Ccsing The #3 Training

I can close the #3 from a bit wider then parallel set but I can't CCS it yet. Just wondering what type of training I should do to be able to CCS the #3. Currently I do 2 warm ups sets and 3 working sets from a set just past parallel. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Personally, I'd train the entire range from open to close. There are a ton of things you can do. Here's a few things I've incorporated in the past and present:

TNS a 2.5 for reps

Practice CCS'ing a light gripper like a trainer or guide to gain the muscle memory and feel so you don't waste time or energy with the set

Fat bar training or block weight pinching helps me strengthen the hand from a wider position.

Train on closing heavier grippers, when you're around a #3.5 parallel set you should be good for a #3 CCS.

I think that's the story in a nutshell. You can vary the MMS work after a while with blocksets at several widths, and so on. Basically the same what I do.

I'm with gm1swm on his method. I had the same problem while training to close the #3 from a ccs distance.

I suggest you follow the same method he wrote down. I would also suggest you have something like the coc key that ironmind makes; you can really track the little movements you gain on certain grippers with that tiny tool.

Massey...another thing is to take a look at other people's training logs. Many of us are certified CoC closers and GHP and MM closers. Take a look at Chez, John McCarter, Tommy Jennings, Daniel Reinhard, and Juha Harju.

From those five alone, you will learn a lot!!

Be careful watching Tommy's bending videos though...easy way to hurt yourself by thinking you can do the same stuff!

Just sent you a pm. I would suggest you take gm1swm up on the offer of learning from the people he listed.

  • 2 months later...

Been doing the suggested workouts for a couple months now and can def tell I've gotten stronger been getting more reps and closer to mms a 3.5 but CCS the 3 is still eluding me once I set it and open it up to put the credit card the Handle slides to my thumb pad and is pretty much a TNS from there which I'm still pretty close at.

I have very large hands 9 inches long and 10.25 wide very large palm I know by Thickening my hands it should close the gap and make for a better set. I guess I should just train for a TNS and forget about the CCS

Killer work man! If the ccs closes are still hard, do the tns closes. Here's something that could help you out. Attempt to get 10 straight mms closes, then see if that will transfer over to your ccs attempts.

It takes some time to actually get the hang of those types of closes. Personally, it has been so long since I used them, I would have to work at getting them once again.

10 straight #3 mm closes then is the new goal thanks for the help

Before you actually do the 10 mm closes, test yourself out on the #3 maybe once a week and note how close you are each time.
