eastNYgoon Posted February 2, 2015 Share Posted February 2, 2015 I'm running RRBT for a second time making a run at the CoC #3 and I'm mid Phase 3. I'm also about to start climbing again, mostly indoor bouldering until it gets warmer, on a regular basis, 3-5 x a week. Having climbed for 3 years seriously in the past and having already run RRBT I know the recovery demands of both and I just don't think they're compatible. climber511 Posted February 3, 2015 Share Posted February 3, 2015 I have not tried to combine both RRBT and climbing - but I have done more general grip sport training targeted towards grip competitions with a decrease in my climbing results every time. Climbing strength is simply different than what is needed for Grip Sport or pretty much any of grips individual components. The work we do in the gym (not indoor wall) helps in a very general sense and is (or can be ) quite good at making healthier forearms and hands - but for me at least has not had much direct carryover to climbing. I agree with you that the two are not compatible - or if they are, not in any way I have managed to find. My two cents - do one and THEN the other - not both at once. When I was climbing regularly I never felt any carryover from grippers/bending/pinch etc either. You're right, climbing requires a VERY unique type of strength/endurance. bwwm Posted February 9, 2015 Share Posted February 9, 2015 I don't stay on the wall as long as you guys do, but in general, I would say whenever I'm able to get on a climbing wall, I see a boost in my hand strength for grippers and other things about a week later.
