I was reading on a site that when you pinch plates only your fingers and thumb should be touching the plate and not your palm at all, ive always done them with the palm touching and not just the fingers, which is the correct way?

I think the way you been pinch lifting is the way I pinch Grip and I think its the right way.All the videos on you tube dont say pinch grip with finger tips. The title usually reads pinching 2 35's and you see them engulging with the whole hand not the finger tips.Maybe I 'am wrong. But thats how I been pinching plates .Could I been wrong I dont think so.

You CAN pinch with just the fingers and thumb. Contests I've been to and records are for getting as much skin contact as possible though.

Why does one have to be right?

Either/Or Thinking will limit your potential

at nearly anything.

Give it some thought. It will change the way you look at

things. ;)

I agree with Mighty Joe....there doesn't have to be a set way to do it. Doing it these different ways will hit the grip differently. Having as much contact with the plates as possible will obviously let u use the most weight but it doesnt HAVE to be done like that.

This might depend on the shape of your hand too. It never occured to me to try and get more of my palm on the weights because my thumb web gets in the way. For example, in a 2x35s pinch, it's very uncomfortable for me to force my hand down on the weights until my palm touches.

I think it would depend if your training for a contest, then it would be best to research rules for a lift from that promoter then train in that style to get used to it.
