Cannon
Anything you can do to bulk up your thumb pad will help grippers. Also might help with setting for a couple reasons.
cemery
No. You should train both movements separately.

I haven't seen him in these parts for a while, but here are his words on the subject. http://web.archive.org/web/20080125113815/http://www.geocities.com/ltgodfrey/three.html

cemery
To echo what has been said on other threads, grippers require honing in on a technique. Practicing that technique over and over again works best. If there was one exercise that actually strengthens gripper power I think it would be thick bar training. Heh...I hope so (thick bar), since I just started with it.
gm1swm
When you do some pinch training does it help you improve on the grippers? I've been banging away on the Rolling Thunder. That movement alone has skyrocketed. Really stresses the thumb...plus, you get a bit of thick bar work as well. Hopefully, grippers will go up after I'm rested. Since I started training with block weights I think my gripper closes have gone up even though I haven't really been training grippers hard because of an injury. I would very literally crumple beneath that weight. Watching you rep sets with it was super impressive.
rico300zx
Thanks guys, I just really agree and totally believe in squats for hand strength. I don't know what it does but it works. I forgot the link from my last post. The cleans are at the end btw.
Guest Squat More
For most people, squats seem to stimulate and fire up the central nervous system more than any other compound lift, also considering that grip strength is strongly dependent on the CNS it makes sense that squats make the grip stronger.
