2012 Michigan Grip Champs Log

Never too early to start training for a contest like the MGC. I plan on driving out with Josh Dale - like we did in 2007 and 2008 - and since Bob already put up the contest events there's no time like the present to start training. I need to get my TNS strength back to where it was in 2008 anyway. It's down quite a bit since then.

Just got a 159lb RB330N at the KC Qualifier II last week (thanks Scott!) and it was my short-term goal. My TNS strength lately has hovered around the 152lb range. Plus or minus maybe 5lbs depending on how my hands are feeling that day. Well today I got 2 solid closes on this RB330N. Here's the video.

This gripper (poundage-wise) should give me top 5 even at a pretty stacked contest. Or at least a 5-way tie for 5th, lol. My goal for the contest will be to TNS a narrow gripper with a poundage in the range of high 160s to low 170s.

You made that look mighty easy Ben, if your starting now then there is no telling what you'll be closing in the coming months! Great work ethic!

I will definitely post the events I plan on training for Brent. I won't be hitting any of the WSH legs this year. That's a shame because I think the Rim Lift especially would be one that I'd be extremely strong at with a little practice - due to some of my USAWA training. But I'll try to find a way to train it anyway for the MGC. I have a welder friend looking into designing something for me so I can train up. I'd like to be the first (or one of the few by that point) to pull 250lbs on the Rim Lift. Or I'll completely suck at it and have to eat a bunch of crow.:D It kind of depends also on whether it's featured as a "for reps" event or a "for max" event. I'll be training 2" vbar - at least infrequently to keep most of my strength while I work on my 19mm 2HP strength.
