wojo Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I figured the Inch Dumbbell also deserved it's own "Race to" thread to motivate each other and share training advice. I recently decided to invest in my own Inch Replica and Sorinex Bosco Bell (currently loaded to 140lbs). Here's some of my better attempts with both bells from tonight's workout: 140lb. Bosco Bell w/5lb plates on the globes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1n7rqSIoaU Inch Replica Attempts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMlZ0jV3azQ I'm working on this feat twice a week and my goal is to lift the Inch by the end of the year. I hope you guys join me! 2 Quote John Wojciechowski, CSCS New Jersey, USA Owner of Metabolic Functional Fitness Author of Better Body Basics

Chez Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I want to join, but I don't have an inch and its way out of my budget right now. Good luck to anyone who joins in the race. 1 Quote "A lot of men train to be pretty, I train to be the strongest man in the world, then again I'm already pretty." -Magnus Samuelsson "You don't have to be fat to be strong!" - Svend Karlsen "I know it doesn't just come from playing with yourself" - Svend Karlsen talking to Magnus Samuelsson about closing the COC #4. barbe705 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I would guess the bosco with those 5's has to be really close to the inch. that's a very controlled lift. Quote Brent Barbe "The truth is often stupid." Bender Bending Rodriguez
Josh O'Dell Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I would like to join i have been thinking of making my own, I put a 3 inch pipe over one of my dumbells but it only holds 100lbs i do bent over rows with it alot. Does anyone no how to make one? or have the exact dimentions and weight? Quote
bwwm Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I have a Gracie (145# or so) that I can get a few inches on in a good day. Negatives/holds seem a lot easier than breaking it off the ground. 1 Quote Martin

The handle is black pipe and doesn't really take chalk that well...so it keeps you honest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_I2qdeqD39U Quote John Wojciechowski, CSCS New Jersey, USA Owner of Metabolic Functional Fitness Author of Better Body Basics
Josh O'Dell Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Nice! already have the weights so im gonna throw one together. Thanks 1 Quote

I'm only a short drive away! definitely gotta take you up on that soon. I was planning on concentrating on the RT for a couple months so hopefully that will help me get closer to the inch. Maybe if I really improve on the RT, I can give your inch a try in a couple months. Guest Squat More Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I only have a bosco bell loaded to 150, no inch replica, though in the future I do plan to get one when funds allow but I am in for lifting my bell with added weight and later heavier with melted down lead. 1 Quote
wojo Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 Here's some better Bosco attempts from tonight......140lb Bosco plus a 5lb plate on each globe and then 7.5lbs on each globe.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7EqdHyWcE4 Quote John Wojciechowski, CSCS New Jersey, USA Owner of Metabolic Functional Fitness Author of Better Body Basics
Stephen Ruby Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Strong lifting This is still a goal of mine so I"m in. I got about as close as you did at the end of my last contest and should have another chance in october for my next one. It will give me some more motivation to start training thickbar again. I just have rolling thunder to train thickbar + manus grips. Good luck to everyone hopefully we get several people lifting that beast in this thread. 1 Quote Height 6'8 Hand length from first wrist crease to top of middle finger 8.15 inches Hand width thumb to pinky 9.4 inches Fist size around 11.5 inches Wrist size 8.2 inches

With your size and strength already, it probably wouldn't surprise anyone if you were able to lift it right now while you were fresh and not after a grip comp when you were already spent. odin Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 John, it looks like you are just a good day away from a full lift. Have you tried lifting the DB with the handle in a different orientation? In my experience, it is harder to lift the DB the way you are doing it (like a barbell DL). 1 Quote Spoiler Bob Sundin 5'11 and 162 lbs. https://m.youtube.com/channel/UC7AZdUkf0aEDB3ET4UhU3Bg/videos
Guest Squat More Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I discussed that with John, Bob. He had a prior injury that he is being careful with, which is smart IMO. I think John will get a lift with the inch before I even get my back fully healed up. 1 Quote

He looks like he's poised to finish it off very soon. Quote Spoiler Bob Sundin 5'11 and 162 lbs. https://m.youtube.com/channel/UC7AZdUkf0aEDB3ET4UhU3Bg/videos
gerryg Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 If interested in the Inch replica, check out Jackals Gym.... http://www.jackalsgym.com/store.aspx?prod_id=JA-INCH Quote
Guest Squat More Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 It's out of stock at jackals gym, I contacted Jason Adamski before for a quote as there is a place in ND that I could have it shipped to but I just didn't have the $605 USD to spare. I may or may not try to get one in the near future, if I can find a friend to go on a road trip to MN, it'd be a done deal. Quote
Mephistopholes Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 I don't have am inch replca, but I've got one of those Holle dumbbells that ironmind use to make. If that's acceptable, I'm in, because I've been meaning to start training on that thing anyway. Haha. 1 Quote
bwwm Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Gracie hops: Gracie negatives: I think I need to do this more than 1x/week to get faster progress. 1 Quote Martin
Guest Squat More Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Well I contacted Jason A. from MN who makes the bells Jackals Gym was selling, paying him a sum of money to hold an inch replica for me, and I will pay the remainder when I have the extra cash, a buddy in Winnipeg will take me to Minnesota to pick it up when I can travel down south. Don't want to count my chickens before they've hatched but it seems I will be the proud owner of an Inch replica in a handful months, hopefully.Yussss! 2 Quote

If the pronated style you are using is preventing injury and you're making progress, there is no big hurry to finish off the Inch.
