Yesterday(wed.) I picked beans in my garden. Then later while mowing the grass, I moved my yoke to the far side of the yard. I haven’t had an opportunity to work up to using the yoke yet so it feels stupid heavy.

Thurs.

squat up to 280x5

bench up to 225x5

shrugs, wrist work

i dug through a crate of old grip stuff. I forgot I had quite a few items.

Thurs.

squat up to 260x5

bench up to 205x5

shrugs

some grip work to dust off the cobwebs

2x60D, dc2 to 180 (all “nail” bending is DO in imps unless otherwise mentioned)

The comp. will be some time in December at the earliest and I won’t be competitive per say but it won’t hurt to be in a better position. I weigh approximately 235 freedom units now. I am going to shoot for 200 a few weeks before the comp. Here we go.

Sunday

squat 140 5x5

bench 140 5x5

pullups, oar, finger walks (8#), shot rotations

Im building back up again.

............

It’s  less than a week to the KK event. I haven’t trained any of the specific lifts and I don’t think I have ever lifted any of the implements. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, “Are you crazy? Why compete?”, “Why would you waste your/everybody’s time?”, “Awesome, Bro. Somebody’s gotta place last.”, etc..

I trained for grip comps before, intensely.  I’ve never done well and it never mattered.  I don’t think I’ll do well this time either. But, this time the event is in my town, not 4 to 9 hours of drive time away, by grip competitors I do not know. How could I not go!?! I would go if only to change weights and cheer on the competitors. So i am excited for the event no matter how bad my lifts may be. It will be great to step on the platform against some old friends with some new friends I haven’t met yet.

See you there.

Sunday

am: PGH King Kong venue

crusher, pinch, and Finnish ball went as expected.  I was disappointed in jug. My body just shut down. I can’t remember the term for it but its where your nervous system inhibits one part of your body in order to protect another part. It felt like that. I was willing to make the sacrifice, my body was not.

Considering that I had trouble walking on Tuesday, it shouldn’t bother me, But it does.

pm:

bench 145 5x5

bw lunges 5x5

Because i needed to do more.

i listen to audiobooks and podcasts regularly.  I am currently re listening to “How to win friends and influence people” by Dale Carnegie because I could use some friends and because I don’t think I’ve been the best friend I could’ve been.

Well the milling machine sold before I could get there.  The hunt continues.

Thurs.

squat 155x5

bench 160x5

blockweights, shrugs, Rear laterals

Current book is “the Creative Act” by Rick Rueben

i am having trouble focusing on the message that is supposed to be communicated. It’s very Thich Nhat Hanh/Alan Watts. It’s ok. I’ve heard it before.

I’ve had Peter Pan come up a few times lately so i decided to add it to the reading list. There were wait lists on all 4 versions... weird.

Sun.

recumbent bike 20 min.

I have actually been pedaling this bike quite a bit but I think of it more as activity compared to a workout.

squat 145 5x5

bench 145 5x5

pullups, oar, shot rotations, finger walks, powerball, spike

i was digging through an old gym bag and came across by leg pad(towel) for non-horseshoe bending so why not bend a spike. All kinds of awkward.

i need to do more actual lifting.C06F10FB-ECF2-4210-8173-E4FBB8D276A4.thumb.jpeg.0dd0dd2f93222e526360e4154da11b4c.jpeg

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I missed a week of logs but not training. Nothing noteworthy happened anyway.

Thurs.

axle deadlifts up to 270 3x1

these felt solid and easy but weird as I have to learn to deadlift in a belt.

bench 165x5

axle shrugs

i made a 2” dumbbell handle and recorded the process. I have to finish editing and then I’ll put it on YouTube. I want to get back into making videos.

also, I downloaded Duolingo on my phone. I am going to try to learn Spanish.

this week’s book is “Around the world in 80 days” by Jules Verne

i have never read this before it strange

It’s a simple length of pipe with nuts welded into the ends. It’s 6” long because it was a leftover bit from another project.9B097088-3DFB-4225-A4CF-1957967DECF7.thumb.jpeg.6a3a168fc3b99cddcf2e33f527008573.jpeg

You did manage to lift 5000 more lbs than I did on Sunday. That's something.
