climber511
Looks like the 93s are going to be tough this year! How is Kody's shoulder doing?
kodyburns
Shoulder is improving Chris. Just not quick enough. Did find out I got a spur in my neck causing a pinched nerve in the trap region on the bad shoulder side. This has been adding plenty of unwanted discomfort. Still training consistently. Just havent been able to go as hard as I would like to. Still gonna make Nationals this year but only to help judge and bring some enthusiasm. Wish you were gonna be there. I was looking forward to picking your brain some more Edited May 19, 2014 by kodydelone

jvance
Very tough Chris, trying to get prepared... Set a very lofty goal of a 100lb improvement on my 3lift total..regardless of how I place, that is my #1 objective. Kody, yeah man that bar is a staple piece of equipment now! Chris James 700 lb rack pull DO reminds me what possibilities strong wrists unlock... Been modeling my training after his for thickbar - maybe one day ill have wrists of steel! jvance
i know i should have probably stayed away from thick bar but i did it anyways started off with barbell finger curls, felt great so i threw on the FGs and did thumbless underhand partial curls, up to 3 singles with 135 THAT felt great so i did some one hand rack pulls with the fats, up to 175, felt like a joke so i moved the bar into the other room and loaded it up... started off with thumbless DLs without the FGs.. worked up to 365, doing doubles... felt easy in my hands but heavy in the hams went down to 305 with the FGs on, almost missed that first single, then proceeded 315, 325, 340, 350 Highlighted 350 pull, 30lb PR from about 6 months ago:

jvance
Just need to work on my sledge choke, its pathetic! same here man, my worst area. Nice pinches. Thanks, turning weaknesses into strengths has been the core of my training philosophy. 5-25 2" bell snatches sets of 10 alternating hands; 65#, 75#, 85#, 95#. Last set twenty second runoff between doubles. Did a number of other bodyweight exercises but kept grip to a minimum today. Tomorrow ill be training with Kody; fine tuning my pinch and grippers before the big comp.

jvance
Deload week initiated... Hectic ass day, realtor stuff all morning. Took fat grips to work; 8x5 various pull-up variations alternating thumbless and regular overhand. Pull-up bars wide so FGs were about 3", also wearing about 25lbs of LE vest and gear. Nice little pump... Also finger walks and side levers with our breaching tools
jvance
Never let your contest goals trump your training goals. By overly focusing on competition, I not only set myself behind the curve, but I'm also lagging in my general training. Never again... Don't train to win, train to be the strongest.
