Emsquared
Who on the Grip Board here that can lift the Inch Replica, what are you doing on the Rolling Thunder and for those that can lift the Inch and have the Inch Adjustable, what are you doing on the Adjustable??? Just curious?? Matt Edited March 16, 2003 by Emsquared
OldGuy
Very very few people have an Inch replica. More have a loadable I would say.
Emsquared
I can understand that but I am just curious because just today I received my Inch Adjustable, and loaded it right up to 166lbs and lifted it above my knees, and I can only do 190 on the Rolling Thunder, so I wanted to know for the ones that have both the Inch and the adjustable which is harder and by how much. OldGuy
I would like to know that too. Wannagrip has both. What is your technique on the loadadle, do you lift the dumbbell up with both ends level and leaving the floor at the same time, or do you lift at an angle and brace your arm against the plates? How solid is your loadable. Do the plates and handle rotate at all?
Emsquared
I lift the Adjustable up with just one hand, rest my other hand on my leg, and both ends come off at the same time most of the time, but sometimes the back end comes off a little first the loadable is mostly tight with theweights on there, but there is a little roll in it, I will begetting my Thomas Inch Replica soon, I have a good feeling about it Matt
OldGuy
Have you tried loading up your handle to 172, the weight of the Inch replica?
Rick Walker
Next week I am ordering the Inch. I will let you all know then- Rick Walker
OldGuy
Rick, what have you lifted with an Inch adjustable?
mobsterone
I have, as some of you know, a 2.5 inch handle on which I practised for the Inch and the Millennium Dumbbell. I am currently using 286 pounds with a tilt and the plates braced against the forearm.
Tom Page
Does anyone know where can I buy an Inch adjustable? I looked at IM and Sorinex? Thanx
Roark
Tom, check out our sponsor- PDA. They have an Iron Horse Inch dumbell bar. We are using the term Inch adjustable, but the only way a handle can be compared to the Inch is if the plates do not revolve at all. At all. And if the handle height from the floor is the same distance. And the handle is not knurled. And the handle is only 4" wide, etc. Calling some bar an Inch adjustable because the handle diameter is the same as the original (2.38") or the replica (2.47"), is not enough, is it? Tom Page
Thank you Roark. I should have thought about PDA. I agree with everything you said about trying to compare the " adjustable" to the "replica". I am just looking for a wide grip dumbell handle I can bring to the gym to train with. Once again thanx! :stuart
Emsquared
I think it has nothing to do with trying to "Compare" the 2 items which is NOT what was said, what was said was for those who have Both!! the Adjustable(Loadable) and the Inch Replica and who can lift the Inch Replica, what are they doing on the Adjustable(Loadable) Edited March 16, 2003 by Emsquared
Bill Piche
I think it has nothing to do with trying to "Compare" the 2 items which is NOT what was said, what was said was for those who have Both!! the Adjustable(Loadable) and the Inch Replica and who can lift the Inch Replica, what are they doing on the Adjustable(Loadable) Well, looking at the short list in the Records forum, it's not likely the handful listed there have both. Bill Piche
Also, comparing the an adjustable to the real thing is like comparing apples to oranges. I have both by the way.
OldGuy
Interest in the Inch dumbbell continues to grow with both Rick Walker and emsquared buying or planning to buy a replica recently.
mobsterone
Joe, I'd let the original poster set the question and what he wanted by way of an answer. It wasn't Inch bragging you know, just a gripboard member being inquisative. Emsquared: I used my example as it was what allowed me to train to lift the Inch. Also, using Joe's 'Fairbar' formula and as proved by Oldguys recent efforts both a longer bar (more than 4 inches) and a thicker bar divided by Joe's formual allow anyone to workout what could be lifted on a 2 and 3/8ths x 4 inch bar/handle. Feel free to calculate what 286 lbs would equate to.
Rick Walker
Oldguy- I suck at thickbar! I am getting an Inch and a loadable one from PDA. Hey-if I want to lift the darn thing-I should have one to train on!! Its like owning a #4 Rick Walker
mobsterone
I am proof you don't. But shouldn't you have added 'hey I can afford one!' :P
Roark
Mobster, I was trying, for some of the newer members, to point out some differences. Sometimes when comparing items with similar names we forget that is the ONLY similarity. I did not mention Inch himself in the post, but so far as the member outlining his own question, your point is well taken. The first step is to confuse items, the next step is to confuse performance. OldGuy
Rick how you gonna train to lift the Inch replica if you cannot lift it yet? Joe the fairbar formula does not even require bars of different diameters. all you need is the hand size, the bar thickness and the weight lifted. Rick Walker
Same Way I use the #4 COC! I cant close it-but I still use it for training. Its simple-pick it up with two hands-let go with one hand and hang on for dear life. If it instantly drops-so be it. Atleast I will have the exact replica weight, size, ect. to train with. And-when the time comes and i have trained on the loadable to repectable weights-I wont have to wait to get access to one to see if I can lift it-it will be in my garage awaiting me, taunting me. Your fairbar idea covers this easily.
