
After some hitting (yes I have shoulder pads and a helmet just for the sole reason of training my son!) We did some ladder drills then 3-40 yard dashes for time. His first run was 5.07 secs, second was 5.50, third clocked in at 4.96 seconds!! According to every chart I could find 6 seconds is elite for age 11 and 5 is elite for age 18. He hit a sub 5 at 11. I would say his time in the weight room and his speed and agility drills are paying off.
EricMilfeld
That's faster than my Toyota Yaris.
Rick Walker
Hahaha! Can you deadlift the back of that thing?? Im just an old meathead with no knowledge Eric. No way could I train an athlete to be fast and strong...thats ludicrous!

No way could I train an athlete to be fast and strong...thats ludicrous! If there was a suitable place to grab I would definitely try and deadlift my car. I remember an old picture of Mike Bridges "squatting" his car by shouldering the top of the door frame (tilting the car from the side). That sounds doable... Well if it's really true you have no coaching knowledge, perhaps your son just has super-duper genetics. But I have a hunch it's a bit of both.
Rick Walker
You need a frame to drive the front up onto like the strongman implement. Yes. But there is no way a powerlfter could train athletes Eric! I dont have enough letters after my name to be an effective coach...
EricMilfeld
Rick, the subject of "credentials" can elicit a hijacking rant from me. Kids being forced into a debt large enough to buy a five bedroom house because they were forced to take a dozen unnecessary courses over the course of several years at a university so they could acquire letters behind their name when the career that requires the letters could be learned in several months doing on-the-job-training... One big grotesque racket.

One big grotesque racket. If you would have told me that after high school I would have argued with you...now I have letters behind my name and enough debt to buy a 6 bedroom house, and there are high school graduates that work in my field that are just as capable (if not more) than me...I agree with every word you just wrote
Rick Walker
Indeed my good man. One of the biggest mistakes I made in life was going to college. I always tell people the story of a kid I went to school with. We both started at MDonalds when we were16. When we graduated i asked him if he was going to college. He said nope, he was riding out this McDonalds gig. I told him he was an idiot. Now, 20 years later he owns 3 and makes more money than he can spend. With no degree. And I still owe $35,000 in loans.
